Colorado (10-1) defeated an out manned Syracuse (3-5) 80-45 Tuesday night in Boulder. The writing appeared to be on the wall for this game when it was announced before the game that the Orangewomen would only have seven players available for the game due to academic suspensions.

The game started out with Syracuse effectively controlling the Buffs by putting the clamps on the Buffs’ Tera Bjorklund and Kate Fagan. While limiting the touches of these two the Orangewomen were able to use their Villanova like perimeter game to effect by hitting open treys. At the 6:51 mark of the first half the game was tied at 20 when the Buffs went on a 19-5 run to take a 39-25 lead into the half. The Buffs’ Kate Fagan topped the run off by hitting two straight 3-pointers.

Syracuse appeared to lose their legs in the second half as they went 5:41 without scoring. With most of their shots coming from the perimeter they had no one to rebound their missies the Buffs could virtually stand flatfooted and still get all the rebounds.

The Buffs large (51-25) lead allowed them to begin substituting liberally. The first to get the opportunity to go to the bench was Bjorklund. She would finish the game with 14 points and 7 rebounds in 27 minutes of action, her lowest time on the floor this season.

Freshman Emily Waner led the Buffs with a career high tying 17 points to go along with 5 assists and 1 steal in 24 minutes off the bench. Also scoring in double digits for the Buffs were Randie Wirt and Kate Fagan with 14 each.

Junior Rochelle Coleman led Syracuse with 22; she was the only Orangewomen in double figures. Senior guard and All-Big East player Julie McBride would only manage 7 points, all in the first half.

Colorado stays in Boulder to host Buffalo on Saturday night while Syracuse to face Vanderbilt on Friday.
