You're Getting Fired
(sung to the tune of "My Father's Eyes")
Playing out, the season's not done.
Then you find out, you got run.
Told before a real big game.
That you won't be, renewed again.
Seven tourney trips, three hundred wins.
NIT last year, but still you have sinned.
You see now with Sooners on the rise.
We have no choice Dick, sorry but you're getting fired
(sorry Dick, you're getting fired)
You're getting fired.
We had choice, you're getting fire
(sorry Dick, you're getting fired)
You're getting fired.
In Lawrence, nothing is fine.
KU again is in a bind.
Fourteen losses all in a row..
Has fans yelling that "Marian Must Go."
Where can you find, a reason to stay
She's no longer coaching, her kids just can't play.
Bit by bit, you see she tired
Been there too long. Sorry Marian, you're getting fired.
(Marian, you're getting fired)
You're getting fired.
We had choice, you're getting fired
(Marian, you're getting fired)
You're getting fired.
Don't worry, the talent's here.
Been tellin' that lie, for three years
Selling a team that's been blow away
I'm still waitin' for the talent to play.
Husker teams, that lay down and die.
You're the head coach and even you don't try.
Bit by bit, I realize.
You're just a salesman, I'm sorry Paul, YOU'RE GETTING FIRED!
(Sorry Paul, you're getting fired)
You're getting fired.
We had choice, you're getting fired
(Sorry Paul, you're getting fired)
You're getting fired.
You're getting fired
(Sorry Paul, you're getting fired)
You're getting fired.
We had choice, you're getting fired
(Sorry Paul, you're getting fired)
You're getting fired.
[repeat and fade out]
I said at the beginning of the year two Big 12 coaches would fired this year.
I didn't think Dick Halterman would have been.
Should Halterman having been relieved? Maybe, womens basketball is quickly becoming a "win today or else" proposition.
I have a problem with the way it was done. Dumping Halterman before the season was over in my mind was very bad form considering his service to Oklahoma State University.
The man won 329 games, mainly with teams that didn't have the stellar talent of the Kansases and Colorados in the days of the Big 8. Nonetheless, 7 NCAA tournament appearances.
Oklahoma State's again going down the primrose path that destroyed their football programs. So worried about what Oklahoma's doing, they make questionable moves to keep up.
Coach Halterman, in my opinion, never got the support for his program when Oklahoma State was good. Now that Oklahoma's getting all hype, OSU all of sudden wants to gear up and get serious, starting with dumping the coach who's been serious about it.
Some reward for pushing a team short on talent into the WNIT final four last year.
Note to Kamie Etheridge, or whomever takes the Kamikaze mission in Stillwater.
You are dealing with an athletic program in a hurry, but until they realize what it takes, you'll get the short end.
If they can run Dick Halterman, they can run you, too.
I hope Coach Halterman finds a new gig. I think he could end up at a mid-major or low major that's needs a new start and needs someone who has been around the block.
Coach, don't knock it. I know a former coach at Kansas State who went that route. He took a step "down" into the mid-majors for the next gig, and I have it on good authority that Dana Altman isn't griping one bit.
Now onto tonight's game.
Oklahoma State (13-13, 5-8) at Nebraska (14-12, 4-9)

Although this game will be ignored by much of the newly strong Big 12, there is still a lot to play for among the conferences second division.
The Enron Cup has been clinched by Kansas, but for Missouri, OSU, Nebraska, and Texas A&M, WNIT considerations are still very much play for all them. In the case of TAMU, a longshot NCAA tournament bid is looking more likely.
Oklahoma State was last Big 12 team playing at the end of last season, making a grand run to the WNIT semifinals, and could make another run with an undertalented, but workmanlike squad.
OKLAHOMA STATE: Nebraska South?
Oklahoma State is similar to Nebraska in that they win games at home against teams better than them, but can't seem to bring the game on the road. However, you can't discount a team that beats Kansas State, Texas Tech and Iowa State whether home or road. Nebraska is neither of those three teams.
The Cowgirls are strong inside. Sophomore Trisha Skibbe, the last-second hero of the Iowa State, has been quite stout in Big 12 play. She's averaging 17.2 point per game in the league this year, and backs it up with 7 rebounds per game. A Husker fan like me is very afraid of this type of production because the weakest link of the Nebraska team is interior play (and given the turmoil of the last 5 days, we don't know what shape the Huskers are in.)
