This has all the signs of a really good game. I am happy that it is being televised nationally. Baylor is certainly predicted to win in my opinion. Baylor went into Austin and pulled out a win and they should feel more comfortable in Waco. The crowd will be a factor tomorrow.

Baylor has gotten some bad raps about playing cupcake teams. They don't get a lot of respect from some folks and that is too bad. People who have seen them play can appreciate what they are capable of doing. I feel good about their chances in the Big 12 tournament and I sure hope they get a decent seeding in the NCAA. Since Big 12 play has begun, it is apparent that the Lady Bears can hold their own. There have certainly been some mental lapses that caused them some problems. The first Big 12 game of the season came on the road for Baylor at Kansas State and the result may be different today. These last four games should be very interesting. Baylor is capable of winning these games if they can keep their mental focus. When they are focused, they could beat just about anybody.

Texas has really impressed a lot of people and I am one of them. There is great talent on their team and the key to a Baylor win will be the defensive pressure that they place on Texas. I think it is amusing that so many fans moaned and groaned about Coach Conradt early in the season and then sung her praises when they started doing well, and then jumped her when they had a slight setback, and now with the win over Tennessee, she is a goddess. We all know she has always been a WCBB hall of famer. I just hope if they falter down the stretch, the fans won't revolt and bad mouth her. She has a great many wins ahead of her!

It will be interesting to see what happens in Kansas City. I can hardly wait! My vote for player of the year would have to go the Sheila Lambert, I am biased however, but MAN CAN SHE WORK MAJIC WITH A BASKETBALL! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I have seen at least three occasions this year where Lambert made moves so sick that the refs HAD to call something because they had never seen a move like that before. She's too quick for them to keep up. But she'd better cut out that 9 turnover bug that she had at A&M the other night.

Nancy Lieberman Cline is doing the game.

Are "cheerstix" some type of religious symbol?

Personally, my two favorite players to watch over the last couple of years are Lambert and Stacey Dales. The good news for me is that I won't be watching either of them in the Bix XII next season....ha!

As for the Texas vs. Baylor game, it will be a good one. I just hope Jody wears her leather jacket and M-R wears the matching pants!

Texas 78
Baylor 71

I couldn't predict this game with any of our experts magic wand. All I suggest is most of you go to George's before or after the game to beat your chests and/or celebrate.

The key in my opinion will be which good post in the game , or posts, get in foul trouble. May well mean which post fouls innappropriately 95 feet from their own basket.

Just have a feeling that the home crowd and the back to back travel, even though only 99 miles, will give Baylor the advantage. Also, Lambert is better than most Texas guards.

Will Blackmon be able to suit up and play?????

How to stop Shelia and Danielle??? That's our dilemma. Hmmm...if I were the coach I would rotate Larkin, Hill, and Dillard on Lambert throughout the game, face-guarding her to limit her touches. But she's so darn quick. I think Hastings will be the key to slowing Danielle down. She's probably our only post with enough quickness to stay with her. And please, please, please...someone keep her off the offensive glass. Put a body on her and block her out. Let's see now, I only need about 700 more victories to get into the Hall of Fame! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Hope to see a good Longhorn contingent at the game. I ordered my tickets today. Sounds as if there will be lots of "extracurricular" activities going on. Certainly Baylor is a monumental matchup challenge for Texas, as someone mentioned in an earlier thread, more of a challenge than Tennessee. Hope it's a great game. We need to keep the momentum going and tie up the Bears in the standings!

Yes Air, in biblical times, cheerstix were used for sacrificing large animals known as steers. Evidently they are still widely used today. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

You will find out just what they are tomorrow. They don't make a sound that you would think would make when you bang two balloons together. It actually sounds metallic, which makes it much louder. Combined with the fact that the way the Dome was built, noise reverberates off the roof and brings it down on the floor (Hawaii copied the very same arena for that purpose at the Stan Sheriff Center), and it will make for a fun time for the Lady Bears and fans tomorrow! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Blowout Saturday starts tomorrow at 5!

(of course if we win by one I will still be just as happy)

Bevo, rebounding in the game tomorrow will be a crucial factor as to who will win this game. Even if Baylor doesn't win the battle on the boards, if they play the type of tenacious defense that they've been playing, good things can happen for them. Danielle will need to have a good game and hopefully Steffanie Blackmon will be there to take up some of the slack! The guard play will be fun to watch!

Thankfully OU has already played them twice. So how to stop them? Let them graduate!

This should be a very interesting game. And perhaps Baylor will blow them out. I don't think so right now. But as I have said before, let's see what Baylor does next year without Crockrom and Lambert. Lambert, in my opinion, is the best player in the Big 12 hands down. She breaks down defenses and picks you clean on defense. If we can hold her in check, we have a chance.

This seems like an appropriate spot to post some remarks Bill Fennelly made on his call-in show last night about Jody Conradt and the win at Tennessee:

"Coach Conradt is TRULY a Hall-of-Famer. She is a class act. Every single time we have played them, whether we win, whether we lose, she has treated our players, our program, with tremendous dignity. That's just the way she is. She is all about the sport, she is all about the growth of the sport. She has seen this game grow from its infancy to where it is today, and it's people like that that have allowed that to happen. And she's had great programs, some of the best women's college teams of all time, at Texas.

"And I think that her kids really went out and played a game, and I think you can easily say that . . . they were playing for her that night, and not just for Texas, and wanted to keep that record going. What she's done, it's mind-boggling, to look at the number of victories she's had, and national championships. You just look through that media guide and it's AMAZING, that one person can have that kind of impact on a university.

"And to her credit, again, we've been kind of the new kid on the block in a lot of ways, and she has treated us SO well. When we lost down there by one point, she talked about our team in glowing terms. Those kind of people don't come along enough in this sport, in ANY walk of life. So I was really happy for Coach Conradt and her team. It was a win that was well-deserved, and I'm sure it's one that when she gets done it will be a highlight of her career, and there's a lot of highlights in that career."

Thanks for posting that, dem! And thanks to all who had kind words after the Tennessee win.

Big12Bear, the Ferrell Center is a great basketball arena. I've really enjoyed watching games there. And now that the Baylor fans are filling it up on a regular basis, it is truly a tough place to play.

Thanks, Dem, for the quotes from Bill Fennelly. I'm easy to please. I'll have a warm spot in my heart for 'ol Bill now.

The game - What Bevo said -
How to stop Shelia and Danielle??? That's our dilemma. Hmmm...if I were the coach I would rotate Larkin, Hill, and Dillard on Lambert throughout the game, face-guarding her to limit her touches. But she's so darn quick. I think Hastings will be the key to slowing Danielle down

Somehow, someway, Texas has to defend Baylor and keep enough offense on the floor. I see the guard match-ups as most problematical for Texas. We may have to keep Hill or Dillard in the game with Larkin for much of the game. This puts either Bowers or Schreiber, 2 of our best scorers, on the bench. Hastings is beginning to show her scoring ability which has been missing since her injury. She can help us if she can hit a few shots as well as defend and rebound. Dillard continues to struggle with her shot. Asha Hill has hit a few big ones. If she just takes the open shots she is given, she can at least keep the defense honest.

Like many others who do not wear a lot of green and gold, I am looking forward to the graduation of Lambert and Crockrom. I'll be happy to root for their success in the WNBA.

Well it's time to make the 110 mile trek down 35 South from Dallas to Waco for the game and a little pregame fun at the Outback Steakhouse tent.

To the BU and UT fans making the trip, have a safe one. I'm looking forward to an exciting the game and being able to showcase our conference on national TV!

Sic 'Em Bears!
