View Full Version : OSU-ISU
8 minutes in. ISU has 6 points and 7 turnovers. OSU has sscored 12 straight to go up 16-6.
Welle has been sitting out with two fouls. Erica Junod scored her first points of the season on a pair of FT.
OSU 23, ISU 21 at the half. ISU is 1-8 on threes. ISU probably has almost 15 turnovers. ISU's defense has been looking good in the past few minutes at least.
ISU is lucky to be within 2.
5:30 left. OSU up 55-50. That's the largest lead by either team in quite a while.
The Big 12 is just insane this year. I get dizzy just thinking about it.

http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/eek.gif I would have never thunk it! OSU's playing with nothing to lose and everything to gain. Beating KSU, Tech and ISU at home is pretty impressive.
Good win for the Cowgals.

Some things I hated about this game:
Sloppy ball handling on our part. In the first half, we played the way we did during our 2-5 stretch. The second half was much better, but it would have been a much different game had we not gone eight minutes or whatever without scoring in the 1st. OSU's defense was good, but it wasn't something we should have had that much difficulty with.
We couldn't stop Skibbe (sp?). Angie got into foul trouble and then wouldn't go near her to get a stop. Would like to have seen us double team her and take our chances with their outside shooting more.
The officials not calling a lot of stuff in the paint. This has gone on all season and is ridiculous. Not the worst officiating I've seen this year by far, but not great either. Would like to know where in the rule book this year it says, "ok to foul ISU's Welle as hard as you like; no penalty will be called." Must've missed that somewhere.
Some dumb passing decisions made by ISU. Bremer made some really unsound decisions with the ball while trying to get it inside to Welle. She wasn't the only one, but it seemed like she had more than her fair share.
Did I mention ball handling in general?...
The fact that OSU decided to make last week the time they announce they would not be renewing Halterman's contract. It couldn't have waited until this coming week? I'm sure Tech fans would not have minded waiting for that news.
The camera angle at Gallagher-Iba is HORRIBLE. The view is so far away from (high above) the court that even I had problems telling which one of our players had the ball at times.
FoxSports showing stats, replays or wasting time in general while there was action taking place on the floor. There must've been six instances where they were blabbing on about something and they missed showing shots taken or rebounds, etc. Normally, this hasn't been a problem with their broadcasts that I've seen, but it was really annoying this time.
Anyway, that's my beef with this game. Back to square one for ISU. Got to find a way to stop losing to these lesser teams. This was our chance to make that run for the first round bye. I'm afraid that might not happen now. I'm so disappointed for our team that the game ended the way it did - especially after coming back from 12 down so early on. Just have to regroup and clobber Mizzou on Wednesday.
The one thing that bugged me more than anything else: ISU standing around for rebounds while OSU pounds the boards hard. ISU put on a very sorry rebounding display today.

What I noticed with OSU when they came to Lubbock was that they drive to paint uncontrollably and then draw contact and throw up a shot. It is really ridiculous if you ask me. I think it is just a coward way of getting offense and I hate when things like that happen. Tough loss for ISU. OSU though is no slack off. There's the Big XII for ya. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Hmm, guess I didn't really see a lot of that today, RaiderPower. I could go back and look at the tape, but I'm not in a big hurry to relive this game. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
But you are right about it being a cowardly offense. Play like you know how, don't just throw it up to try and get a foul. We're a better league than that and should play like it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....You can't get down 10-12 points, commit a lot of turnovers, and expect to come back and win in the Big 12. ISU once again had entirely too many turnovers, some foolish. But credit OSU's defense on many of them. Neither team shot exceptionally well and OSU ended up with more points. That's the bottom line, the team that played better today won.
You also can't let a "lesser" team in the conference stay in the game until the end when you're on the road. Throughout the second half I found myself thinking "Put this away, or we'll blow it!" And we didn't, so we did.

I was rooting for Iowa State on this one........Oklahoma State has got to be the most schizophrenic team in the Big XII, they wait until they know they are losing their coach to play to their potential????????I do think Skibbe is a really good player, ditto Cummings and the little one..........when she's got a hot hand, she does a great job.
I do know that Oklahoma State "always" plays better in February than they do earlier in the year.
Blasted, blasted, blasted.........there goes my predictions about how the Big XII will seed out........I've given up, all I know is what time I have to be in Kansas City for OU's game. And Kansas pretty well knows what time they have to play, too....that's it; the rest is a dogfight.....fight and scrap to the end.......
The Oklahoma State team played with terrific enthusiasm and energy from the get-go; they never stopped working on defense or offense, even when they ran into a lull. Iowa State showed up, but ten minutes too late! OSU deserved this one, although I was desperately hoping we could pull it away from them at the very end. Instead, had to relive the nightmare of the Texas game -- almost an identical-twin ending.
And thank you SO much Terry Don Phillips for infusing OSU with such great "nothing-to-lose" energy this week. Might have cost the Big 12 one or two hosting slots in the NCAA. Can't hold it against the OSU team and coaches, obviously. They did what they had to do -- great job, congratulations!

Hurrah and Congrats to Oklahoma State. You've knocked of two major teams lately: Iowa State and Texas Tech. Thank goodness we've already played you twice. I could vaguely see you upsetting Tech, but Iowa State is beyond belief! Good going to all of you!

That ISU loss in Stillwater could turn out to be huge.
Baylor closes with CU at the Dome, at OSU, at ISU.
Due to this loss, BU can win our next two and still afford a loss in Ames in the season finale, yet still finish ahead of the Clones in the standings, WITHOUT having to worry about a tiebreaker. Now each of those last three games are treacherous for the Lady Bears, but I'd have to say we'll be a slight favorite in each of the next two.

big12....when OU played OSU late January, OSU played a great game and was very close. I think Baylor's advantage in that game will be their conditioning, as that seemed to be OU's advantage. I kept thinking Iowa State would pull the game out yesterday due to that very fact......cannot play a half-court game with Oklahoma State. Have to make 'em run up and down the court all game long.
