It's nice to see another Big 12 coach get this honor. Other former and current Big 12 coaches include Marsha Sharp, Ceal Berry, Joann Rutherford, Marion Washington, and Jody Conradt.

I'm also going to mention Amy Ruley just because I attend North Dakota State :)

Now in its 20th year, the Carol Eckman Award has recognized the following individuals in women's basketball:
Bonnie Henrickson, University of Kansas (2005)
Marsha Sharp, Texas Tech University (2003)
Dr. Joann Rutherford, University of Missouri (1996)
Ceal Barry, University of Colorado (1995)
Marian Washington, University of Kansas (1991)
Jody Conradt, University of Texas (1987)

=6 all time, with 4 coaching in the conference this season.

Now lets compare:
ACC = 1 all time (Kay Yow may step down soon)
SEC = 1 all time (Sue Gunter is retired)
Big 11 = 1 (Vivian Stringer at Iowa)
Big East = 0 unless you count Stringer at Rutgers but then the Big 11 is 0

You know we say what an incredible group of coaches are in the Big 12 and I think we refer to mostly the basketball part.

This award clearly shows that the Big 12 coaches are the most outstanding group when it comes to "exemplifing Eckman's spirit, integrity and character through sportsmanship, commitment to the student-athlete, honesty, ethical behavior, courage and dedication to purpose."

Congrats to Henrickson for the award and the Jayhawks for bringing her to the Big 12.
