just wanted to give everyone a heads up that you can purchase tickets over the internet through Ticketmaster..link located at Big 12 sports.com......and you can purchase individual sessions...which is not available through the universities (OU, anyway).
I was able to get reserved seats for Wednesday's games but only general admission for the semi's on Thursday.
May want to look into purchasing Big 12 tickets early.....
especially if those Kansas State folks continue to sell out their own games.........how far is it from KSU....an hour??

swok34, I've never been to the Big 12 tourney. Is is difficult to get a decent hotel room in Kansas City that is close to the game?

I'd say its around a two hour run from Manhattan. It would be more like three hours for us fanatics in Clay & Marshall counties.

Zo I don't think it should be too hard to find a room in the KC area. Obviously the tourney is not a huge crush of people compared to the size of KC. Since our daughter moved there we stay with her family when in the area so I'm not current on motels. Most things in KC are reasonably priced and there is a lot to do. The drivers are nuts though. I think most car turn signals in KC have rusted from disuse but they keep their brakes and steering in shape by following too close and changing lanes.

I've never had a problem getting a hotel. Seems the hotels around Municipal are pricey, in my book....but, I think if you call through the university you are supporting, they will tell you what hotel the team is staying in and I think there is possibly a special price. I don't know if that is set yet...I don't know when they decide what hotels the teams stay in.
Tuesday and Wednesday nite are usually not a problem because the men's tourney doesn't start until Thursday.....hotels, restaurants seem more of a problem from Thursday PM through Saturday PM......I'm only planning on going Wednesday and Thursday's games.
I usually book my hotel pretty early, as soon as I know I'm attending.......I did find a really good deal about 2 miles south of the arena for $59/nite for double occupancy...some kind of home for the holiday's special.....heck, if they give it to me, I'll celebrate a holiday. I'm finding rooms run average about $65 to $70 a night up to whatever you want to spend..I'll probably go ahead and book today the $59/nite spx.

There are several hotels in the area of the arena. There is a Doubletree right across the street, and a Ramada up the block. I believe the Ramada is where a lot of the teams stay. There is also an older Holiday Inn nearby that is usually less expensive.
Here's a tip....last year I went down only for the finals. I stayed at the Doubletree across the street for around $89. Most people leave after their teams do, so I think I got a little better deal picking up someone's cancelled reservation.

well, I called to check on the "Home for the Holiday's" special and was told he didn't think that would be in effect in March...
kinda wondered about that....though they do give a government/military discount......which with that it would be $51.00/night (even better) and I'm travelling with a government person......found that through www.ChoiceHotels.com (http://www.ChoiceHotels.com.....)
schooner, it's the Rodeway Inn @ 3240 Broadway, KC, MO....
phone #816-531-9250.....I did my initial search through www.travelocity.com (http://www.travelocity.com) and the guy suggested I go ahead and try to reserve under the "home for the holiday" special".....
the internet hotel booking is an art, last time...I got a good rate but somehow they wouldn't give me that free breakfast I was promised http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Anybody ever experience a hotel/motel in K.C. that you would say everyone should stay away from?
swok34 - was Rodeway Inn nice? How long did it take you to get to Municipal Auditorium?

Here's another good option. My husband and I stayed at the Fairfield Inn at Union Hill a few months back. It is about midway between Crown Center and the Plaza shopping areas. I think we paid like $59/night compared to $159 in the Plaza or a Crown Center. I'll try to include the link...

schooner, I've never stayed at this one...I have stayed at the Hotel Phillips before they remodelled and it was great and right around the corner from the arena.
There is a food court nearby in the basement of a office building which is great....several fast food places there.
