View Full Version : Just how bad is A&M?

The Aggies had to come from 8 points behind to produce a 4 point win over powerhouse Quinnipiac on a neutral floor. Now that is bad. Not horribly pathetic. But bad.
And Kansas missed an opportunity to post a decent home win over Oregon, but was unable to do it losing 67-60.
These are the two clear cellar dwellers. I think Nebraska and OSU will come up with enough good games to stay ahead of these two teams. And Missouri and K-State should finish at least 7th and 8th.
As a group, the Big 12's top 6 could probably match up with many other conferences top 6. But outside of OU, I really wonder if the Big 12 has another Top 10 team. However, all 6 deserve a Top 20 ranking. Well, at least that's how I see it right now.

Texas A&M beat a team you may find playing in March. Quinnipiac is seen as a contender in the NEC. Having seen both teams, I would be inclined to take QC over TAMU. QC doesn't have the talent, but they are more cohesive attack.
As for the question of does the Big 12 have another top 10 team it must be pointed out that some people believe the conference doesn't have any legitimate top 10 team at all.
I would be inclined to put Iowa State in top 10 as well, given that they've played well against a solid schedule. Contrary to popular belief, ISU is playing a good slate against quality teams. I think some observers, fell their schedule doesn't have the "snob" value because UConn-Tennessee-LaTech axis isn't on it.
My reply to them is....Come to Ames http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
What a wild season its been so far..Lets enjoy it.
Also one more note. I would not be so quick to dismiss the Second Division. Missouri and K-State are not bad teams. Nebraska and Oklahoma State are showing competitiveness. I would still take Kansas and Texas A&M against a lot of major conference backfielders.

Maybe, but more of a longshot they make it. They were 16-13 last year and not favored to win their own conference, the Northeast conference. We're talking about a team that was 313th in the RPI last year and they lost their best player.
The Aggies are bad.

Agree with that. I've already posted the same thoughts on another thread.

I'm not dismissing the 7th and 8th team in conference. I'm simply ranking them relative to everyone else in conference. Being 7th and 8th means they will likely step up and knock someone off in the upper-echelon of the conference. MU and KSU are solid WNIT teams in my opinion.
I would still take Kansas and Texas A&M against a lot of major conference backfielders.
Depends on who exactly you are talking about. But I likely would bet against KU or TAMU. I don't mean to spit venom here, I just haven't seen the bottom of this conference look so bad in a couple of years.

Who in the country besides Connecticut and Tennessee have really set themselves apart yet? There are many teams challenging for the top 20 but most of them have weaknesses and look beatable at this point in the season. Tenn beat #8 ranked NC St by 40 points today. Duke, with 2 losses to relatively unheralded teams, beat La Tech. We all know about the struggles of Texas Tech, a preseason top 10. Yes, OU beat Purdue but the rest of the schedule has been unremarkable. So, OU looks good but have they really been tested much yet? ISU and Texas both entered the weekend with top 10 RPI ratings (that will change when Texas plays Lamar and SW Texas this week).

well, they do have a good volleyball team. Don't keep up with volleyball, but looks like both Nebraska and Texas A & M are the 2 Big 12 teams left standing....surprised they both had to play a Big 12 team to advance, though.

The Volleyball pairing were localized due to concerns over travel security in the wake the September 11th terrorist attacks against the United States.
The NCAA wanted to limit air travel as much as possible and tried to keep teams within a 400-mile radius at least.
The downside is, that it caused certain highly seeded team to have to go on the road. Hawaii, for example had to play their first round games at Washington. Nebraska had to play their first round games at Kansas State in order to avoid having Oral Roberts and Arkansas flying.
In the regional rounds the restrictions will be relaxed. The highest seeded teams will get the home games..
GOOD LUCK http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/nu.gif GOOD LUCK http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/tamu.gif
And a good luck to Northern Iowa...BEAT LONG BEACH STATE!!!
Let them have the BeachBabes...I'LL TAKE MY FARM GIRLS!!!!!!

Sigh. Texas A&M has been a big stumbling block this year for Texas Soccer and Volleybal.
I forgot Stanford as a team that is really separating itself from the pack.

right now...why quibble over it? To me, UConn and Tennessee are good teams but they can be had, too. I see Oklahoma beating UConn, but they have to play a great outside game to do it and defensively they have get down and dirty with UConn. Make UConn break a well-manicured fingernail. Force them off their game, and make them slug it out.
On the Tennessee side. This team is like a fine Italian sports car. It's a screamer, when it runs. But the Lady Vols are prone to breakdowns, they will make mistake because of their youth. Take advantage of them you beat them.
Stanford. Well coached, well schooled, but Oklahoma showed last year, if you force them to that slap leather with you in an athletic game, they will fall short. They are Iowa State West in someways.
At this point in the season, its to early to think about RPI all tournament placement. I've always said:
WIN AS MANY GAMES AS YOU CAN, AND THE RPI TAKES CARE OF ITSELF http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
