just would like to know what professions most of the readers have and what level of sports they played in school. No this isn't a term paper... just kinda curious.

Me --- medical field, played HS softball and volleyball. Played softball 1 yr in college. Funny, didn't like basketball in HS "too physical" for me. Though its my favorite now (girls that is) and football.

Yeah BIG 12!!! go http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ut.gif

I'm an electrical engineer. http://www.hwextreme.com/reviews/misc/showcase9/page6.shtmlHere</a> is what I am currently working on.

I never played organized school sports beyond 8th grade. I had played pretty much everything up to then, but being male in a large high school meant there was a whole lot of competition in high school sports and I knew I wasn't particularly good. I played co-rec volleyball one year in high school, but other than that it was ultimate frisbee and pick-up basketball games. Currently, I play a lot of disc golf and am on the church softball team.

WOW !!!! MRED very impressive! That is really great that you have such a skill! Its hard to imagine that when I started college ---we won't say how long ago -- that we had to learn the punch card system. And we thought the greatest contraption up to that point was the calculater. Wooo http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I'm a rural hospital administrator in Kansas. I loved basketball but my gifts for the sport would best be described as "short but slow" and a poor shot besides. I did play one year of high school ball before the coach suggested I find some other way to torment him. I lettered and started three years in football on the offensive and defensive line. Just to prove I'm not real bright (if being a rural hospital administrator didn't already do that) I also ran the distance events in track and ran cross country. All in high school. They would not allow me to be closer to the action than in the stands in college.

My lifetime "sport" though, has been small time car racing. I drove street stocks for a few years but mostly pit-crewed for other drivers, including open wheel cars like modified midgets. (sort of like a small winged sprint car with four cylinder motorcyle engines) I have currently messed that up by accepting an officer position with the JayHusker Racing Association. We run about 22 shows a year with mini-trucks, three quarter midgets and modified midgets in Kansas and Nebraska. The little cars are a blast and the best part is NOBODY ever asks me anything about medical or hospital issues!

I am a freshman to be at the University of Texas at Dallas (Richardson), am going to major in chemistry (or biology http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif ) and hopefully go into optometry after that.

Never played a sport for my high school, but I did play basketball for three years for a league called MOB here in Lubbock. Was a decent player, had a shot, played great defense IMO http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif but I never felt I would be able to make it in 4A HS ball. I am only 5'11" and I played forward so I am a little undersized.

Coached a league her in Lubbock called LGB for three years now. Have gotten "runner up" for the past two years (sucks when you lose by 1 in both games).

I've been a working journalist for about 8 years. I'm currently a projects producer for a broadcasting outlet, before that I was a sports reporter/anchor in Big 12 country...something I miss very much.

I played football (you can't grow up in Nebraska and not play football) and ran track in high school. I at least lettered in those, but my favorite activity was forensics. Four trips to nationals and made a bunch of friends for life, and had a lot of good times.

mred, I want one of the gizmos!

KSU, I've been to a few JayHusker events, THOSE CRANK!!! Does the series have a website, I'm going home for a visit in a few weeks and would love to see a show. Motorsports have been lifelong passion of mine, and now I work on a motorsports show. Later this month, I'll get to see my favorite sporting event, The Indianapolis 500, and get an all-access pass for it http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I work in a Risk Management group for a bank as a Statistician. I'm bored w/ it, but after 7 years of school and still student loan debt to pay off, am unsure what to do now. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif I'm most passionate about volunteer work at the Children's Medical Center in Dallas, so I'm hoping eventually that will lead me to a job I'm happier with. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I didn't care about sports at all when I was younger. When I was 8, 3 naturally gifted athletic girls moved in near me and I started playing softball and basketball with them. THey made me play basketball so we'd have even teams. I was the age of the middle sister. I wasn't really athletically inclined (slow, lead feet), but because the middle sister was good and we were best friends, we were both recruited to a small D-II Juco (though softball was my favorite sport--played both FP and SLP). Ended up riding the pine my frosh year for a team slightly over .500 and almost didn't go back for the 2nd year as I wanted to walk-on and play softball somewhere. Earned a starting position my sophomore year for a team that only had 7 losses (can't remember how many wins 23 or 24?). Anyhow...I was burned out on bball in HS, but really enjoyed that last year I played in Juco. I switched from post in HS to small forward in juco and my biggest threat was 3 pt shooting, though I was basically one of those quiet role player types. Never did get any speed and couldn't jump to well either. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
I quit playing rec co-ed softball last year due to shoulder problems. I play racquetball with my boyfriend now, and plan to start mountain biking with him some--my muscles and bones have had about all the impact stuff they can take, and I'm not even 30 yet! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/eek.gif

Thanks for the JayHusker support Chipper. Yes we do have a volunteer run website. Strangely enough, its www.jayhusker.com. (http://www.jayhusker.com.)
We were not so lucky when my hospital set up our website. Its www.ccmcks.org. (http://www.ccmcks.org.)

