Nebraska had a 7 pm start Wednesday night against Baylor, and the Husker lasses showed up at 8 pm on the dot.
In the first half, Nebraska had more turnovers than points. Not a single player did anything offensively the entire first half.
Baylor was unsettled in the first half, but continued to set up layup after layup. It was 38-17 after a half.
In the second half, The Husker finally woke up, but still played poorly until Baylor brought in the mop-up units, the score actually looked respectable as a 74-62 final. But Nebraska scored it final 22 points when none of the Baylor starters where on the court. Like I said, You get no points for beating Callista Flockhart in an eating contest
WHAT WORKED FOR NEBRASKA
Stephanie "Charo" Jones....7-for-11, 16 points, yeah 12 were in the second half, but even during the first half, she was about the only kid that was battling, and Paul Sanderfraud gave her the short hook. I've been on Charo's case on year, but the kid needs to be on the floor more than an average of 17 minutes. According to game reports she was battling illness tonight. SO WHAT. An ill Stephanie Jones is better than "Charo Jr."
WHAT DIDN'T WORK FOR NEBRASKA
This is one long list.
1. Katie "Charo Jr." Robinette.....She has got to be the worst High School All-American in the history of the sport right now. This is her THIRD game where she has failed to score this year.
0 no points, 5 fouls, 5 turnovers.
It is official. Katie Robinette, my dear YOU ARE A BUST!
2. The Three Guard Alignment....It would be nice if Nebraska actually had three guards. Two of never play well, one didn't play well tonight.
--Keasha Cannon. 5-for-17, 0-for-6 from the three point line. Had the ball stolen from her 5 times. Still scored 10 points and 8 rebounds, but in the first half her errant passes and poor shooting killed us. Some of that had to do with Baylor impressive defense, but Cannon wasn't a leader tonight
-- K.C. Cowgill. A solid game 2-for-3 from the three point line. But all of it was after the issue was decided. For the first 10 minutes...she took a single shot, and defensively? well we already she is a poor defensive player.
-- Shannon Howell...Took her most of the first half to get her shooting together. 9 points, 5 assists, and she did attack the basket, when Lambert wasn't in the game. She did her best work against bench people after the issue was decided.
3. The Post Play.
Nebraska has three post players. All of them 6-2 or taller. All of them played kind of feeble, and got outplayed by a true freshman.
Can anybody rebound except Keasha Cannon and Stephanie Jones.
Alexa Johnson tries, but the girl is just too light in the butt to play that spot. She's a 3 trying to play the 5 (kind of like Robinette).
Katie Morse actually played 9 minutes? Paige Sutton actually played 9 minutes? Nebraska must be really desperate to play these two.
4. Paul Sanderfraud...Its bad enough that you can't motivate this team. Its bad enough that you can't come up with a coherent strategy. Its bad enough that you are still employed.
But that cheap rinky-dink technical when you are down 20?? You've been Coach Catatonic all year, why grow an intense streak when your team has already phoned the game in?
And what happened to "limiting the rotation"? Everybody played tonight, but then again that usually happens in uncompetitive games.
Overall Outlook: I expected us to lose, I didn't expect us to give up for 18 minutes. Never mind the fight that was shown in the second half, I can't forget the ineptitude of the first half.
Its great that they made the agate type look good, but this stinks. When will Nebraska ever put together two quality halves of basketball in the same game?
Mr. Sanderford, we're waiting to hear this week's excuse.
Next up is Missouri at home.