Senior forward Tari Cummings also factors in. Fourteen points per game, six rebounds per in conference play.
The other forward spot had seen a few different faces. Senior Terrisha Osborn's drawn the last three starts (5.7 points per game, 3.5 rebound per game in conference play). Seniors Kara Faulk and Nikki Lawrence also enter the mix. Lawrence at times spells Skibbe in the post.
The guard spots have been by Party Central Committee most of the season. Junior Chantoya Hawkins floats between the quarterback and shooting guard spots. Hawkins is averaging 8 points and 3 rebounds per game in Big 12 play. Junior Shelby Hutchins was the starter at quarterback last season, this year she's been sharing time between the spots with Hawkins. Both guards have been plagued by turnover problem, but Hutchins has been especially vulnerable with 42 turnover vs. 25 assists in conference play.
The bench players are very young. 5 freshman or sophomores as reserves. The only non-upper class reserve is senior third center Jessica Bates.
As a team OSU is a solid defensive ballclub, the give up 67 points a game. In the last two games against high powered offensive teams, The Cowgirls held Texas Tech to 55, and Iowa State to 63 in consectutive wins.
What hurt Oklahoma State is the lack of perimeter offense. As a team they shoot 39%, including a 28% success rate from three range point range. OSU averages 61 points per game, that's hard to win with given the teams in this league that average as much as 75 to 80 a game.
WHAT NEBRASKA HAS TO DO TO WIN.
The Cowgirls are going to come out and try to intimidate the Huskers. They'll have to. The Huskers have better guards than Oklahoma State, BUT those same guards have had their cold snaps this season. The Oklahoma game saw Keasha Cannon, Shannon Howell and Jina Johansen firing blanks all day against OU's constant harassment.
1. Remember that efficient offensive game against Kansas State? DO THAT AGAIN!
Nebraska's offense went back to brain fade skittishness against Kansas and Oklahoma. We need to be patient, pick our spots than attack them. This will be a major test for Jina Johansen, because OSU will try to get in her face and chickenwing her a little. At points Keasha Cannon may have to take the 1 spot, but if Keasha has to play there the entire game, that limits Nebraska's response greatly.
The Huskers need to score points. If Nebraska scores less than 60, the Huskers lose.
2. Guards hit shots and penetrate.
Nebraska doesn't have an inside game as far as I'm concerned. Whenever you have important players getting suspended before a game, REGARDLESS of fault, regardless of situation, there will always be a certain distrust between player and coach.
A game plan routed around Jones and Robinette at this time is risky. We don't know if those two are going in the tank or will come to play. We don't know how much happened between Coach Sanderford and those players.
The guards have to set the tone and if the interior comes along for the ride all the better.
3. Get aggressive on the perimeter.
Hawkins and Hutchins are turnover machines. If you press them they will make mistakes. Get in their face, get in their heads. Again, remember Kansas State. Kill the roots (Laurie Koehn), the flower (Nicole Ohlde) dies.
Trisha Skibbe is the same type of fauna.
Nonetheless, This game bothers me, and wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska lost.
The suspensions of the last week worry me. Now, I don't know much of what happened, but based on the way the season has gone and what I've seen and heard throughout, I would make a guess that after the Kansas game, which was a difficult game where Nebraska seemed to not play to their game plan, things got said in the locker room or at practice.
The kids in question (Jones and Robinette) got upset, Paul retalitated and what you had was Robinette not suiting up and Jones not even making the trip to Norman.
That it happened right as the team is starting to gel. The Kansas State game was the best they've played. Even though the didn't play nearly as well against the Kansas, the team did win. This should have been a time of fine-tuning.
Given this, I have a feeling that certain individuals may have put themselves above the ballclub. This is the very thing that wrecked the team the last two years. Once again, it goes back to lack of leadership among the head coach and the team.
One indication it gives me is the Paul Sanderford is secure. He will most likely not be relieved of his command this year. Whether that is a mistake or not, that is the situation (Personally, I still believe its time for him to go, and he should take all players who are juniors this year with him except for Keasha Cannon).
Either way, we have a very physical ballgame. Nebraska's a better team than Oklahoma State talentwise, but Oklahoma State's cohesion is better.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska loses but I don't think they will. The game's in Lincoln and the Cowgirls don't travel very well.
