That's so rare in Big 12 women's ball, it is almost off the charts, although it sounded to me like Coach Coale was kinda working on the same thing last night.

It could be that the pressure of this conference season is going to take a toll on the coaches' sanity. It's no sissy league, and faint of heart just isn't going to cut it. I expect more coaches to get on the edge this year, and you can expect that with 7 ranked teams, and almost approaching 8 (Missouri).

Everyone lights off sooner or later, I just think it was probably M-R's turn tonight. And it's not like her team is at a critical junction in the season right now, right?

;^))

the radio is reporting she's listening to the game from the locker room.....they said something about it being the inside physical play???? I'm guessing, I think that's what they mentioned.

She was chewing on the ref when Crockrom attempted a shot as the shot clock expired and she felt she took a hard foul, apparently a no-call.

83-63 win over a tough Baylor team, we'll take it! Thank the lord we stopped the bleeding.

I know getting a win over ISU on Sat. won't be easy. If we don't get a free throw percentage over 60% we won't win on SAt and won't win many close games for the rest of the year. That is just horrible!

Perkins, Tarr and Ellison had big games, however, balanced scoring overall.

The girls were on a mission tonight and it showed! Amber and Jia were everywhere tonight and Tanisha had a great game too. Candi played tremendous defense.

The zebras were absolutely awful tonight. The play was very physical and they were totally inconsistent throughout the game, but the second half was even worse than the first. I wouldn't have thought they could have accomplished that, but they did.

I was just watching the tape of KMR's Technicals and the announcers said that the second one was called to quick and I agree. The referee must have had something else eating him up. I agree that KMR definately likes to work the refs, but she should have only gotten one. She was about 8 feet off the coaches box and the ref told her to step back to her bench but she persisted and I think that's why the ref gave her the second one. The assistant though did a very nice job of keeping the bears in the game in the second half. He kept them composed for the most part.

As for the game. I think this is Jia's 3rd or 4th 20 pt. game. It's official, "Jia Perkins has the sweetest jumper in the nation." She is almost automatic on the fast break when she gets about 10-15 feet out. The strategy of running on Baylor was definately very effective. Brooke M. just couldn't stay with her defender on the break and she was beaten numerous times down the court for the easy lay in. I thought the LR did a nice job of containing Crockrom. She had 7 of Baylor's first 12 points and ended up with only 13 and 11. Tech began double teaming her and it was very effective because she was pushed so far out that she couldn't make that quick turn and shoot jumper of hers. What can I say about Lambert though. She will be a great player in the WNBA as long as she doesn't force things. She penetrates the paint just about as good as anyone. She kept her team in the game and never gave up. Tanisha Tanisha Tanisha. She was awesome tonight. 12 pts. 7 boards on 5-6 shooting. She's definately the emotional leader for this team. Amber Tarr played a solid game as well with 15 pts. 6 rebounds 4 steals 5 assists and only 1 turnover. Candi White led the team with 9 assists and only 2 turnovers. She definately should be our PG for the majority of the time. Good quality win for the LR over a good baylor team. Next up ISU...Go Lady Raiders!!

There was a scramble around the basket with what seems like 30 arms in the air and the shot clock expired. Coach Kim saw a foul and she was already expressing that to the ref. Since she was not overly animated...there was no jumping up and down, throwing things or yelling that I could hear, whatever words she used were enough to get first T. Then according to the fans sitting across from the Baylor bench, she made a gesture at the ref and that was it. I didn't see it the gesture. But it all happened very quickly and the refs were very firm.

I hated to see her go. Baylor kind of came apart after that and As much as you want to win, I can't believe anyone would want to win by mega points over a team and coach like Baylor because of some incident like this. She brings a lot of passion and intensity and class and it is reflected in her team. She was very frustrated and maybe deserved the technicals...but it's still not fun.

Ryan Hyatt (our radio announcer) is convinced that the last time a coach was ejected in Lubbock was Leon Barrmore of La Tech in '91 and Coach Kim M-R had to finish up the game.

Baylor regrouped in the 2nd half and cut the lead down to 15 or so.
Tech did a good job of doubling down on Crockrom, really limited her possessions.

Lambert did her best to take the game on her shoulders. Perkins is quick but Lambert is so smooth..like a cheetah...one time she threaded her way between two defenders, and I swear she bounced the ball around one of them and made a beautiful layup before they even moved. She ended up with about 26 points.

Tech had 24 assists which says a lot about their team play

Tech needed this win and we'll take it, but the visit to Waco will be doubly tough.

