Sometimes, I just want to sing that theme song from the old Jefferson's sitcom, We're movin' on up.... Coverage of women's basketball just creeps on up the ladders of both quantity and quality.

The Dallas Morning News made a big step when they assigned Tracy Schultz and gave her columnist status to write about wcbb. She covers the B12 more than most other conferences and is doing a great job. Of course she didn't have to do much to be an improvement over her predecessor, Bart Hubbich (sp?). He was either low man on the totem pole to get that assignment or he was being punished by the DMN, at least he wrote about wcbb like it was punishment to have to do so.

Even the DMN reporter assigned to cover Tech sports from Lubbock, Brian Davis, is writing original pieces on the women's games instead of rehashing the AP reporter's story. Are Carter and Cash doing the same from College Station and Austin (asking because I haven't really watched for stories by them)?

The DMN primarily pays attention to the Oklahoma and Texas schools in the B12. I don't see the Houston Chronicle much but it doesn't seem like they do much original reporting for any schools other than UH and maybe Rice. Anybody comment about them?

I know the Denver Post often has articles about Colorado, do they also mention other B12 teams?

Anyway, I pleased with the improvement by the DMN over the past couple of years.

Oh yes, one last thing. Brian Davis began his story about the TT-BU game like this:

" Double Ts were everywhere Wednesday at the United Spirit Arena. Unfortunately for Kim Mulkey-Robertson, she's not much of a Texas Tech fan. Officials presented the Baylor coach with two technical fouls and an automatic ejection in the first half. "

I know that is painful for the Baylor fans, but I thought it was a rather clever intro for the story about the game.

I agree that Brian Davis is doing a much better job now that they actually have a staff member in Lubbock. I know being a horn, he's probably hating it, but I think he's doing a great job for the most part.

Tracy Schultz with the DMN kind of grew up working for the Arlington, Tx edition for the DMN for a few years in their sports dept. During that time, due to a couple of AAU National tournaments being in that area, she acquired a ton of exposure to future Big 12 or even other Texas and surrounding states players. One year she even talked them into paying her way to and out of state National AAU tournament to cover the metroplex teams. She has written articles on most of the Big 12 girls from the area while they were still in high school. This gives her much more insight than most and she does really love the women's game. Kudo's to her--keep up the good work.

Anything is better than this piece of crap:

LUBBOCK, TEXAS (TICKER) -- Jia Perkins scored 20 points and Amber Tarr added 15 as No. 16 Texas Tech won its second straight Big 12 Conference game with an 83-63 victory over No. 11 Baylor.

Texas Tech (10-5, 2-3 Big 12) used a dominant first half to take command, shooting a blazing 57 percent (20-of-35) en route to opening a comfortable 48-26 advantage.

Tanisha Edwards scored 12 points and Natalie Ritchie added 10 points for the Lady Raiders, who held a 46-28 advantage in points in the paint. Point guard Cindi White finished with nine assists.

Perkins has had three straight games in which she has scored 20 or more points since getting benched for most of the second half of an 80-68 loss to Oklahoma on January 5.

Sheila Lambert led Baylor (13-3, 1-3) with 24 points but made just 8-of-25 shots. Danielle Crockrom and Steffanie Blackmon each added 13 points for the Bears.

Baylor coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson was ejected in the first half for arguing with referee Jeff Caudle.

Actually DblT81, the Denver Post does a pretty good job on reporting MEN'S basketball, in spite of the fact that the CU men never even come close to competing in the Big 12.

Check out this post http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1002,87%257E337953,00.html

Women's basketball is another matter however - they treat it like a third world disease.

Pretty sad for a newspaper that purports to be forward-thinking.

And RaiderPower1,

what a job, huh?

Get paid real money for going to a basketball game and submitting a wire report that took all of 2 minutes to compose.

I'm in the wrong business.

The sad part is that the AP Wire post is the defacto gospel fact in about 1200 newspapers every day.

Much worse than pathetic, in my mind. And these so-called journalists actually get away with this crap.

Somebody needs to call them out for the worthless piles of **** they are.
