Started thinking about this last night. We are only about 25% of the way through the conference season. But who are the frontrunners for POY, FOY, and NOY?
Player of Year:
Welle
Caufield
Wecker
Lambert
Crockrom
My vote goes to Welle. She's probably been the most consistent even with back spasms. Caufield is on her heels
Freshman of the Year:
Wecker
Koehn
Schreiber
Greenwalt
I'd go with Wecker
Newcomer of Year:
Keasha Cannon
I'm assuming that Newcomer only goes to non-Freshman, right? Or do I get this wrong every time? Do they give a FOY and NOY? Or just NOY?

Newcomer goes to a non-freshman. They give out three awards: FOY, NOY and POY. There was a two year stretch where ISU won three out of four FOY and NOY awards. Frese and Taylor in 97-98, followed by Welle or Francis (I don't remember which one) in 98-99.

FOY - The field has narrowed. I'd say Wecker, Koehn, and Schreiber are in the running. It is an interesting situation. You could just about give the FOY aware to the entire KSU freshman class. For Texas, it seems that before and after every game another team's coach is talking about Schreiber and how she is the difference maker between Texas last year and Texas this year. If the season ended today, I'd say Wecker.
POY - This looks wide open to me. Stephens continues to get stronger every game. Plus, she is doing what great players do, coming through when it really matters for her team.
NOY - Keasha Cannon stands alone.

FOY--Hands down Wecker
As for an all-freshman team--Wecker, Koehn, Schreiber, Greenwalt,
and Mahoney.
POY--Tough call. Caufield is playing awesome. Welle is her usual self. Ditto for Lambert. Maybe it'll end up going to the top player on the conference champ team-doesn't it usually play out that way?
NOY--Cannon

Hello! Did I miss something, or did you forget Jia Perkins?

Hehe...you're right elf...but I think POY goes to Welle. Someone said it earlier...consistency. As for FOY, I don't know much about the KSU freshmen. I am sure if your team is being led by underclassmen then the FOY should come from that team somewhere.

Jia is awesome but has been a bit inconsistent this year---my vote for POY, at this time, is a toss-up or tie between Caulfield and Welle.
FOY--Shrieber and Koehn
Talk about getting ahead of ourselves, there is waaaay too much league play to unfold before we hang a banner and place a tiara on anyone. There is no doubt that the above mentioned players are certainly on the runway.

That's why I open it for discussion. Those are the names I came up with at 6 in the morning - sorry, might have left off some. Definitely throw Stepbens and Perkins in the mix as well.
Notice the big ommission though - Dales. Although a good season for her - it's not up to her previous standard and I can't really put her up there with the others mentioned so far.

That's why I called them frontrunners. Just wanting some discussion.

Actually I think last week's Big 12 Player of the Week, Nicole Ohlde, should not be forgotten about either. She is shooting a very high percentage and is among the leaders in several categories including blocks and rebounds. In addition she does very well in areas that Welle does not including steals and assists. Nicole is VERY reliable and just like last year she has her best games when playing top competition. She also handles the ball when the team needs help against a press. There is no one I'd rather have on my team. (of course she is my neighbor and her dad is bigger than me)
At this point in the season though I'd have to vote for Welle for POY. She is just a great post player and ISU would be lost without her. I think Wecker is the choice for FOY with Koehn close behind. I think I'd go with Cannon for NOY. She is the heart of the Nebraska team. The other players mentioned are also very good. What a lot of talent in this league!
How about REALLY getting ahead of ourselves and considering the top candidates for NEXT year's Big 12 Player of the Year. I'll nominate Ohlde, but hope for Lindsey Wilson to challenge.

Welle gets a lot of press for ISU, but the player they would really be lost without is Wilson. I definitely look for her to contend for POY next year.

I'd like to nominate Chipper for POY (Poster Of the Year), HoopScoop for FOY (Facilitator Of the Year) and myself for NOY (Nut Of the Year).
