Oklahoma defeated Wichita State 89-68. First thing that comes to mind about this game is how physical it was. There may be quite a few Big 12 games OU will play that won't be this physical. Talbert took some forearm shivers - one at midcourt that laid her out on her back with a no-call from the ref. I thought there might be a lynch mob from the crowd go after that ref after that no-call. Even some hair-pulling - Dales had her braid stripped from her head on one play. She also jammed either her third or fourth finger and had to go to the locker room while in some big-time pain, but she returned.
The first 10 minutes of this game was a thing of beauty by the Sooners. The longest such spurt on the season and they quickly led 24-11. The teams basically traded baskets for the most part the rest of the way with WSU coming within 7 at one point 38-31. WSU cut the lead to 43-33 right after half-time, but OU quickly ballooned the lead and coasted to the victory. Caufield looked downright awesome on several plays late in the 2nd half. One with a steal, fast break down the court and a spin move right around a defender to lay in for 2. That brought people to their feet.
Selmon improved some and is giving the team quality minutes. She made a couple of monster rebounds late in the game. Jackson continues to impress off the bench. She played just 24 minutes this game but had 10 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and just 1 turnover. That's better than just solid contribution from a freshman - that's superb play. Her rebounding impressed me tonight. She's only 5'9", but it's amazing what athleticism buys ya!
OU rests for 6 days before taking on SMU, at SMU. I'm hoping to travel to that game. Should be another good game. Butler has been the only real creampuff the Sooners have faced. Although Tulsa and Oral Roberts are almost in that category, but not really.
