I'll be heading home to New Mexico in January for a great new job in Santa Fe...'course thanks to the celebrities *real* people can't afford to live in Santa Fe so home will likely be someplace between Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

I was a Lady Raider fan before I came to Tech and will stay a Lady Raider fan. Basketball games have been a staple in my life for the past 6 years and I have trouble imagining my life without them. :(

I'm still groused about the behavior of the UNM fans against Tech at the Pit and swore I'd never darken the door of the Pit again...famous last words. But I've told myself that the players had zip to do with their fans and the bottomline is that I love women's basketball.

I've thought about how fun it would be to go to the UNM games wearing my Lady Raider gear and some UNM gear :D

I won't make it to KC this year, but perhaps the Big 12 tourney next year can be worked out. I will miss the competiveness of the Big 12...the MWC has some good teams in UNLV, Utah and UNM and CSU...but it ain't the Big 12.

I'm here until January 3...so I'll get to see the non-conference games

UNM is playing 3 Big12 teams this season..OSU, Mizzou and Texas...so in order to get myself geared up, I'm going to be pulling for UNM in all those contests. I will be shocked should UNM take down Texas AGAIN in the Pit since that victory happened during UT's early season freefall in 2002.

Mom may end up staying in Lubbock until I sell my house, so I may get to come back for a few weekend basketball games. Thanks to the Internet, I can listen to games and keep up with things from far away. I plan to keep up with HoopScoop and will eagerly expect great game reports of the Lady Raiders from eldenmom and others.

Either on the board or in person! Don't see why you can't get to KC - didn't you make it a condition of employment that you have a duty to the Big12 Tourney?

It's going to be interesting to see how you handle the schizophrenia of being a Lobo fan and a Basketball fan at the same time! ;)

This morning on he way to work I heard stuff about that and how much higher housing is in Santa Fe than here in Albuquerque. They have a bus that runs from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and back now if you choose to live in ABQ.

As far as the Pit, maybe you will enjoy the atmosphere under different circumstances. I did not agree or like the way a lot of fellow Lobo fans acted at that game, either, or the way a fewLobo and Tech fans talk to each other on boards. I've got my opinions on that, of course even some of my friends don't agree. LOL. Anyway, many times I have an extra ticket, and a couple friends usually have an extra one, so if you want to e-mail me when you get here, feel free to. ghro595110@aol.com

I have good friends that recently moved to Albuquerque and they love it. Maybe you can find a neutral site. You are never too far away with the internet. Look at Yemen Bear. :) Of course Tech will be on TV and maybe you can catch them there fairly often. Good luck and enjoy the first half of the season. We will miss you in KC.

ldlbfn thanks for the offer...I may take you up on it. I'll be doing some traveling within the state, so I'm not going to try for season tickets right now and will take my chances game to game until I get a sense of my schedule.

'Course I have 2 strikes against me...being a Lady Raider fan and an Arizona men's fan (I'm an alum of UA) and the UNM faithful didn't appreciate my Arizona seat cushion (which was not deliberate...just what I had) or my Lady Raider gear. I know UNM holds a grudge against both programs. 'Course after being accosted by UNM fans after the Duke game, I cut my Lobo t-shirt into shreads and stuffed in the dumpster so I suppose I'll have to find another one.

Soonerman...no schizophrenia about it, unless UNM should play Tech again..heaven help us, my heart would be with Tech.

I had to go through the same thing in 2001. I had gone to virtually every home game and a dozen or so road games from 97-98 to 00-01. I then moved 350 miles away. I've gone to around a half-dozen games over the past three seasons, three of them within 120 miles of me (@ Northwestern, @ Marquette, @ Wisconsin) and the rest in Ames. It's no fun at all to be incapable of watching your team, and ISU has had very few televised games the past few seasons (only two in 04-05). Gametracker + streaming audio is what I live with most of the time.

I've been looking at opportunities to move back to Iowa, so maybe I'll be able to watch more games in person at some point this season. :)

It was great meeting you in Dallas last season. Best of luck in the new phase of life and don't be a stranger to Big 12 Land if at all possible!

noooooooooo, you can't leave :(

Doesn't Texas Tech have all it's home games where you can watch them over the internet? OU does for $10 bucks a month....pretty good deal, if you can't go. I know.....not the same, but better than not at all, and radio only.
We will miss you in Kansas City.

Bball Girl,

I know the UNM vs. Tech is a big rivalry for the folks out there in New Mexico. When the Lady Bears played their first two games of the 2003/04 tournament in Albuquerque, the Lobo fans were pretty amazing. They were LOUD in their support of the Lady Lobos....I mean really, really loud. It was a special atmosphere. I didn't see anything that showed disrespect or poor sportsmanship directed towards the University of Florida (UNM's first round opponent).

Their fans also turned out for the second round game between Florida and Baylor. In my book, that says a lot about their fans.

UNM is consistently in the top 5 in lady basketball attendance. You might want to get on a season ticket list so you can start working your way towards better seats. There should be some exciting games in the Pit.

You will definitely go through withdrawal pains. These can be EXCRUCIATING! Hope you enjoy life in New Mexico. Don't stop posting. I always enjoy your insights. Take full advantage of all Lady Raider games for the remainder of time you're in Lubbock.

I think I know a little bit about how you feel. My other sports passion is Modifed Midget or Minisprint racing and when I moved from the midwest to Oregon many years ago it was a bit like being sent to purgatory. The good news for me was "I'm BACK". Hang in there. We will miss you until YOU'RE BACK. :( Visit often please!

Good luck with your new job (and locating a new hairdresser, doctor, dentist and auto mechanic).

Bball Girl, I will REALLy miss your smiling face and astute observations and assessments of LR basketball! Hope you will drop by to some of the practices before you go to sort of stoke up for the long winter ahead, and you know where I sit at the games.

I will miss your mom, too. She is a really neat lady and a heck of a golfer.
Anyway, I wish you the best in your new job and search for a new home. If you can't make the Big XII tournament, try for the sub regionals in Big D. I'm working hard on my husband to go to that one.

Shoot! Who is going to get me the real story behind the story from practices????

With the internet and College Sports Pass you can be a long distance fan with ease. So don't be a stranger around these parts. You've got to keep your lofty poster rating around here, you know?

Lubbock, Texas Tech and the Lady Raiders were lucky to have you around. I wish you the best Bball Girl in your new adventure.
