7 in the top 17?! That's just SICK. BU at #9 is the highest ranking ever, I believe. I guess the AP guys are determined to keep Purdue at #8 or higher, no matter what.
#9 vs #11 on Wednesday.

I'm not surprised about Baylor's SOS...look at the RPI ratings for their non-conference opponents...two NCAA teams from last season...with a best of 43 (Hawaii) and a worst of 307 (Sam Houston State) out of 321...ouch.
11/16 North Texas-52
11/17 Nevada-143
11/20 TEXAS ARLINGTON-203
11/25 DENVER-141
11/27 SAM HOUSTON-307
11/30 Oral Roberts-149
12/2 BOSTON-107
12/7 Hawaii-43
12/8 Illinois-Chicago-186
12/16 UCLA-184
12/20 ARKANSAS-LITTLE ROCK-252
12/29 AIR FORCE-247

Denver was the one that we expected to be a much tougher game, as well as UCLA when we scheduled them. Denver was in the NCAA's last year and UCLA had the PAC-10's leading scorer out for the year with an injury.
UNT is a very impressive 40-4 at home the last 4 years (although we played them at a neutral site) and Hawaii is notorious for being super tough at home. COmbine some of those non conference guys with THIS conference and your SOS comes out looking very respectable. Maybe Mulkey knew what she was doing after all. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Purdue won at least a share of the B10 Title last week, 3rd toughest Conference in the Nation, with a 21-4 record, SOS ranked 6, RPI 5, gracing the ESPN.com's WCBB front page for their achievement last night(LOL)! I guess you wanted Baylor to be ahead of them, why? Does Baylor have a better record? Better RPI(15)? better SOS (64)? http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Beating Michigan by a few is not what I consider a big achievement. Losing to Minnesota is also not a big achievement. After a Purdue loss, they don't move down. I just picked them at random, so don't get too offended.
Evidently, BU plays a tough game at #3 OU and beats top 15 Tech by 16 points and they felt BU should drop in the polls.
While the Big 10 might be the 3rd toughest conference in the nation, as I stated earlier, the Big 12 has an unforgiving SEVEN TEAMS in the top 17. That's the mark of a tough conference, my boiler friend http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

what's Louisiana Tech's reason???? http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
I question them or Stanford more than Purdue, at least Purdue plays in a conference that has merit this year.

Winning the B10 was the achievement I was talking about and not beating Michigan (19-10, rpi 36, SOS 25), Although beating Michigan 84-73 in Ann Arbor isn't as easy as you think. IMHO Michigan (preseason pick for the B10 title with Purdue) is alot like Texas Tech (Tech with a lot tougher schedule) this year, great talent, high expectations but for some unkown reasons they haven't been able to produce. OU with all the great seniors they have will be tough to beat, Unless you beat them (in Norman?) otherwise you still don't have a case against Purdue being ahead of you. We have played a tougher schedule ( with a lot less talent than last year) no bench at all and we still gave the B12 champ Oklahoma problems (They had to come from behind to win the game, tied with 2:09 left, after 8 different lead changes)and ended up losing it by 5 (80-75). I know Dales was mostly out the game because of Foul Trouble, but that's part of the game, she knows better--> she's a senior!

I learned my lesson. That'll teach me to pick on poor random Purdue on a Big 12 forum and try to get away with it! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif
Seriously, Purdue has a very good team. I was probably being a little overzealous about our ranking. No offense intended towards Purdue.

That was a good one Swok34. You shocked us in our own house us in 2000, after that game people started calling for Curry's head , little they knew in her second year she will lead Purdue back to the NCAA title game becoming the second Purdue Coach in row to accomplish that, and we have had great Coaches/Assisitants here (Seattle Storm's Lin Dunn, Duke's Gail Goestenkoers, Orlando Miracle's Carolyn Peck, Indiana Fever's Nell Fortner, Colorado St's Tom Collen)........OU beating us was one of the best thing that happened to us that year. After the beating, Kristy Curry went on a recruiting rampage and landed us the best Class in the Nation, Thank you OU! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I am not real familiar with how the RPIs are determined. It sounds like a bunch of scientific wild ass guessing to me. I prefer the old fashioned approach. Head to head competition. If a team like Baylor can beat Texas twice, and that same Texas team beat Tennessee in Tennessee, I feel good about Baylor's chances. It doesn't mean Baylor would automatically beat Tennessee, but it is a logical train of thought. The same goes with every team in the conference. We all know that teams are up and down on any given night. I am very happy that Baylor has held their ranking all season long. Their ranking early on was due to the fact that they were fairly successful last year and there are two tremendously talented seniors on the team and they are very well coached. The AP and Coaches recognized this from day one. These are good times for Baylor fans, I know I am enjoying the games.

It seems as though the pollsters are more confident in the abilities of Oklahoma than Baylor.

Swok, Purdue's Coach Kristy Curry is from Olla, La. and not Texas, but she was an assistant Coach at TAMU (1994-1996) among other places. Here's a link

Thanks for info, dingo......I know she seems to get her share of Texas recruits, and I seemed to recall she had a connection with Texas.
