Everyone plays this weekend.

Miss State at Baylor could be an interesting game. Tann White is a terrific player for MSU and Baylor has Young and a host of other great players.

In the past Harvard has had some good teams, but Colorado will be too much.

Texas takes on NC State at the Jimmy V on ESPN2...Texas is getting great tv coverage this year.

Tech takes on Rutgers on Sunday in yet another match of two defensive teams...last year in the USA, there was blood on the court (literally)....Rutgers is limping a bit, Cappie's got a sore ankle which didn't keep her from pulling away from Michigan. It will be a dog fight.

Here's the rest of the schedule according the Big 12 site...what are the other tough games?

Mississippi State at Baylor, 7 p.m.
Kansas at UMKC, 7 p.m.
Western Illinois at Kansas State, 6 p.m.
Wofford at Nebraska, 7:05 p.m.

22 (Saturday)
Nicholls State at Baylor, 6 p.m.
4-Colorado vs. Harvard, 3 p.m.
Iowa State at Cleveland State, 2 p.m.
5-Oral Roberts vs. Oklahoma, 12 p.m.
5-Oklahoma State vs. Tulsa, 2:30 p.m.
6-Texas A&M vs. LaSalle, 2 p.m.

23 (Sunday)
4-Colorado vs. Minnesota/Southern, 1/3 p.m.
Missouri at Bradley, 6:05 p.m.
Princeton at Nebraska, 2:05 p.m.
7-Texas vs. North Carolina State [ESPN2], 11 a.m.
6-Texas A&M vs. Boston/Florida, TBA
2-Texas Tech vs. Rutgers

I don't think the OU/ORU game will be very competitive, but I do think the OSU/Tulsa game could be the better of the two.

I plan to stay and watch it.

The Cornhuskers play Wofford tonight and Princeton Sunday afternoon, both at the Devaney Center.

The Wofford Lady Terriers of the Southern Conference bill themselves as the "Nations Youngest Team". They field 3 juniors and the rest are freshmen and sophomores. The Lady Terriers finished 4-24 last season. They were 1-17 in conference play.

On Sunday afternoon the Princeton Tigers come to Lincoln. Princeton returns 2 starters from last years team that went 9-19 overall and 4-10 in Ivy League play. The Tigers lost 10 letterwinners off of last years club including 4 of it's top six scorers.

This should be a good start for the Huskers. For the young freshmen coming in this year it should provide some very good experience because they all should be seeing considerable playing time. I look for the Huskers to be 2-0 come Monday morning and hopefully no injuries occur in both games.

Assuming the higher ranked teams win their first round games, the final of the Subway Classic in Minnesota should be a real good game pitting home team Minnesota against Colorado.

Minnesota, ranked number 13, versus number 16 ranked Colorado, with Colorado having two seniors who are from Minnesota in Randi Wirt and Tera Bjorklund. Both players should have good cheering sections coming to the game so it won't be a totally hostile crowd for the Buffs.

OK Buffs, first take care of business against Harvard then go after Minnesota, for your second straight upset of a higher ranked team in a championship game!!

Nebraska 104, Wofford 46.....A display of shooting by froshie Heather Kephart was the entertainment in a merciless beating.
She was 4-for-8 from three point range. Not a bad start, but I want to see if she can create shots against an actual college team. We might see those when the teams plays in Memphis' thanksgiving tourney next week.

Nice way to start off the season, Huskers! Looks like your gals may have some more offensive firepower this year Chip. I agree that Thanksgiving tourney should be an interesting one for NU and show them some early benchmarks.

I'm anxious to get a better idea of the "lay of the land" here in the Big 12. My sense is that just about evryone is going to be better, but for some we will have to wait to see them play against real teams, as you say, Chipper...

When and where does Tech/Rutgers tip off? TV?
Also, any TV for CU/Minn.? That should be a heck of a matchup as well- (Tera vs. McCarville) CU is going to be battle-hardened very early this year...

I'm digging these big top 20 tilts so early in the season!

That's channel 6 on Cox here in Lubbock.

Guess I'll have to tape the Jimmy V Classic since I'll be otherwise occupied in the USA.

Glad to see UNL blow out a team....that helps to build some confidence and Coach Yori will use that as a foundation to get the Huskers ready for some tougher competitions.

KSU defeated Western ILL 76 to 48. The Westerwinds have a very good 6'7 center (she was the top rebounder and at the top in scoring for all players in the recent World Championship for Young Women games, (She played for Latvia)) and a very good 6'2 power forward. They won their conference last year and are picked to win it again. Their guard play however, does not match their front court.

KSU came out determined to be more agressive and they were. The team is still herky-jerky with some of the sub rotations but there was clear improvement. Coach Patterson did play all 14 players and worked on various combinations. The margin could have been much wider if needed. Claire Coggins and Twiggy McIntyre continue to develop rapidly and show signs of getting lots of floor time. Shanda Murdoch has a bit more of a log jam at power forward and may not see as much floor time but she is progressing also. I won't comment on the oldies http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif you already know them.

GO Big 12!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big 12 Rocks On, leaving Kansas behind.

Friday's Results:
Kansas St 76 – Western Illinois – 48
Baylor 88 – Mississippi St 45
Nebraska 104 – Wofford 46
Kansas 50 - UMKC 63 (@ UMKC)

Key Stat for Kansas: 6 assists/22 turnovers
Marian Washington and her team have some work to do!
Ervin was impressive with 14 points, 7 rebounds in only 16 minutes. Have to go back to that key stat though and say no one individual's effort is going to get the job done.

