Before getting to the results, it should be mentioned that when I posted the results for Session 15, I also mentioned the "rules of the game", and said that they were on the Hoopla! board.
Well, the next day I went looking for those rules, and didn't find them, much to my chagrin. In fact, I looked all over the place for ANY rules for this game, and found none.
So under those circumstances - and if someone finds otherwise let me know - I decided to use the following principles for the final standings of the Pick'em Game.
It wouldn't be fair to simply say that the person that picked the most winners wins, because for many different reasons a person might not be able to make their picks, ranging from being hospitalized, to their computer getting fried, to travel, or various other reasons. So I arbitrarily decided that if a person had submitted picks for more than three-fourths of the games, they would be eligible to be ranked in the final standings.
That may be a bit too lenient, but without any set rules I felt being a little lenient was the right thing to do. It should be mentioned that the top 3 of the overall standings made every pick of every session, and the top 21 in the final standings picked <at least[/i] 16 full sessions out of 17. Out of the next 13 in the standings, 5 made picks in all sessions, 5 picked in 16 sessions, 2 picked in 15 sessions, and 1 picked in 14 sessions. The participation dropped rapidly after than. In other words, none of the highest rankings included anyone who missed more than one session.
I'd like to propose a set of rules for next year that should be fair to everyone, including people who might join the game a week or two late. I think we should allow everyone to use only their best 15 sessions in their rankings next year. That way if you miss a session or two, you are not penalized, but if you enter all 17 sessions, you have the privilege of dropping your two worst session scores. If everyone agrees, I think that's the way it should go next year.
Anyway, here are the results for Session 17 and the final standings. And congratulations to Cyclones Rule, the overall champion this year. carolann and Jimi were second and third, two and three games back, respectively. This is carolann's second straight year in second place.
And major thanks to everyone that participated this year. This year we once again had a record number of entrants in the game.
