"Kendra Wecker scored seven of Kansas State's first 14 points, but landed awkwardly on her left foot after a jump shot 4:21 into the game. The preseason All-American, averaging 24 points, left Bramlage Coliseum on crutches."

I hope she's all right. She's one of my favorite players to watch.

No kidding! Let's hope this injury sounds a lot worse than it is. Any update, Cat's fans?

Coach Ethriidge in her post game comments said they had sent her for further evaluation. She had been assured that there was nothing broken but did not know the extent of the sprain or how long she might be out. She said it was probably a pretty safe guess she would be out for at least a couple of games and to early to comment any further. Kendra appeared to be in a lot of pain and she takes pain pretty well. Wish her the best and a fast recovery before we really need her. Actually after half time the team stepped up and didn't miss a beat either offensively or defensively with many different combinations on the floor. The bench has been getting a lot of minutes and are improving every game with their consistency.

no....Wecker Wrecker's don't get hurt..... :(
Hope she returns to the court soon.
I don't have much in the way of facts to add. We will just hope for the best. Needless to say we went from a fun atmosphere to a very QUIET gym in an instant.
On other notes Shana Wheeler continues to impress me. She makes freshman mistakes especially on defense but she is already a VERY positive force on the floor for the Wildcats. She does a lot of things that won't show up in the stat sheet but help the team. One thing she does with those long arms and quickness is tap a lot of rebounds to another Cat or away from opposing players. The other two frosh are also clearly going to contribute and are growing in every game.
Another player that is continuing to develop well is Claire Coggins. For my money I think she should be starting.

This may sound corny. But when any of our ladies of the Big 12 suffer an injury, I think it would be nice to post an email address for the athletic department for us to send an email of encouragement to the player. I just think it would be nice for Kendra Wecker, Erin Grant and Stephanie McGhee (et al) to know that Big 12 women's fans from all schools care about the league as a whole as well as the ladies who represent us. It's what separates this fan board from most and just a thought.

Thats a very nice thought Vickie. I'm guessing a bit but I think the best route to email KSU coaches with a message would be to email Assistant Coach Stephanie White. Her email addy is sjwhite@ksu.edu.
Megan Mahoney is the second player in Wildcat history to have dished out 400 assists. She dished out seven assists tonight and passed 500. That gives her a total of 506. The all time leader at KSU is Mary Jo Miller with 562. Megan also went 5-8 from the field for 11 points and added 4 rebounds and a steal. She is not perfect though. She had 1 turnover. ;)
In other notes on tonights game Claire Coggins went 6-10 from the field for 14 points and led K-State in rebounds with 7.
I heard a Nicole Ohlde radio commercial for a bank today. She did well.

On a side note, for a majority of the second half, it was a combination of Claire, Twiggy, Shana, Kimberly and Carolyn. Older players would come in and out, but we still kept our significat lead.

Koehn led the wildcats in scoring tonight with 19 points including 5 of 11 from Treyland. She also had 4 assists and 4 steals.
Mahoney was her usual stellar self. Just plays a hard nosed and good all around game.
When Wecker hit the floor at the 4 and one-half minute mark, you could have heard a pin drop in Bramledge. Scary, scary, scary. Just thankful it wasn't a knee. I hate injuries. Don't like to see any player from any team hurt. These kids work so hard and the game means so much to them, it is a shame when their playing time is taken away due to injury. Particularly when a player is a senior. Here's hoping Kendra is able to bounce back quickly for Kendra's sake as well as the team's.

I agreen TENFOLD with Marlene...I hate to see any athlete hurt. I hope Kendra's injury is shortlived and she's back out on the court creating havoc. If I could pick ONE player from any other team, Kendra would be my pick....

The newspapers are saying it's a sprained ankle.

It is still early in pre-conference games. She has approx a month to heal and hopefully won't rush back.
After Jia left last season, Tech revamped their offense to make Cisti more of the first option. When Cisti broke her ankle it was an opportunity for the quiet ones, Dabbs and Grant to take more a leadership role. And they stepped up, which is also paying off this season.
While I hate injuries, this is an chance for Mahoney and Koehn and the youngsters to be leaders on the court and may prove valuable for KSU even next season with further development of the younger players.
There may be some struggles on the court in the meantime, but KSU may be better off when Wecker gets back on the court.

Yes, Wecker's injury will result in some of the underclassmen getting more playing time. Perhaps, in the long run, it will benefit the team. My main concern right now is Kendra Wecker. She is a fierce competitor who, I'm sure, hates sitting out even a minute or two in a game. Having to completely miss some games will be emotionally difficult for her. When she was injured last night, she rolled over and slapped the floor with her open palm. She was in a a lot of physical pain but I felt that the reaction was probably as much in fear for missed playing time as for physical discomfort.
Megan Mahoney has been the Wildcats' emotional leader on the basketball court for quite some time. Like Wecker, she is a fierce prescence on the court in all categories: rebounding, steals, assists, scoring, defense. The first game I saw these kids play as freshmen three years ago, I kept noticing #34 who was making some tremendous passes. I had read in the newspapers about Koehn, Wecker and Ohlde. But who was this Mahoney person? I have been one of her biggest fans ever since the first time I saw her play.

Maybe this will help KSU in the long run. Where I live, I saw a lot of Minnesota games last year. I honestly do not think Minnesota would have made the Final Four had Whalen not missed those games and forced the others to learn to play without her in there.

I really like her game and her attitude. Seems to never say die. Best of luck to her and the Wildcats on the upcoming season.

Really sorry about this. Wecker is a great player and I want her to get the recognition she deserves. This won't happen if she is on the bench, but I know she will be back in time to give all of her Big XII opponents fits and that she will have a stronger team behind her.
All the best to Kendra.
