Oklahoma defeated Wichita State 89-68. First thing that comes to mind about this game is how physical it was. There may be quite a few Big 12 games OU will play that won't be this physical. Talbert took some forearm shivers - one at midcourt that laid her out on her back with a no-call from the ref. I thought there might be a lynch mob from the crowd go after that ref after that no-call. Even some hair-pulling - Dales had her braid stripped from her head on one play. She also jammed either her third or fourth finger and had to go to the locker room while in some big-time pain, but she returned.

The first 10 minutes of this game was a thing of beauty by the Sooners. The longest such spurt on the season and they quickly led 24-11. The teams basically traded baskets for the most part the rest of the way with WSU coming within 7 at one point 38-31. WSU cut the lead to 43-33 right after half-time, but OU quickly ballooned the lead and coasted to the victory. Caufield looked downright awesome on several plays late in the 2nd half. One with a steal, fast break down the court and a spin move right around a defender to lay in for 2. That brought people to their feet.

Selmon improved some and is giving the team quality minutes. She made a couple of monster rebounds late in the game. Jackson continues to impress off the bench. She played just 24 minutes this game but had 10 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and just 1 turnover. That's better than just solid contribution from a freshman - that's superb play. Her rebounding impressed me tonight. She's only 5'9", but it's amazing what athleticism buys ya!

OU rests for 6 days before taking on SMU, at SMU. I'm hoping to travel to that game. Should be another good game. Butler has been the only real creampuff the Sooners have faced. Although Tulsa and Oral Roberts are almost in that category, but not really.

Since I live 5 min. from SMU, I think I'll go over and watch that game and root for the Sooners!

Yep, I'm planning on going.
I'm trying to get some friends who have never been to an OU women's game (or probably any college WBB game) to go with me as well.
Big12bear, are you going?

swok is going...planning on taking the bus trip, though in the event it doesn't happen, I'm riding down with someone....

wow, what a game that was last night. A Southwest Missouri fan on the ESPN board yesterday afternoon told me to watch the coach or the "man in black".....and let him know what I thought of Wichita State.......hmmmmmm, he neglected to tell me that the entire conference calls this team, "Darryl and the Thugettes".
This guy yells at the players, at the assistant coaches, at the refs.......thought he was going after the "ruf-neks" there for a minute.....backyard street ball, that's what this game looked like to me, especially the start of the 2nd half.

OU looked absolutely superb.. the first 8 minutes have to be the finest basketball I've ever seen them play. The made their first 10 shots and Stacey made some beautiful passes.....Jamie Talbert is like the "quiet" contender....though not sure that her defense is a stat you find on the charts.....they did let a WS player pull away with 18 rebounds, though overall they won the board battle......Sure is good to see Caton back with double boards last night and no "unintelligent" fouls on her part.

I forget sometimes how quick OU is, several times I've seen them "outrun" an opponent for a loose ball.

Coach Smith is the vilest and dirtiest coach in America. He teaches his players to play that "street ball" style and to be overly physical on the court..going to extremes most of the time. Over the 3 years that he has coached against SMS, he tried just about everything in the book to take Jackie out...from having his players go after her knees to having them constantly bump, hit, trip, and forearm her after the whistle blows and the ref isn't looking. Plus, just as you said swok, he yells at his players in a way I've never heard a coach yell. He screams obscenities at them and sometimes just about turns purple during timeouts, saliva spewing all over the place. I don't see how any parent would let their daughter play for him (although his own daughter plays for WSU..lol). Add all this to the fact that he wears all black at almost every game, and its easy to see why he has become the most disliked coach in the MVC and the #1 target of opposing fans wherever he goes. Here, a lot of the fans chant "Daaaaaaaaaryl......Daaaaaaaaaaryl......Daaaaaaaryl" at different points in the game when he gets riled. Glad to see the Sooners came out of the game with no major injuries. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I don't understand how he gets anyone to play for him, especially with Oklahoma and ?Kansas being such big NAIA basketball states......though guess you get more perks with Division I....