I'm looking for 6 more Big 12 wins today.

"Glad to see UNL blow out a team....that helps to build some confidence and Coach Yori will use that as a foundation to get the Huskers ready for some tougher competitions."

I'd rather us schedule teams a level or two up and beat them, that's how you get ready for tougher competitions.

Omaha Marian could beat Wofford by 10 or 15 points. Last night game was like the school bully beating up kids on the short bus.

"Also, any TV for CU/Minn.? That should be a heck of a matchup as well- (Tera vs. McCarville) CU is going to be battle-hardened very early this year..."

First CU has to take care of business today and beat Harvard, another NCAA team. Then, assuming they do that and assuming Minnesota beats Southern (that one looks like a gimme), the CU / Minn matchup is tomorrow. Unfortunately, no TV. Radio only.

Well, I don't mean to jinx anyone, but I think CU is the real deal this year, and I think they'll stomp a mudhole in Haah-vud. Looks like VJR is stepping up to give the Buffs the dimension they lacked last year - a strong, quick wing player to break down a D and get Tera and Randie and the others more open looks.

CU had a tough team last year, but opponents with solid post players were able to key on Bjorklund and CU didn't have the playmakers/shot creators to draw them out. Sounds like Barry has also turned up the heat a notch or two in the gym. The ND triumph showed they have confidence, durability and character to go along with an experienced lineup and a tough, competitive coach.

I think they can take the Gophers, but it's by no means a sure thing that they do, of course. Guarding Whalen will be a tall order and Minnesota has plenty of grit and talent of their own. Wish I could see that one...

Harvard 48-43 at the half. Were up 39-22 at one point.

Bjorklund 20 pts at the half.

Colorado pulled it out 85-81 and Bjorklund shot 12-for-14 from the field and 9-for-9 ending up with 33 points (please Cisti, watch Tera). Kate Fagan scored 23 points and CU overcame a 1st half 15pt deficit. As their reward they get Penn St. and Whalen who beat USC 93-41.

OU over ORU 90-42
ISU over Cleveland St 73-51
Tulsa gets by OSU 58-56
TAMU loses to La Salle 67-62

Hey, Chipper give the Huskers a break...lots of teams play small schools like this, it is big deal for these smaller schools to get to play a D1 team

Duke beat their instate "foe" Elon by 82 pts 108-26...

Nebraska has Ole Miss coming up...a SEC, D1 team that's having some struggles of their own.

Someone mentioned the SEC losers yesterday and the respect that the Big 12 should be getting for being the best from top to bottom.

Well, the bottom needs to improve before that is true. Tulsa? UMKC? La Salle???

Maybe I should quit posting predictions on this board,eh?
Sorry, Buffs...but, hey, you pulled it out. What was Harvard bringing that gave CU so much trouble? 39-22 is a little disturbing...

I expected A&M to struggle early and often with a new regime...LaSalle isn't quite as small-time as Wofford et.al....I am a little disappointed in OSU; I kind of expected them to be a little better...c'est la vie...here's hoping we bat 1.000 on Sunday.

I am a little disappointed in OSU

I had planned to stay and watch this game, thinking it would be more competitive than the OU/ORU game......but a nap and a football game were calling http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

I did watch a little of it and OSU has soooooo many new players.
I think they return four from last year..two starters in Skibbe and Lori Allen. So, I think it's probably a little of TAMU's issues with having so many new folks on the team. I hate to comment on OSU's team and would almost rather an Oklahoma State fan do it because I didn't see the whole game. They do have some height this year.....6'-4, 6'-5. Gomes looks to be ironing the kinks out coming from JUCO to DI. Skibee is still Skibee, the fearless warrior.

Here's a couple of notes from the recap:
Nina Stone and Brittany Dietz led the Cowgirls in the first half with 10 and nine points, respectively. Dietz scored all nine of her points from behind the arc and Stone finished with 19 points in their first game in a Cowgirl uniform.

Tulsa's not bad....they are in league with La Tech, SMU, Fresno State, Hawaii, Rice...which is better than ORU, in league with IUPUI, UMKC, Oakland, Southern Utah, Valpo.....Tulsa has returning players in Chiconas, Candice Brewer, LeAnn Upshaw, Kara Pogoni, Becky Heidotten...names I've heard over the past couple of years.

This is the first year that the Bertha Teague has gone to a one day format, so I'm not sure how they pick who OU plays and who OSU plays, but I think OU got the lesser opponent.

Last year, La Salle had a respectable RPI of 98, while UMKC was very up and down, beating some decent teams (e.g., Western Illinois, RPI 62) while losing to some really terrible ones. Tulsa lost to Oklahoma by only four points in last year's Bertha Teague. But then they had Allison Curtin, who now is playing in the WNBA (or will be, as soon as she recovers from her torn ACL).

Good day for the Big 12 with one exception.

Sun Nov 23, 2003

Texas 69 North Carolina St. 56
Texas A&M 61 Boston University 53
Texas Tech 73 Rutgers 45
Nebraska 75 Princeton 61

Unfortunately, Minnestota ate Colorado's lunch today
Minnesota 95 Colorado 61
looks like they shut Tera down to only 12 pts. Fagan had 14

Still to play
Missouri vs. Bradley

Very nice win for TAMU.

Love my Lady Raiders and the way they are playing this year. All the seniors are giving good leadership and the whole team is responding well.
