View Full Version : Technicals

There were several technicals given during these games. Portland got one last night...I missed it.
The UCLA coach got one and a couple of other coaches over the weekend. The announcers were often so busy discussing important things like the players socks that I never got an explanation. I don't know what they said, but none of them were rocketing along, they weren't out on the court, they weren't yelling on and one.
However in the Baylor game, KMR went ballistic over a call that gave the ball to Florida. The official was trying to set up the inbound and literally had his arm up holding KMR off. There on the sidelines was the Florida player, the ref with his arm up keeping KMR at bay.
I'm not picking on KMR but in my book that was worth a technical. She was inteferring with the continuation of the game and she was screaming at the official.
I don't understand how some of the other calls could be technicals and this was not. However, I did not see what happened with PSU.

The worst (in terms of impact on the outcome of the game) was the Southwest Missouri coach getting a technical with about 3 minutes left against Notre Dame. Notre Dame won (on their home court) in overtime. Without the free throws Notre Dame scored on that technical, SMS would (probably) have won the game!
The SMS coach has to feel awful.

I believe the KMR play that bballgirl refers to was not protesting a call, but being really, really pissed off at Jessika Stratton for stepping out of bounds. Kim played the game with extreme passion and coaches the same way. A lot of folks don't like that, I personally do. I do think many times it appears she's riding the officials (and she certainly does do that) when she's actually riding the players.

Agree with bosley...KMR was really peeved at Stratton for stepping out of bounds. It took me a minute to realize that, but I really think the refs would've given her a T had it been directed at them. I actually could hear KMR's voice saying something about "Jess."

I also think the play you refer to is the one where Jess did step out of bounds. You should have seen what I did in my recliner. My wife almost had to give me a tech.
I love coach Kim's passion. Keep up the good work.

If I remember right that play was toward the end of the game when Baylor was trying to run a little time off the clock. Stratton lost the dribble out of bounds off her foot it looked like. KMR voiced and showed her displeasure toward Stratton with the turnover.
The ball came to KMR on the sideline which she picked up and tried to dribble herself, the result was about the same as Stratton's just a moment before. If those two watched the replay later they probably had to chuckle over the whole ordeal.

Jess stepped out of bounds. She didn't dribble off of her foot.
I don't think what I saw was an attempt to dribble by Kim. Kim slammed the ball to the floor in disgust. That could have gotten her a T maybe. I would have yelled at Jess myself. Actually, I did. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

You've re-capped it exactly, Zo. The play happened right in front of me. You also probably heard the reaction from the loyal Lobo fans when Kim made her ball slam.
