I know this is a WBB page, but I think we all love Big 12 women's sports in general. Here is a great page for women's softball and a nice link to a forum page for women's sb fans.

MsProud, I am like SW in that I'm so amazed what Patty and the girls have done with all the ups and downs they have had this year. You know what is really exciting? They only have two seniors on this team, one of which is a starter. Their two best players, Heather Scaglione and Kami Keiter are juniors. And they have a passel full of freshman and sophomores, which bodes very well in the next few years.
I'm looking forward to each game this week, but I know each game will be a battle. It usually is in the WCWS. Kami is the only pitcher we have so if she has a bad game, we lose. And Heather has left every game in Tucson with an ice pack on her foot. But they don't have anything to lose. Go Sooners!

Tell you, the one person who has absolutely shined in the regionals besides Kami Keiter, of course......
is Christina Enea. Her batting was absolutely phenomenal yesterday.

The Field of 8 vying for softball hardware:
1. OU http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ou.gif
2. UCLA
3. LSU
4. Florida State
5. California
6. Michigan
7. Stanford
8. Washington
No team east of Norman, Oklahoma has ever won a softball championship. This is the first time since like 1987 that Arizona is not in the field of 8. Last years's champ: UCLA.
All games televised on ESPN or ESPN2, tourney is double elimination format.
The link, the bracket is a PDF file and may not show Michigan in Region 6 just yet.

Yeah, this prompted me to get cable. I canceled my DIsh a few weeks ago. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Conference breakdown:
PAC 10-4
Big 12-1
ACC-1
SEC-1
Big 10-1
Yes, the PAC 10 still has a hold. Maybe this year someone else will take home the crown.
AZ had 16 straight appearances.
Now, California and UCLA lead with this being their 6th consecutive. Next is OU with 5.

Vickie1ok, we lose 3 players, Katie Overton, Nikki Holt & April Valdez. April Valdez is listed as a junior but there was a problem at DePaul before she transfered and the NCAA ruled she only had 2 years elgibility remaining when she transfered.
The incoming recruits is an outstanding class. The future looks good.

Well I'm in mourning without AZ in the field...being an AZ alum, my loyalty remains.
But if AZ couldn't be there, I was glad to see OU get through...they had me worried there for a while.
UCLA is going to be tough to beat...I really like their pitcher and their 1st base woman...Sua.
So, I'm pulling for OU and UCLA.

Sua is still there? She's one that seems like she's been there forever!!! Ugh...I dread seeing her at the plate when I pulling for the team she's playing against!

I think that's what we are all going to think about Texas pitcher, Cat Osterman.......she's still there? http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/tongue.gif
The thing about the Olympics is that by taking off a year they don't lose any eligibility.
UCLA's pitcher seems like she's been there forever, too...to me that is, she pitched them to a championship last year.
Speaking of Osterman.......
Osterman and Finch combine for perfect game

ok, if that's story is old, I apologize. ah, Jennie Finch....
she graduated from Arizona last year.

Thanks Glenn, I didn't know it was April's last year. But we do have such a good group of young players. By recruits, do you mean freshman next year? That is great news because we are so young as it is.
Another amazing feat about winning the region is Heather's injury. Tony Sellars said on the radio, she would hobble to the bus after each game with an ice pack on her foot.

Jennie actually graduated 2 years ago from AZ...she was volunteer coaching with UofA when they came to visit & destroy Tech. She'll be taking part in the broadcase this weekend.
The duo of Finch and Osterman is intimiating, not to mention Lisa Fernandez thrown in there too.
Osterman spending a year with the US team being coached by Candrea and learning with Finch and Fernandez is going to be a scary addition back into Big 12 softball and probably is not very fair : ( but that's life. A great opportunity for her and a great addition to the US team.
Sua is finally a senior and is Keira Goerl (the terrific pitcher)for UCLA.

Sherri Coale attended the OU WCWS tonight (OU won 6-2) and gave an interview in which she talked about the support OU coaches get from administrators.
Chandler didn't seem to be there with her, though.

As usual, the Seattle Times does a good job of reporting. Note the pop up picture of Heather Scaglione.

Here is a link of Sooner WCWS articles.
There's one from the KC Star on Jessica Leslie that is a good read.
