Sweat a `Cat in `06-07
By STEVE SELL, Sentinel Sports Editor
The Kansas State women's basketball team is putting all the pieces in place for another Kansas connection.
The Wildcats, whose basketball renaissance centered around Kansans Laurie Koehn, Nicole Ohlde and Kendra Wecker, have added yet another Sunflower State verbal commitment, as McPherson High junior Ashley Sweat has announced she will be joining the Wildcats for the 2006-07 season.
Sweat, a 6-2 forward who is both an inside-outside threat, will be joining MHS teammate Marlies Gipson, a Bullpup senior who this summer also gave the Wildcats a verbal commitment.
Sublette's Shalee Lenning, Winfield's JoAnn Hamlin and Andover Central's Kari Kincaid (like Sweat a junior) have agreed to join the Wildcats of coach Deb Patterson.
Sweat helped the Bullpups to the Class 5A title game each of the last two years, losing to Miege and Bishop Carroll in the finals. The Bullpups return all but one player from last year's team and could be ranked No. 1 at the start of the year.
