They were 16-1 at one point in the season...

Tonight, our friends to the east (Iowa) beat Wisconsin 76-64. This marks Wisconsin's 6th straight loss. They are now 16-7. Granted, most of those losses are to good teams (Minnesota, Penn State, Iowa, Purdue, plus the early-season loss @ Texas) and the other two (Michigan State and Indiana) aren't too bad, but I expected them to win 3 or 4 of those.

Wisconsin faces a nearly-sure win in their next game: Northwestern, a team that I thought could do something in the Big Ten after how well they stayed with ISU. They only have 4 wins, none in the conference.

After that, Wisconsin has to play @ Texas Tech (go Lady Raiders!) and @ Minnesota (go Golden Gophers!), both games in which it will be the underdog. They end the season at Ohio State, a team with a few very impressive conference victories. It doesn't get any easier for the Badgers.

Don't ask what possessed me to start a thread about a non-conference team. I just couldn't believe that they lost again today.

Wisconsin is still capable of beating anyone, It's the kind of team of team you don't wanna face in march when all thier injured players are back. They are struggling right now but we all know what they are capable of. I still think they will make the Tourney but as a low seed, watch out! upset city baby!

If Wisconsin wins out (including the Big Ten tournament) I'm sure they'll be hosting. More likely, they'll lose two or three more and find themselves as a 6 seed or so. They sure aren't a 6 seed I want in my region, though.

I don't know what's wrong with Wisconsin. I know the Big 10 is a tough league with parity like our own. I keep thinking they will recover like teams in the Big 12 have done.....but it just doesn't seem to be happening. I think some of those losses came in close games and I believe they have lost 2nd half leads several times. Haven't seen them play but I wonder if they are just playing really tight. It is a senior-laden team. Early in the year, that experience shined through, now it's as if the pressure is getting to them. Hate to see that for the psyche of the players.

Also wanted them to do better for the sake of Tech's SOS, win or lose. With the experienced height on that team, they could give the Lady Raiders problems. I would hate for Tech to jump-start a strong finish to Wisconsin's season.

Wisconsin is one of those teams this season that offers some helpful "perspective" to those of us in the Big 12 suffering from unaccustomed losses. I doubt it's much fun right now to be a fan of one of these currently, formerly, or nearly ranked teams:

Wisconsin:
start, 16-1, since then: 0-6

Georgia:
start, 11-0, since then: 4-7

Michigan:
start, 10-1, since then: 4-7

Michigan State:
start, 9-1, since then: 5-8

Auburn:
start, 12-1, since then: 2-7

Ain't conference play just so wonderful for teams like those listed above? If you want to think about which Big 12 teams might fit the mold of this list, I guess you would consider Iowa State 12-0, since then: 6-5; and Missouri 9-2, since then 4-6. Iowa State being a bit of a shock, and Missouri about as expected - at least for me.
