Do you have a scouting report on Cyclone freshman Brittany Wilkins from her Nebraska high school days? Someone asked about Brittany on Bill Fennelly's call-in show. She had knee surgey in the fall and has been practicing for only about a month and will definitely redshirt. Fennelly seemed very excited about her progress, and thinks that Wilkins and freshman Lisa Kreiner have brights futures.
I think Katie Robinette is going to be a good Big 12 player, but like most freshmen, is having her ups and downs. I thought she played well against ISU in their last matchup. I thought the key to that game was Iowa State being tied at halftime with Angie Welle only playing six minutes because of foul trouble.

I too have a question for Chipper. Please remind me, again, why you call Steph Jones "Charo"

Brittany Wilkins....6'3" center/forward Arlington HS
Britt is a real Q-ship. She doesn't look like she can play, then after the game's over you notice she has 25 points, 15 rebounds.
That was Brittany kind of night in HS play. Her abilities grew exponentially each year. That's the kind of growth in game you want, and her team wasn't the best team in the class. There were team that did things better and had more talent. But her improvement in many games closed the gap. During the championship run as a junior, that was all her weekend. She dominated games, the paint was controlled, and opened the door for her team. Her senior year she played with a ton of confidence and really keep a team that should not have achieved what they did in contention to win the state championship again.
I'm surprised that Brittany ended up in the Big 12. She had Missouri Valley written all over her. (She would definitely be a solid player for Creighton or Drake for example). I didn't necessarily see a Big 12 type of talent, but in Bill Fennelly's system, you never know. There's a lot of upside to her and the biggest thing about her is, she always smiles when she's on the floor.
Strengths: Her post moves. She got solid footwork and a good sense of where she needs to be to get rebounds and to get in position for good shots. Also, this kid is stronger than her frame suggests, she jumps well and can box out good.
Brittany's wingspan borders on scary. She can block a shot to hell and gone with those arms. I've seen her do it, its not a pretty sight.
Weaknesses: Needs to continue to get in better trim to battle inside in this conference. She is good, but not where she needs to be yet. Ballhandling is a issue. She's got rough spots in dribbling and passing.
Overall: Brittany has a key advantage. She has Angie Welle to learn from, and Britt and some solid things to work with. She gonna be alright, and again, there is that smile.
About Robinette: She's had a solid year for an average freshman. 9 points, 6 boards a game is a respectable first year effort. My only contention is that given her celebrity, more was expected, and she didn't live up to it.
In her defense, Katie is learning a different offense and she's really playing out of position. KR is more of a swingman 2-3 than the 4 role that Westmorelanderford has her playing.
I hope that a new coach can perhaps give her a new direction. I would hate to look up three years from now and find her in a different uniform doing what I know she can do.
About "Charo": Stephanie Jones is blond and a big bust. Thus she's "Charo"
I figured it would be less insulting than "Morganna"