We got rained out at Fairbury, Nebraska last week but we got our first show of the year in at Concordia, KS last night. We will be back at Fairbury again Saturday but I wouldn't bet against rain again. They built a new track last year and we have scheduled six shows up there and been rained out four times. The JayHuskers have to be the best thing south central Nebraska farmers have going.

We also have regular races at Washington, KS and Clay Center, KS and sometimes other places. You guessed right, the schedule is on the website, but you will have to click on "news results" and then schedule to get it. If you get a chance to come let me know, I'll introduce you around. If things work out e-mail me and I'll get in touch with you.

My nephew drives a modified miget but he just had (with a little help from his wife) a new little girl, so he may not be racing much this summer. I'd love to have you meet him. He is a teacher and one a his pride and joys is the high school forensics team he coaches. You two could, no doubt, both easily out debate me.

Thanks for the thread BEVOFAN2, and thanks to all of you for responding. I think its great that we have Students to mred on this board. As long as you like WBB you are my buddy. Go Big XII!

I used to be a Catholic priest until that rumor a few years ago. Now I spend most days coaching youth sports. Enjoy it immensely. The close interaction with the kids and all.

Just kidding Hoopscoopers. I did attend Catholic elementary and high school also, without incident. In reality, I am a lawyer, board certified in family law. Trying to master the the maze of making sense of a difficult situation and guide people to decisions or analysis to mitigate the emotion and keep the kids in the forefront of the discussion.

Played all four sports in high school, baseball team won State senior year and attended UT on baseball scholarship. Worst sport was basketball but loved the game the most. Played due to quickness and defense, not shooting or dribbling ability---had a bit of a foul problem. Coached high school girls AAU team four years, won AAU Nationals 16U, runner-up AAU 18U, 5th as 17's. As Jimmy Johnson after the Cowboys won the Super Bowl said, "I was just as good a coach when we were 1-15 as when we won it all."

Seen play or coached against virtually all the ladies we talk about and following them and their teams is a joy. The addiction looks incurable. Love to absorb ya'll's knowledge and expertise.

Go Big 12!!!

I played doubles on the tennis team in highschool in Austin where we got beat every year in District finals by Corpus. Lettered in tennis and intramurals. Went to UT where I was a member of the golf and tennis clubs...Way back then they didn't have university womens teams in those sports. Have always loved sports. Now I belong to two women's golf organizations and swim at the "Y" to keep the limbs and joints working.

I'm a media type, too. Program Director and Morning Announcer at a public radio station at MU. Also work for University Concert Series, a performance series of about 40-50 shows a year.

I was a crappy athlete. I tried, but never did accomplish much. I played youth baseball pretty well, and a couple of years of soccer in middle school. I tried out for three straight years, and was cut three straight years, as a basketball player, shooting the theory that tall guys should play basketball (I'm 6'7")
I stayed involved in sports for some time, though, as a student trainer through high school and my first year of college; and I've coached youth sports, baseball and basketball. My current project is my 9 year old daughter who is crazy for basketball and will be a WNBA star in about 12 more years!

I am a 45 year old male and am currently back in college studying to become a registered nurse. For the better part of the last 17 years, I worked as real estate attorney for a state agency in Austin, Texas. Played tennis in high school and continue to enjoy playing in tennis leagues and tournaments (at the 3.5 level). I became a fan of girls basketball while watching my friends play in high school and began following women's college basketball in the mid to late 1980's. In addition to following the UT women's basketball team, I also follow (but to a lesser extent) UT football and men's basketball.

I am glad to hear that you are attending an R.N. training program. As you know we have a very high need for nurses in this country. No doubt you have already have looked into the issue, but don't forget there are a lot of nursing scholarships available. In Kansas many hospitals and also the state provide scholarships in addition to the traditional sources. That applies to upperclassmen also.

Nursing is a great second career for many people and lots of non-traditional students go into nursing. Good luck, and if there is any way I can be of help email me at the addy in my profile.
