Why should someone who has put thousands of hours, years of practice, thousands of dollars for camps and tournaments and trips and shoes and shorts and shoes etc. into basketball have to be happy with sitting on the bench. Kids should not have to sit out a year if they transfer. Coaches lie, brainwash, then treat kids like crap when they decide to leave. They also brainwash kids into thinking they are going to play, and play alot if they just "trust" them, in order to keep them from redshirting. Then when they arent used as much as they were led to believe they would be everyone acts like they should just grow up and learn to be a team player.
I admire those kids who get out and find someplace where their talents are appreciated. Why should they have to go to college an extra year. Too bad there is not a way to get coaches to be honest with players and parents, but the fact is they lie brainwash and treat defectors like dirt. The kid is then penalized by having to go to school an extra year or even two.

Actually my post should have been a reply to the post on Pressure for Playing Time. It is personal, but coaches have big bucks and if you say anything, even on line you will probably hear from their lawyer.

I have no reason to doubt the validity of your post Sanken, I do think that you have made some very broad accusations. I'm sure there are programs that have done and continue to do the very things you talk about, but their are other programs that are ethical and honest in what their recruits can expect and what is expected of them. Sports programs along with most other things in life have to set guidelines and boundries that protect the majority because of the offenses of a few. Do some athletes who were mislead by unethical recruiting suffer as a result? I'm sure they do. That doesn't mean that the solution is to throw out the current rule. It is my opinion that it would be a terrible mistake and lead to greater abuse by both student athletes and recruiters.

I agree......doesn't it take most college kids 5 years to graduate anyway?

I agree that the transfer rules serve a vital purpose, but I would like to see an exception made. When a school commits an NCAA violation sufficient to cause them to be disqualified from postseason play I would like to see the players be released from the transfer rules. I think in fact such a sanction would be among the most feared by schools and one that would be fairer to student athletes. The NCAA should have the athletes best interests at heart. I am not sure they always do, and I have ZERO faith in the sense or judgement of President Miles Brand.
