View Full Version : ISU gets comfortable win over Idaho State
Winning 72-59, Iowa State led 45-35 at halftime while shooting about 58% in the first half, and 50% on threes. ISU got much more bench help than Idaho State, with 36 bench points to 19.
ISU shot nearly 52% from the field for the game, and almost 41% from beyond the arc.
When do they play the next game in Ames?

Is this game in the land of the Haunted Hilton?

My fault swok I should of stated where the game is to be played in my earlier post. Yes, it is at Hilton.
The ISU men won tonight as well, so it'll probably be another doubleheader at Hilton. ISU managed to sell 12,500 tickets to this one on three days' notice, so we'll see what they can do on two...

Another double-header in Hilton Friday - Miami for WBB, Florida State for MBB. Mred,Ronhovde shot 4-6 3's. Does she still have a chance for a record? Also, do you know why Wilkins is seeing such limited time in recent games? She was 2-2 in six minutes tonight.
Ronhovde now needs 3 threes to tie the ISU freshman record. Medders was tied for the ISU freshman assist record, so she now has that record outright.
I have no idea what's up with Wilkins. However, Kriener had a great game and maybe Fennelly just wanted to stay with her.
Apparently the men will be playing at FSU, so no doubleheader.

Yesterday Wilkins time was cut somewhat short in the first half due to two quick fouls. She then really struggled offensively catching the ball and guarding on the defensive end. ISU for one of the first times in the Fennelly era played predominately man to man defense and Wilkins had a hard time guarding out on the floor as Idaho St. spread the floor and moved their post players out high.

Last night was awesome. It was great to see the Cyclones play a true man-to-man defense. Plus they had success with it, who knew?! (Memo to Bill, use that again in the future....PLEASE!)
I was a little disappointed that we aren't doing another double-header on Friday night (actually a lot disappointed). But after thinking about it on my drive to school, I realized that ISU had hosted 3 NIT games in a row dating back to last season, so it was only natural to have to go on the road for a game. Plus I think FSU threw a ton of money at the NIT committee. ;-) It will be difficult for me though as a FSU grad. I won't root against the Seminoles but I will root for Iowa State.
Okay, off now to do research on Miami (Ohio).
Was the doubleheader last night a "one admission-two events" kind of deal? I was looking at the boxscore for the women's game and there was no attendance credited.
I believe that the NCAA has a policy of not crediting attendance to the women's game if it is a bundled ticket doubleheader with a men's game, unless the women's game is the second game and the arena is emptied after the first game. Then they use turnstile for the attendance of those who re-enter to watch the game.

Attendance last night was 12,196. The game was part of a double-header with the men. I'd say there were a good 9 to 10 thousand people there for the majority of the women's game.
It's a shame that the ISU women don't get credit for the attendance, but that's the NCAA for you... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif

I didn't think that the NCAA officially tracks attendance, that it was done from the U of Wisconsin. I think that schools just submit the numbers and they go with them. I know there are some major discrepancies between schools wh are using turnstile count vs paid attendance, especially at schools that use PSL and make people buy them for both men and women. (such as Ohio State)

I have read that Ohio State only counts people in the seats...not PSLs. The previous coaches did count paid attendance.

According to the Des Moines Register, this is the first time in Fennelly's nine years at ISU that they have used predominately man-to-man in a game. Fennelly joked that the roughly 35 minutes of man-to-man they played against Idaho State was more than they played in the rest of this season's games combined. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
I agree that ISU should use man-to-man more often. It's just one more "junk" defense in Fennelly's arsenal. I like ISU to have the ability to tailor its defense to the players on the court at all times, and a man-to-man defense is often the best defense for the occasion. It also makes preparing for games against ISU a nightmare. It's already hard enough to guess what defense ISU will throw out there...
According to Richard M. Campbell, NCAA Assistant Director of Statistics, they've been collecting attendance for quite some time.
NCAA women's attendance was compiled for the first time in 1982 and overall attendance in the three divisions has increased every year since 1984. Net home attendance also includes any doubleheader games with the men's teams as long as attendance is counted by halftime of the women's game.
