Purdue (24) got stomped at Penn State.

Ole Miss takes down Vandy (17)

I don't know what to think of Vandy. I expected Purdue to struggle a bit this year, but not this much.

My opinion of Vandy is that they have been ranked solely on their reputation this year. Granted they have had a good win-loss record but if you look at the detail you see that they have played a bunch of cupcakes in non-conference. As of Thursday morning, collegerpi has then at RPI of 82 (for a point of reference CU's RPI(in ninth position among Big 12 team RPIs) is at 80) with an SOS of 199. No way does such a record deserve to be ranked, IMHO.

It's the usual story: You have to play your way out of the rankings, as well as in. That means if you don't lose, you don't drop. Vandy's reckoning will come soon enough, and they will have the chance to show whether their ranking is deserved.

You're right Dem. And I think the reckoning for Vandy may be starting to show. In their first 12 games they went 11-1 and in the next (most recent) 5 they are 2-3. They have no wins against teams with RPIs of 65 or better. And of their 10 remaining games, only 2 are against teams with RPIs lower than 65 (at 66 and 67). So if they continue as they have been, they would go 2-8 in the remaining 10 games for an overall record of 15-12.
