Now way Stephens and Hayden deserve higher mention than Wecker and Christon -- NO WAY!!!

Hayden?! Are they serious?

How Sophia Young is not on any of those teams is beyond me.
And Chandi Jones is better than pretty much everyone on the 1st team. Lazy media.

Swap Hayden with Wecker and I'd bet the 2nd team could take the 1st team 7 out of 10.

I was just about to go back and change my post to say "And where in the HECK is Sophia Young?"

If some of those on the list are All-Americans, then Sophia Young is ALL-WORLD!!!!

Congrats, Nicole! Congrats, Stacy! Congrats, Kendra!

Hayden? . . . someone has been drinking way too much swamp juice!

No offense to any of the players....

but, I don't think we saw the Hayden that has played all year last night.

I've seen her play many, many, many times. I've followed her since her freshman season, and I think she's a GREAT player. But I still say no way she deserves higher mention than Wecker or Christon. IMO...It's all politics and B.S.

CONGRATS TO ALL NONETHELESS!

perhaps not, Swok, but after seeing her in the 2 Baylor games and also up against New Mexico, I can't think there were a lot of hidden gems that she had for the full season but which failed to show up in these 3 games. Yes, she has moments. But her endurance is sorely lacking. It's hard to imagine how she could step it up for more substantial minutes in games throughout the season to achieve markedly different results. Think her size is most intimidating, even to the esteemed group which selected the AA teams. Size, she does have. But she's not quick. Given so many athletic teams in the SEC, it's also hard for me to imagine how she may have stayed in games for sufficient minutes without committing excessive fouls that would enable her to be the 'force' that I envision AA-caliber players have. Unless, of course, she knocked all the opponents down and sat on them, like she did to Chelsea last night. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

The yearly Bert Convy exercise of the AP.
First Team
Alana Beard -- Agree
Diana Taurasi -- disagree, should be 2nd team this year
Kelly Mazzante -- agree
Nicole Powell -- agree
Nicole Ohlde -- agree

Second Team
Chandi Jones -- agree, but is the best of the second teamers, possibly a first teamer.
Shereka Wright -- agree
Lindsay Whalen -- had she not been injured, she's a shoo-in first teamer and perhaps player of the year.
Stacy Stephens -- disagree, honorable mention
Vanessa Hayden -- disagree, honorable mention

Third Team
Kendra Wecker -- disagree, should be at least second team
Seimone Augustus -- agree
Shameka Christon -- disagree, should be at least second team but I can understand why she isn't. Good player/bad team.
Shyra Ely -- agree
Cappie Pondexter disagree strongly, her play was good, but All-American good is an oversell.

She averaged 29.2 minutes a game in conference plays....
averaged 3 fouls per game and a double-double...

These awards are a numbers game.

Ya'll will get a kick out of this. The Boneyard folks cannot fathom why Taurasi was not UNANIMOUS AA. Talk about silly. They want to know exactly WHO wouldn't vote for her on 1st team (i've been poking at them of late as '2frickinpoints'):

Fear and Loathing in the Boneyard! (http://www.connecticut.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=1367&tid=33127960&sid=&style=2)

JohnHenry, I'm going to have to keep a catalog of your usernames. So, 2frickenpoints, you are the one who got the NM Lobo fans all in a tizzy and mad when they thought you were a Texas Tech fan disrespecting their team on the Boneyard.

I had to straighten 'em out, of course. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Oh, and I see you got the HuskyNan warning. I got a much sterner warning than that from her earlier this year and I was just being my usual nice, polite and humble self. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

As was I, or so I thought. Apparently my crime was posting the words, "get over yourselves". Then some other posters took Nan's warning as a cue and attacked.

It's almost aggy-like; they've been hitting the Geno Kool-Aid pretty hard, it seems, and will brook NO disaggreement when it comes to Diana.

Notice that the most disparaging thing I said about her was that she was (imo) 2nd team AA, and that it was possible for a few AP voters to credibly believe that 5 other players had a better year. HERESY! I'll be burned at the stake shortly... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ah, well - amusing stuff on a slow day at the office...

Well, JohnHenry, that was my first visit to the Boneyard. Thanks for posting the links--I guess?!? Although I don't ever want to take part in anything UConn.

What a bunch of dweebs...unable to give it up that there are other players who just MIGHT be deserving other than their precious DT. I agree with you that they need to get over themselves! You go, JohnHenry!

HOOK 'EM!

