Nice game UT. This team continues to impress me.

Good win for the Big 12.

OU needs to finish off the Vols tomorrow.

J. Carey is still one of the best passers in the game. She has some of the best eyes on the court.

Congrats to Stacy Stephens for reaching 1000+ rebounds!!!!!

Carey has two more seasons (including this one), very nice. I think one of the most appealing things about her game is that she never gets down on herself when she makes mistakes.

She had a stretch where she made a couple of poor passes resulting in TO's on consecutive possessions, but she never let it faze her. UT beat a pretty capable opponent today, a very good win.

A fun drinking game to play while watching any ESPN broadcast of a Texas women's basketball game:

Drink once whenever you hear the word "concussion."
Drink twice when you see Stacy Stephens and the rubber band.

I guarantee you'll get buzzed by the end of the game.

Other than a few silly turnovers, the Horns looked very impressive against a very impressive Georgia team. Braxton at 6'6" and Thomas at 6'5" were a handful but our tenacious defense held UG to just 21 points in the second half. Schreiber was incredible with some great post moves and finished with 25 points. What can you say about Carey....those threes can kill you. This is the third top ten team UT has played in their non-conference schedule and on to another #2 on December 28th, unless the Sooners can prevail today. Great win for the Horns and they looked every bit the Final Four team they are. It would not surprise me to see UG in the FF either.

Braxton and Thomas are good, but Georgia's tradition of great guards continues. Kendrick and Baker are as good a tandem as any in the country. For much of the 1st half I found myself seething and muttering to myself like Gollum..."thieving little pickpockets!...tricksy, they is...they wants to take our precious!..."

Our strategy was a good one, considering our weapons and UGA's twin towers: draw them out of their(very solid) zone D with outside shooting, and make the big gals work for every point. Problem was, we couldn't hit anything early on. But we hammered away and eventually found the range, and those 3's kept us in the game in the first. Then in the 2nd, we began frustrating the towers and they got in foul trouble; it was then that the Horns smelled blood and went for the jugular. Also helped that the Dawgs couldn't BUY a bucket in the last 10 minutes.

Schreiber was the gamer - and our main strategic advantage. The Dawgs have great perimeter players and great post players, but they lack a versatile, 6' + inside-out player like Schreiber who can bang down low, drive and pullup, and hit the 3 as well.

Some Horns didn't score a bunch but played important roles: Bowers on help-defense down low; ditto TJ, plus rebounding, though she made some freshman decisions with the ball a few times. I also wanted to see her post up more and take it right at Braxton and Thomas, but she shied away from that for the most part. And Nina Norman, Nina Norman, Nina Norman...cool head, kept after it, hit some gutsy pull-up Js, and made UGA's guards work for everything, especially in the 2nd.

How we out-rebounded this team i'll never know - tenacity and positioning, I guess - but it was a testament to our team's character.

One gripe, though: our FT shooting was abysmal, even down the stretch. If Georgia had made just a couple of those misses in the waning minutes, that could have been a big liability. We can't count on good teams shooting 22% in the 2nd half, regardless of our defense. I hope that problem doesn't rear it's head in Knoxville next week.

2-1 vs. the top 10 so far... a win over the Vols next Sunday could make the Penn St. game seem like a bad dream...

I agree. While watching the game it seemed as if we were getting killed on the boards. Braxton and Thomas used their height and long arms to go over our players and snatch 20 offensive boards.

Kala Bowers is playing the best basketball of her career. She should have loads of confidence going back to the scene of one of her best freshman-year games in Knoxville.

I too was very impressed with Georgia. I would not be one bit surprised to see them in the FF one bit. I dont remember a game with two big tall strong centers like this since we played Rutgers in the final 8 back in 1987 against Sue Wicks & Regina Howard. Back then they made us pay for it until Jody put in two freshman Ellen Bayer & Lyssa McBride to win that game and send us to the final 4. It was a great defense game on our part in the 2nd half. Tomorrow Ill pack for Tennessee and off we go again.
