Missouri plays Kansas at home this Saturday, and....
Come one, come all: Saturday's contest is Missouri's annual Head-to-the Hearnes promotion as the Tigers will attempt to break the all-time attendance record of 10,216. That mark was set last season against Kansas on Feb. 10, 2001.
Interesting they would pick Kansas - I guess why not that's the team they played against when they got 10,216 to show up. Would be very impressed if they could even come close this season given that Missouri is down a bit and Kansas is way, way down.
Ironically, ISU's trying to pack the house against Kansas as well. Why Kansas? That week is residence hall week, and the grand finale is trying to get the residence hall students and greeks out to Hilton to see the game. The hope is to have ISU's first ever sellout.

What does ol' Hilton hold?
ISU's highest crowd ever was 13,617 against St. Francis (PA) in the 200 NCAA tournament. The highest regular-season attendance is 13,271 against Iowa in the 99-00 season.

This game was picked mostly because of the rivalry with KU, not neccessarily because of the 'Hawks being down (although it helped)
We topped the record, drew 10,345 (or something like that) and there were times when the crowd got good and rowdy. On the other hand, there were obviously a lot of folks who'd never been to a game before, and didn't "get" the game or know the players well. I was also worried before the game when I saw that the infamous "Antlers" had decided for the first time this season to grace us with their attendance...they go to all the men's games and are renowned for unsportsmanlike taunting of opponents...they're more interested in being seen and looking cool than in supporting the team, and I was embarrassed as all hell to look down and see them holding up a sign that said "In the closet" at one of the KU players. I've told a lot of people who wonder why I have season tix for the Lady Tigers but only go to a few mens games, and one of several reasons is that the fans are always much better, more into the game, and more sportsmanlike...and the Antlers aren't there. They reminded everyone again Saturday why it's a good thing they're NOT at the women's games, and I hope they don't come back.
Play wasn't bad, although Mizzou still worries me a bit. Stein's trying to get them to push the ball upcourt a bit and that worked really poorly at times, with passes way over people's heads. When it did work, we got some easy scores out of it. With Bright a senior, the old "set it up and run the offense" that I love may be less of an option, since she's the one who runs the offense, and we may see more aggressive offense next year out of the Tigers. Good game for Amy Loftus, our big center is becoming more well rounded in her offensive game, and is obviously a force on D. She's getting out of her worst habit, the "anger foul." For a long time, any time she'd miss a shot she was bound to foul someone on the next trip down. Haven't seen that happen lately. Schedule's tough on the rest of the way out, but that'll just make the team that much better as the tourney approaches, and if they play with intensity (where's Angie Carter?) they're capable of pulling off an upset or two...ask the Lady Raiders!

I think OU was wise to host their "elementary school" day in a game vs Texas A & M.....it packed LNC with ?9000...when that game, in the past, has struggled to draw 2000.

Agreed. Either A&M or Nebraska would have been good picks. Will be interesting to see how many OU draws on Saturday. If OU were to win at KSU on Wednesday, they would have a commanding 3 game lead over everybody else. And the final two home games against Nebraska and Texas Tech would become a coronation of sorts to cheer on yet another Big 12 conference regular season title (3 in a row!). So I could see big crowds the next two games. I think the Texas Tech game has a shot at being sold out, especially if they publicize it a bit. I'm sure the media will with it being Dales, Caufield, Ross, Talbert, Selmon, and Cunningham's last game.

seems OU always draws well for senior night, though the last 2 years, it has been vs OSU.....
the men's basketball team plays on Tuesday nite.
Pretty sure they will promote it pretty highly, especially with sooooooo many seniors. Even though, they are pretty assured of hosting an NCAA I would think, even at this juncture.

ah, Oklahoma's game vs Nebraska is the "Ada, Oklahoma" day. Both Laneisha Caufield and Caton Hill are from Ada...actually I think about 3/4 of the town is Laneisha's family and 1/4 is Caton....naw, that's not true, but it's a big thing for Ada to come to Norman.....they have T-shirts printed up (or have the last couple of years).

Sounds like what KSU has been doing all season in an effort to boost attendance. Will be interesting to see how many head to the game on Saturday.

Foiled, again. I had planned on coming to this game, but a friend had a business trip scheduled to Dallas and is staying w/ me through the weekend. Don't think she'd call a day road trip to Norman to watch a ball game a fun day...
I will make the Texas Tech game, barring anything major at work keeping me from leaving early that day.
