According to Track and Field News's statistical roundup from the 2001 season, Kendra Wecker was not only by far and away the best female javelin thrower in high school. Her longest throw of 174 feet was tied for 8th on the list of best performances by any woman anywhere in the United States! This is just 13 feet, 9 inches behind the national leader.
I am sure I speak for eleven of the Big 12 Women's Basketball programs in enthusiastically wishing Kendra a great javelin career, with the hope that she doesn't let anything distract her from the training she needs to do to make the 2004 Olympic Track and Field team.
(I've been wondering -- has anyone seen her try to throw a long downcourt pass yet? That would have to be a sight! I'll bet she could easily throw it on the fly from one baseline to the other and knock the receiver on her rear.)