At one point our FT % was hovering around 80%...I don't know what we ended up with.

I thought Ryan said that the FT % was 59%? I know the first half was pretty good, but the second half was aweful, again.

It sounded like Cisti was having a hard time with Crockrum and Co, she had several turnovers. Was it their defense or her having a frosh night? She ended up with 8 poits and 9 boards I think, so not a total waste of night. I'll just be glad when you can be stronger with the ball and a lot of that will go away.

RP1 that was Jia's 3rd 20+ point game in a row and her 7th this season... with 17 v Vanderbilt & 19 v Rutgers, two pretty good defensive teams.

Final FT % was http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif. When the field goal percentage is close to the FT %, there are problems, unless you're ISU in the second half Tuesday and then you're happy with both.

Great overall game by the LR. Second half was a little sluggish for them, but they managed to maintain their lead. I think Baylor's wheels started to fall off long before KMR was ejected. Their defense was terrible...TT had like 3 fast-break drives to the basket in a row. BU played best in the second half when they went on that little run.

I too think that Lambert is a tremendous player, but 8 of 25 shooting!!! Come on...and Crockrum was 4 of 14. Great defense played on these two, but it was hard to contain Lambert's speed. I think 8 or 9 of her points came at the line. I still like Jia's game better http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif It was fun to see the two of them goin at it.

Hope TT can pull off the win against ISU...it is much-needed for both teams at this point. Go http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ttu.gif

Who officiated the game? The quality's been wildly erratic. We had a good crew Tuesday night vs Nebraska, but the group that did the Tech game was shaky at best. We had folks working some of our non-conference games that flat out didn't know what they were doing.

I'm feeling a little low this morning. My Lady http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/bu.gif need to kick it in gear. They are going to have to step back and re-evaluate their game, and make a decision as to whether or not they want it bad enough to compete in this league. They sounded terrible on the radio, what little I listened. My stomach can't handle listening to a radio broadcast, maybe its the announcers. Their FG percentage stinks. One moment, Lambert and Crockrom look like superstars and they look like junior high players the next!! Raiderpower, you are right, their defense is much more suited to a half court game and TT killed them. I'm not sure if Baylor dictated the flow of the OU game or if that was OU's game plan, but it makes a difference defensively for BU. Oh well on to Missouri.

The first technical was, I'm guessing, partly intended. KMR wanted to chew on the ref as well as inspire her team. The second T was an overreaction by the official. The coach made a gesture to the official, but it was by no means obscene. She put her hand to her forearm to indicate her player had been hacked or grabbed. On the TV replay, I could see a Tech fan behind the scorer's table indicating a "go to hell" type gesture he thought KMR had made. She definately did not make that gesture, but it may have appeared so from his angle. I wouldn't think it would appear to be that kind of gesture from the official's perspective...but maybe. If so, that would explain the second quick T. Otherwise, I think you gotta give the coach a reasonable amount of time(15 to 30 seconds) to vent after a technical.

As to the play motivating the agitation. The sequence began with a nice drive to the hoop by Lambert and a beautiful leaping partial block from behind by Greenwalt. Lambert still got enough on the ball for it to bounce off the backboard. Crockrum deeply arched her back to snare the rebound as it sailed over her head and behind her. Kari Jo Simmons got her hand on the ball as Crockrum collected it. Crockrum did not waste time in going back up with another shot, but with Simmons' hand on the ball, it basically just went straight up in the air. There was a typically physical scramble for the loose ball. Because the ball went almost straight up in the air, Crockrum was in the best position to make the recovery which she did. She was bumped by Casey Jackson in the effort to snag the ball. As Crockrum gained possession of the ball, the shot clock expired. It could have been a loose ball foul, but it would have been a most unusual call in that situation. Loose ball fouls generally require a little more overt interference. Anyway, even without the bump, there would not have been enough time to loft a third shot attempt---no advantage gained. My guess is that KMR thought Crockrum was fouled when the ball went straight up in the air. That is possible. The TV replay angle is not definitive. Simmons could have grabbed Crockrum's arm as she attempted the shot, but it appears the ball went straight up as a result of the resistance Simmons imposed on the ball with her hand. If Crockrum had not attempted to shoot so quickly, I think it would have been a jump ball. Excellent sequence exhibiting great plays by four different players(two on each team) and great hustle all around.

KMR certainly did nothing to discredit herself, her team, or her university, but it is a little bit amusing that she got tossed from the new arena even more rapidly than RMK could manage it.
