View Full Version : Great Win for the Cyclones!
The Twister Sisters could do no wrong tonight, and won easily over a terrific OU team.
My hat is off to them for a performance that ought to propel them for the rest of the season!
Man is this conference TOUGH!

Cyclones truly had their way with the Sooner Women and MADE them like it!!!!! Sidenote for future reference or analysis of these two teams. Both have an incredibly talented starting four or five and usually play one other bench player for most of the minutes. Was ISU's recent slide, before last night, due to Welle back spasm, Wilson flu, Gahan a bit dinged? Conversely, was OU's loss due to the back to back away games at Baylor and Ames with the ISU game on one day earlier than normal recuperation time. Although Ross has been and was unbelievable in Waco, think she played 39 minutes against Baylor. Was her 1-9 shooting due to fatigue or lack of recovery time. Historically tired or sore legs effect one's shot.
Coach Coale said after the game her team played without energy. I am confident as ISU recovered last night, OU will also by Saturday. However, both teams may just need to find or use some others on each squad to keep all, expecially the studs, available for the wars of the Big 12, and thereafter. Heck, once the tournaments start. The teams play on just one day rest. This same issue may catch up with the fab freshman at KSU. Most freshman "hit the wall" at some point.
Keep your eye on the big prize.

I agree. I wonder if the thinking at OU is if they are going to make it all the way to San Antonio, it will be with those top 6 players, so it all rests on them and it's not worth getting some of the younger players the experience?
I really really hate to think of next year, but even more so with only 2 experienced players back (Hill and Jackson).
I guess my point is...rather than get some experience for the younger players that will have a huge burden to carry next year (Shoush, Luce, Casey), and who could give the starters a breather on occasion, it looks like the coaching staff may be treating this as an 'all or nothing' type year.
Anyhow, just my 2 cents.

But OU has substituted when it can. Look at the OSU game in the first half no less when the game was still close. Luce and Selmon played a lot of minutes. Selmon played some last night, but she is having a hard time especially when you have to guard Welle.
OU couldn't afford to put in too many subs against Baylor. We needed the regulars just to win. I don't see any problem with the substitution pattern. Frankly, I think OU might lose some games if we sub too much.

Well, you've seen them play more than I so you probably know better.
Maybe I'm spending to much time worrying about next year instead of enjoying the present. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif If Coach Coale is not confident enough in some of the players to sub them for even a couple of minutes in a close game this year (just to give a breather, save some legs, whatever), what does that say for next year?
I remember Shoush getting quite a bit of PT against Purdue and did well.
As for Selmon--it doesn't seem like she has improved at all in 4 years.
Anyhow, there's a reason why I'm not a coach, so nothing I say should be taken to seriously. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I'm actually looking forward to next year.......
a lot of young 'uns and no heady expectations. I think OU will be a fun team to watch next year as well.
and OU's loss doesn't seem quite so bad the next day......
heck, same thing happened last year (ok different kind of game, same results).
and, we also have Schuchnect (sp)...who will have a final year of elgibility and has played D1....2 recruits with height http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
and Wadsworth, who I think will have much of the success as Di
Jackson, add to that two really good incoming guards.
hey, look at K-State.......and their "freshmen".

I too am totally excited about next year. However, with this year only half underway, I hope we keep our eye on the big prize coming up around March, 2002.
Point was brought up for discussion only and comparison of a few teams. Great points by all but only OU fans responded.
I tend to believe ISU still believes the big prize is reachable, especially after last night.
KSU, only very recently started thinking of such a dream, but in all likelihood, can't quite fathom it's full concept just yet.
OU's good coaching and recruiting will keep it's program strong for both this year and many years to come. Coale is top notch.

I don't think OU's anywhere out of the running in the NCAA's.
I listened to Bo Overton on the radio this afternoon and he mentioned how much Iowa State had riding on this game.....and all the motivation, from losing to TAMU,....they wanted it more.
OU's single solitary lose in the Big 12 season happened a week and 1/2 earlier a year ago.....and we were still thinking Final Four in the middle of March.
One game, one loss......I've decided it wasn't as bad as I thought last night.
I thought they lacked "spunk" and "heart", but then the win at Baylor was tremendously draining and one less day to prepare between travelling.........it certainly affected Roz...
the conference has only just begun.
