What a miserable game with 7 minutes left.

Why is it so low-scoring? Is the tempo slow, are the defenses forcing a lot of turnovers, or are shots just not falling?

Poor shooting, not bad defense, Texas has too many turnovers. Horns are just spooked. Even Heather's shot is off.

We couldn't buy a shot tonight. Good game Texas Tech.

Tech wins Jody coaches to the last second despite down by 12.

Stephens is only Longhorn who played well.

Candi White has big game all around---Jia gets huge steal in last two minutes, Larkin fouls intentionally. Game over!!!!

Hard fought game, not pretty but tough. both teams went to the wire. Tough loss for the Longhorn's. Important win for the Lady Raiders.

Well it wasn't pretty, but we'll take a win any way we can get!

Great game by Candi White tonight. Her offense, Jia's steals and good team defense kept us in the game tonight.

Stacy Stephens had another good game and Kenya Larkin always has a good game against Tech.

I don't think I'll be saving this game tape as one to look back on. That first half was painful.

Beat BU!

Very good swarming defense by both teams...it was hard to even find a shot.

As Coach Sharp would say...Tech did not have a good look on their face in the first half, had trouble finding any sync. 2nd half was a different story...they shot 50 something % and had a season high 79% FT...I guess Coach Conradt decided to poke at our weakness...which has been free throws all season...only to find that tonight for Tech...those same FT's won the game.

Candy White was terrific...her best moment though came when she made those two free throws...her face lit up!

Although it won't show on the stat sheet (except for rebounds), Ellison did a great job inside against Stephens and Schreibner..

Ayers had another double double...15 hard bought points and 11 boards.

Tech got 10 steals...but had 13 TOs (only 4 were steals..the rest were miscommunications)

Hard fought battle...Larkin made some key baskets and Stephens really hung in there..she started getting pretty hot there for a while. Cook pulled down 9 boards. Texas outrebounded Tech by a few.

Those of us behind the team basket got a special nod of thanks from the players and Coach Weese...it isn't just the student section who stands up and makes noise.

Our crowd tonight played a big part in the game...we spent most of the last 5 minutes on our feet yelling out heads off!

Our reward.... now we get to tangle with the Lady Bears in Waco with two of the best players in the country!

I might just watch the second half over and over. I've already watched the second half twice (and the intentional foul over and over and over again). That foul really could have caused some damage physically. Jia landed pretty hard, but got up and had her usual bright smile as always on her face. Good game Ladies. Go Lady Raiders!!

I actally watched almost the whole thing again, less the emotions, and just realized what tough defense and tough shooting both teams had in the first half. There's always so much emotion in these games that I'm not really surprised when physical play is the norm. However, I'm certainly not supportive of being so physical that ANYONE gets hurt. In this case, I was relieved to see Jia getting up after that!

The two teams played an almost identically for about 90% of the entire game, both desparately needing a victory. As bad as UT needed to win, Tech was in even greater need of a victory (given the fact that the game was in Lubbock and that Tech was trying to avoid the first regular-season sweep by UT in ??????? years and at the same time even up the Big XII standings). In the end, that was the difference in one of the UGLIEST games I've seen in a long time.

Too bad for the 'Horns that they could snag a victory in Lubbock on a night where Tech played poorly - - a game where the fans were a non-factor until the last few minutes. What are the chances of that happening again anytime soon? Slim to none!!! We missed our chance, and to Coach Sharp and the Lady Raiders' credit, they kept their poise and executed a few key plays at the end of the game.

As far as people whining about physical play... HELLO -- THIS IS THE BIG XII !!! I'm starting to wonder if there are any former players on this board. If you knew anything about basketball from a player's standpoint, you'd know that hoops is definitely NOT a non-contact sport! Coaches love physical players. That's the way it is, especially when a game holds such significance. Jolee Ayers is a great physical player, as is Stacy Stephens, Amber Tarr, Mercedes Williams, Jia Perkins, Kenya Larkin, and others. Ask their coaches and they'll almost certainly tell you that's one of the things they LOVE about them!

As far as the intentional foul against Perkins goes, I thought it was stupid. Yes, Larkin (or anybody else in that situation) should have committed the foul to try and stop a bucket. But it should not have been so obvious. By the way, anytime you foul somebody to try and stop a score -- THAT'S INTENTIONAL! I do not feel, however, that it was a dirty foul. A dirty foul is intended to hurt someone, and that's not something that JC would ever condone. I, too, was glad that Perkins got up okay and applauded her efforts in scoring, getting up off the floor, and going to the line like a big girl and putting the game out of reach.

Bottom line: It was a very low-quality game (offensively). We both needed a victory but there can only be one winner. Tech out-hustled and out-executed us down the stretch which made them the deserving winners of the game. Anything that transpired during the contest was all a part of the game. So let's stop acting like a bunch of clueless hackers and hurling insults back and forth. It is classless on both sides, and I think we all are better than that. It's one game, there'll be plenty more to come. And like somebody said, as dismal as the last few games have been for both teams (espacially UT), it's really not that bad when we put it in perspective. The conference race - - February Madness-- should only make us all better prepared for the NCAA's March Madness!!! Lighten Up Folks!!!

Other than one thread where a few bad actors said some very stupid things, on both sides, I don't see where anybody else was whining about anything.

What Press said is not whining. These Tech fans just said they are glad Jia didn't get hurt. I agree. I am glad she came up smiling. Maybe RP1 watched that play over and over to see if it really should have been called an intentional foul. I don't really know why he watched it so many times, he didn't say. I don't see a single person on any message in Hoopscoop, other than the stupid one I mentioned above, where anyone said any play or player was dirty or where any insults were hurled.

Some people are reading between the lines and looking for venom where there is none and perhaps attributing words and thoughts that are not there.

About the game, JK you said UT and Tech played the same for 90% of the game. I think these two teams ARE the same. Almost anyway. Tech gets a little bit better guard play and UT gets a little bit better inside play, but they are so darn close its scary. I am just hoping we don't have round three in the Big 12 tournament. I have to sit on the edge of my seat the whole game when these two play and I would personally like to be more comfortable when I watch Tech. Except maybe the championship game would be OK. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I hope we don't end up playing each other again this season. I think twice is enough for me.... I would like to get another chance with KSU and Colorado!

I did hear a brief comment on ESPN this morning about the game. They said "the most intense and heated in-state rivalry in womens college basketball got even more heated last night in Lubbock" and showed the intentional...and of course that appears to be the only play of the game according to our local stations so forgive those of us in Lubbock who are having that play burned into our memories by the media.

I thought it was a hard fought defensive struggle and the first half was bizarre. I thought the 2nd half was much more intersting at least on the Tech side. I was just proud that our team finally was able to make free throws at a time when it was important.

But twice a year is plenty for me...let's put Tech and Texas in different brackets in the tourney!
