The standard laundry list of failure. Never led in the game. Never made a run in the game. Another fine effort by Keasha Cannon wasted, that young lady I pray gets a look in the WNBA for just persevering through this time alone. Cannon's earned some all-Big 12 consideration in my book. She's come to play every game. Fought hard every game, and she's doing it without a lick of help for anyone else. Keasha's earned the right to rip her entire team, and I'll bet when she's alone or talking to her boyfriend (a nasty-quick JUCO guard who will be at Barry Collier's service next season), she probably says, "My teammates all have zero talent and zero heart."
ABOUT STREAKING COLORADO.
Vichy Colorado? C'est magnifique!!!!!!
This team is coming together strong. A month ago, they were a bubble team, now if the can keep it up, Coors Events Center becomes a home site in the NCAA opening rounds.
Six players in double figures. Mandy Nightingale carrying the fight from the point (7 assists vs. 2 turnovers. That's a PERFECT 3 to 1 ratio. Sue who? Stacey who?) Jenny Roulier could have had 35 or 40 the way she was shooting. Kate Fagan? Who the heck is Kate Fagan!!!! She was getting it done. Britt Hartshorn comes in and owns the paint. Tera Bjorklund comes in and owns the paint. And give special props to Sabrina Scott. She went 5-for-7 and 11 points.
Team offense and team defense. Even the bench kids came in and did well. Nebraska couldn't make moves against the mop-up crew. I'll bet Colorado could have gotten cheerleaders to outscore Nebraska in the final 4 minutes.
Colorado faithful, you have a team that can do things and will do well.
Now I have to stop writing and apply some calamine lotion. Being this nice to Colorado gave me a rash.
WHAT WORKED FOR NEBRASKA
1. Keasha Cannon. 11-for-15, 25 points, 7 rebounds. Imagine Keasha Cannon on a good team.
WHAT DIDN'T WORK FOR NEBRASKA
1. Getting out of bed
2. Getting off the team bus
3. Actually playing this game.
4. All the usual suspects. Katie Robinette had her 5th foul out of the year (she only had 2 points..She is statistically the worst player of all of last year's High School All-Americans). K.C. Cowgill was her usual self, with is getting worse every game. The same old feckless inside play. Stephanie Jones had her usual productive game after the issue the had long been settled. She is the nation's premier garbage time player I have to admit.
Alexa Johnson was outmanned, and Katie Morse was Katie Morse.
Overall Outlook: The Huskers played last night like a group of college students who found a killer spring break deal at Priceline.com and can't wait to get there.
Paul Sanderford coached like a guy who knows he's getting guaranteed money and he's a lame duck.
The entire team needs to apologize to Keasha Cannon. She's out there giving the effort, while the rest of you are looking forward to Fort Lauderdale.
Next up are the Kansas State Wildcats. I remember hearing that this year someone on campus asked some team members "what are you doing for spring break?"
The Wildcats, "We will still be playing come spring break."
How can my lasses win against a team with attitude? They can't.
The game will be the tube. I'll get to see it. It will interesting to see how much Purple will be in Devaney Sports Center come Sunday.
