KANSAS STATE NOTEBOOK: Wecker to be honored
The Kansas City Star
Kendra Wecker's No. 53 will join former Kansas State teammate Nicole Ohlde's No. 3 in the rafters of Bramlage Coliseum.
K-State announced Wednesday that Wecker's jersey will be retired following the Wildcats' final home game, Feb. 26 against Kansas. That will also be senior night for Wecker, Megan Mahoney, Laurie Koehn, Chelsea Domenico and Brie Madden.
K-State honored Ohlde after her final home game last season, as her jersey became the first in school history to be retired. This season, the men's program retired the numbers of Ernie Barrett (22), Jack Parr (33) and Bob Boozer (30).
Wecker needs 98 points and eight rebounds to pass Ohlde's school records in both categories; Ohlde's scoring mark of 2,241 points is also the Big 12 record. Wecker, a preseason first-team Associated Press All-American and preseason Big 12 player of the year, leads the league in scoring and rebounding. She has scored in double figures in 111 of her 119 career games and has 46 double-doubles.
Marysville (Kan.) High School retired Wecker's jersey in a ceremony on Jan. 14. Wecker had 2,305 points and 1,049 rebounds in high school.
