In front of 14,000+ people...even the upper deck was packed..not a sellout, but darn close and what a game they saw.

Worst part is that Nicole Powell went down with an ankle sprain 11 minutes in and didn't return. She was scoreless and had 4 turnovers at that point. I hated to see her go out.

Robertson and Greenwalt started in place of Ayers-Curry and Ritchie.

Alesha led the scoring with 18 pts, followed by Clark with 11 then Perkins with 9. Not the best shooting game for Perk but her defense in the waning minutes of the 2nd half was key.

Grant was the warrior today....went down in the scramble for the ball, the Cardinal grabbed her leg and wow did she react...even Marsha seemed a little stunned at the fire in those eyes. She led the team in rebounds with 7.

Twasn't Tech best shooting or rebounding performance. The Cardinal won the rebounding battle. Tech had 14 steals & 11 turnovers and forced 22 turnovers by the Cardinal.

What continues to please all of us is the togetherness of this team. They play together so well and handle their time on the bench with class and cheering on their comrades.

Cardinal coach Tara VanDerveer said the ability of Tech's players to work together is apparent.

``Great teams do not surprise you. You know what to expect,'' she said. ``They pass the ball well. They're well coached. Their players really complement each other.''

The crowd was terrific, really into the game and really, really loud...it was a blast. 11-0, the best start in school history and a team that's willing to do the little stuff to win, there's no quit in this team.

On a side note, Mom and I saw Enrica in the hall and talked to her for a few minutes...she immediately hugged us..what a sweetie. Looking forward to seeing her play next season

Great defensive game! I thought the tired legs from the trip showed a little in the second half, but the fire was there! Love the togetherness and unselfishness of this team! Don't really care who does the job as long as it is done.

Not surprised that the rebounds fell off a little, Casey was up top defending Nicole Powell; and what a job she did! So sorry Nicole went down with the ankle injury, but relieved that it wasn't a knee.

Jia made some unbelievable defensive plays, Alesha was huge, and Jametra played great tough offense. The whole team came to play and contributed in some way.

I do love Enrica Johnson. She is a sweetie, and the good news is that that it was Orthoscopic (sp?) and not remedial surgery so the rehab should be easier.

The official count of tickets sold was 14,674, the most this season for any men or women's game at United Spirit Arena. It was also the fifth most in Lady Raider history. and pretty much every one of those tickets were used..

Even Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer was somewhat surprised.

"It was a great crowd and a tremendous tribute to women's basketball," she said. "I was really excited to see all the fans come out to a game like this, especially on a Sunday. I was hoping they'd all go to church. I thought that's what they did down here."

You guys are so where we want to be -- Coach Sharp has just done a tremendous job in building a program -- any chance she's looking to coach a football team http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/biggrin.gif.

I thought that was a pretty funny quote. They allow skipping church once in a while when there's a big Lady Raider game. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

I'm glad the Lubbock fans came out to watch a great game.

Nice win for the Lady Raiders!