Now you I know why never post at the Boneyard, and why I like Hoopscoop.

They are a "fan" site, and that's okay. But Hoopscoop is a discussion site. You can say what you want, but you have to be able to back it up and defend it.

Although I find it darn funny. When that Texas-UConn game happens, you have to make the trip JohnHenry! These yankees folks need a dose of down-home Texas arrogance http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

but you don't like Hoopscoop enough to give us your version of the "stay in state to play" posting found on another site?

LOL Someone (I wonder who) sent me a copy - Post it here too!

I'll be perfectly honest here. I'm a Sooner fan through and through, but Texas arrogance kind of fits my style of sports enthusiasm.

It's only when it is for a futile cause that it seems out of place. (read OU-TX football)

I have been a Lindsay Whalen booster, fan, etc. almost from the very first. No player has EVER done so much for their team as she has done. And it is not just what she does on the floor.

She is in large measure responsible for the great group of freshmen recruits that they have. When BFO left, it was Whalen who got on the phone and told them to hang on, that things were going to work out. She was right.

She is almost singlehandedly responsible for the move to the barn, and the thousands of people who are there tonight.

As Chipper says, "perhaps player of the year", I agree wholeheartedly. If she played in the EAST, she could have been.
http://www.citypages.com/databank/25/1211/article11895.asp One of many great Whalen stories. It almost captures her.

Look closely, I think that's a ... yes, it IS a smile! http://www.startribune.com/stonline/images/news64/uwom0316w.l.jpg

Diana Taurasi won the Naismith today...the Boneyard should be celebrating.

Wecker is definately 2nd team if not 1st team in my book. Glad to see the support for Christon. She's a terrific player and I know Coach Blair hated to leave her at Arkansas.

Remember..they have Diana and we don't (course that's only for a couple more weeks) so we can't possibly understand how it's such an honor just to be in the same arena with her.... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Sorry it's been a long day...but Diana is terrific player who's not had the best year in the world. ESPN has a story called something like Can D save the WNBA.

When Lindsay Whalen does for Minnesota what Sheryl Swoops did for Texas Tech, give me a ring.

She's the player that lit the ignitor on my current passion for women's basketball. Lindsay is a great player, but Sheryl changed the future of the sport for all time.

Even my dad, who was generally skeptical of women's basketball in general, told me that she was one of the best basketball players, men's or women's, that he'd ever seen.

I was already a believer.

Excuse me ya'll, but tonight the winningest players in Big Ten history became the Purdue Boilermaker's seniors with 113 victories. And how did a team with a 6-0 center go 29-3 and make it to the Sweet 16? Just because of Shereka Wright who is the most underrated and unrecognized player in the country. Her stats are as good or better than any team in the country, but all she does is win!!

Don't think "team" was the word you meant. Wright is a good player but I'd rather watch Whalen play.

I completely agree with you, and Purdue will get their chance to show the whole country how good they are next week.

I think a lot of Shereka getting passed over is a mix of three things.

1. Wright is a steady player, but not necessarily a gamebreaker. She solid and gives you good performance, but she gets lost in the shuffle when put next to players like Alana Beard and Diana Taurasi, who provide some "highlight" moments.

2. Purdue plays with a very strong team concept, just like Texas. Nobody has the stellers numbers that leap out at you, but everybody does their part and the Boilermakers keep on keepin' on.

3. Unfortunately we don't have a consistently strong network of coverage of the game among the national press, or even the regional press. The only time you year about Shereka Wright is tournament time. During the season, not a peep in the national press, and to an extent not as much press even in Indiana.
The Indianapolis Star would give more column inches to what Chip Ganassi had for breakfast than the 25 point Shereka dropped on Penn State.
When that situation changes up, then player like Wright and so many other will get their just propers.

Excuse me ya'll but in four seasons Stephens and her teammates
have accounted for 101 victorys, winning 52 out of their last 58
35 Home court winning sreak and 3 Sweet 16 appearences!Yes Stacy
stats were down, but day in and day out she covered the opposition tallest and strongest center. She was doubled and
sometime tripled teamed every game! 6-0 tall who led her team
4 consecutive years in rebounding and scoring in Big 12 conference!Honorable Mentioned All American is an opinion I
STRONGLY Disagree with!! Have a great evening everyone!!!

I know this will make all of you "scream, jump, and rant," but I don't think Nicole should be a 1st-Teamer. She can't play a physical game...at all. It's good thing they determined the awards before the Minnesota game.....
