Uconn is still getting 1st place votes? I'd love to know who is still voting them at #1. That's insane.

5 of the top 16 are Texas teams.
Wow.
About what I expected in the Top Five and Top 10. As a Houstonian, not to be disloyal or unappreciative of U of H's season thus far, but NO WAY are they better than CU, Baylor or OU -- NOW WAY.

This poll is wierd...Florida beat Auburn yesterday and they are ranked.
Here's another little tidbit that I bet no one's thought about...
LA Tech's RPI is 32 with SOS of 141. The SOS of the top 6 Big XII teams COMBINED: 142.

There is a good chance that next week the Big 12 could have six teams in the top 16 of the polls, which would be an extremely good omen for the chances of that many teams getting NCAA seedings higher than #5.

Hopefully the NCAAs are looking at the RPI and locking Texas in for a #1 seed. Removing LA Tech who has played Boise State...KState and maybe Tech should be in the running for a #2 seed. UH and TCU have done a great job, but I wonder if the committee will be willing to give them #3 seeds ahead of CU, Baylor or OU. Potentially the Big 12 could be looking at the top 6 all being 4 seeds at the very lowest.
Leaves some room for Mizzou and ISU.

Totally agree with you, JK. Chandi Jones is phenomenal, but Cougar High would NEVER beat Baylor, Colorado or Oklahoma.

Don't forget about the Huskers. Should they beat Colorado Wednesday night their chances to making the NCAA tourney increase ten-fold.

Yep, yep...I knew I forgot a team....what a cool deal it would be for the Huskers to be there. Got a better record than ISU and MU right now and with a RPI of 47...could be.
Don't forget that with the uranium-weighted top 6 of the Big 12 all in the top 17, those other teams that are near .500 in conference play will all get serious looks because of the competition ahead of them. There is an excellent chance of the Big 12 getting 7 teams into the NCAA tournament this year, and it won't all be because of the performance of the top 6.
In 2002 going into the NCAA tournament the Big 12 had only 5 teams in the top 16 but received 7 bids out of the top 16. And after the NCAA tournament the Big 12 had all 7 of those teams ranked in the top 15.
At least two of the Big 12 teams were knocked out of the NCAA's by other Big 12 teams, because OU knocked Texas Tech and Colorado out in the West regional semis and championship game.

Imagine that, UConn only drops to #3.

Not that I care, but that's just dumb. We beat 2 top 15 teams and don't get a single first place vote, while UConn loses to an unranked team (for the 2nd time), and they along with 2 teams we've beaten stay ahead of us. Strange. I thought surely we'd get some coaches' votes for first.
Let's face it, rightly or wrongly a lot of coaches out there think that UConn, Tennessee and Duke are the Big 2+1 in women's basketball right now. It isn't within their brain processes to easily handle not ranking those 3 at the top, whether it's right or wrong.
Until the Big 12 crowns a national champion we will get that kind of disrespect in some form. We've only had a couple of teams get to the Final Four in the conference's existence, despite the fact that UT and Tech both have NC's on their resumes.
Hopefully this year will be the year that the conference knocks down that door, and then it will be that much harder for the media and coaches to treat us like just any other conference in the future. My dream would be for three Big 12 teams in the Final Four. That would fix this problem once and for all.
And it certainly isn't out of the question that it could happen this year, although the odds are high that it won't happen.
OK, just two teams then, and a national title.

Rightly or wrongly? This is a Big XII WBB message board. You don't need to be diplomatic. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Nebraska will make the tourney. But ISU? and Missouri? No way, unless one of them accidentally wins the Big XII Tournament.
