Texas was down by five points at halftime. But they came out of the half time fired up and scored the first seven points of the second half. The last basket was a three pointer by Bowers that bounced around before going into the basket. That caused Pat Summit to call a time out. The offensive rebounding by Texas put the pressure on Tennessee. Five minutes into the second half Texas held a one point lead.

Tennessee got a basket by Snow to retake the lead. But Tennessee continued to make some critical mistakes. Tennessee was called for consecutive fouls. The first was a charge and then a blocking foul at the other end. Lawson put in two free throws to tie the game at 45 each with 13:50 left in the game.

Texas hung tough exchanging baskets with Tennessee. Hastings picked up her fourth foul with 11:38. The score was Texas 51 and Tennessee 49. Stephens was all over the boards for Texas. Texas had some turnovers and Snow got an offensive rebound and tied the game at 53. Texas answered with a turnover and Conradt called a time out with 9:19 left in the game. Bowers scored and matched a career high 20 points. Snow tied the game again with another basket with just over eight minutes left.

Tennessee blew a steal opportunity and Texas answered with a fast break score. Larkin picked up her third foul with 7:25 left. Stephens got smacked in the face and was replaced by Cook. Larkin was called for her fourth foul with 7:05 left that sent her to the Texas bench. Hill canned a three point basket to give a one point lead back to Texas with 5:20 left. At 5:09 Stephens came back into the game.

Again the teams traded baskets and Summit called a time out with 4:25 left. Texas was ahead 65 to 63. Lawson was called for an offensive foul with 3:48 left in the game. Tennessee pressed with Larkin still on the Texas bench, Texas traveled with the ball. Stephens picked up her fourth foul with 3:17 left. Snow missed the first but made the second free throw. Texas was still up by one point.

Schreiber got a tip in and Texas was up by three points. Tennessee had a turnover. Texas could not score and Tennessee did. Tennessee called a time out with 2:05 left and was behind by one point. Larkin came back into the game. Stephens was fouled and put in the first but missed the second free throw with 1:49 left.

Lawson missed a shot and Texas got the rebound with just over one and half minutes left in the game. Texas got in trouble controlling the ball and called a time out with 1:27 left. Bowers was called for a charge foul with 1:17 left. Texas was up by two points.

Conradt was making defensive and offensive substitutions. Stephens got the defensive rebound. Texas missed a three and got the rebound. Tennessee had to foul with 0:30.1 left. Larkin went to the line and put in the first free throw. Tennessee called a time out. Larkin then missed the second free throw. Stephens got a crucial defensive rebound with 0:15.7 and called a time out to save the ball for Texas. The score was Texas 69 and Tennessee 66.

Tennessee pressed, got the steal, and Tennessee called a time out with 0:10.3 remaining. Tennessee substituted in their three point shooters. Tennessee missed two, three point shots and Texas got their final defensive rebound to knock off Tennessee. The final score was Texas 69 and Tennessee 66. Bowers finished with 22 points for Texas.

Way to go Longhorns !

Hmmm, the Big XII has knocked off two of the top teams in the SEC this year. I wonder if that will even send a message to the WBB world?

Congrats Horns, great win!

For all those people who wondered if the Big 12 was as good as the SEC, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES. What a win for Texas and the conference.

I think this win MAY have actually won the Big XII some of the respect it has been looking for.........

way to go, Texas http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Actually, swok34, I think this is the game that passed the torch. We are intelligent enough as a group of fans to have already discerned the Big 12 as the top women's basketball conference, but this game will probably mark the "turn of the tide" in public opinion about the strength of our conference.

Now we need to follow this win up with a STRONG statement in the Dance.

I predicted this win yesterday. What a guru!

(Just ignore my Hoopla score, OK? It really means NOTHING.)

;^))

Way to go Lady Longhorns!!! That was an exciting game to watch!

Wonder if that rugged Big 12 schedule helped prepare them for a game on the road against a top team?

Guess Jody wants to hold onto that record for a while longer. I don't blame her one bit.

Now Lady Raiders, you need to do your part against Wisconsin. I want there to be no doubt about which conference is toughest in the country when the selection committee meets.

I agree, Big 12bear.......they can celebrate until Friday nite http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
and then go back in their hole........just kidding.

Can you imagine what kind of confidence this win is going to give Texas?

Way to go Texas! You played your hearts out and never let the pressure, the place or the fouls get you down. You probably could hear the screams all over austin when the buzzer sounded.

I'd also like to say thank you to all the other big 12 team fans who rooted for Texas tonight. Thank you and I'll be with your teams in non-conference play too! I've got tickets to the final four and if a Big 12 team makes it, I'll be wearing their colors. I'll be really happy if it is burnt orange - but I think I've even got some red and black in the closet : )

Stephens shot 2-14. Texas was outrebounded 36-43, 7-16 OFF, they had 21 TO vs 3 STeals and 5 blocks, TN had 15, 9, and 8. The difference that gives Texas the edge seems to be free throws; they made more than TN shot, and on TN's home court!

Anyhow, this is a great win for the conference. Way to go Texas.
However, I have to add--if the Big 12 doesn't have a representative in San Antonio, this means squat! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I just got out of a board meeting and couldn't wait to fire up my computer and check out how my UT did. Awsome!!!! Thank you TEXAS! I thought you could do it, but you did it. And I do understand Jennifer's point but no matter what happens in the NCAAs this means a lot to me and I could not be happier for the University of Texas and the coaching staff and team. HOOK EM HORNS!

Great win Texas! Isn't this the first time in a long time, y'all have beaten Tenn? and to get the win in Knoxville no less!
Y'all showed the SEC and the country just what it is like to play ball in the Big12 every single game...

What a great site. It is so nice to see you all show your support and I'll be sure to return the favor. But the classiest thing I read was the following. I'm so impressed that Summit has instilled such character in her players.

"Texas played very uptempo. They are a very physical team. We were playing the kind of team tonight that coach wants us to be. They just gave us a taste of what we should be." Michelle Snow
