View Full Version : Bad news out of ISU
Apparently Nina Smith is having academic difficulties and may not be with the team next year. I don't know the whole story, but two independent people confirmed this on the Cyclone Illustrated message board. ISU could be reeealllly thin in the post next season.

Hey, Mred, I've been looking for the ISU message board, where is it? I also hear that 6-7, Center, Goring (I think that's her last name?) is living with Nina's parents and has possibly backed out of her commitment to UConn and is still considering ISU and Western Kentucky? I also hear that she might not qualify for D1 and that might be why she is waffeling on Uconn. Any news on that? That would be a big, big, recruit for ISU if that all works out. I would think living with Smith's parents would be a good thing as well. Just curious.
Goring is still considering the three schools you mention, from what I've heard. Tonight she finally became eligible to play (she sat out due to transfer rules).
The board is http://iowastate.rivals.com/forum.asp?sid=916&fid=88&style=1here</a>. There is usually plenty about the WBB team, but as expected MBB and Football usually dominate.

I noticed Nina wasn't at the game tonight but I thought she might be home watching the "adopted sister" make her debut. I hope she gets her grades in order!

There was an article in the Des Moines paper two days ago about Goring. It said she was still considering only Iowa State and UCONN. The "academic difficulties and rumors" about her were that she would not graduate on time according to the credit system her old school in Pennsylvania had. She looked to transfer somewhere to get out on time and someone knew someone (don't ask for the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon - I'm doing this from memory) who knew the Waterloo West coach, which is where she is now. Her grades were reported at being A's and B's in the fall, so that isn't a problem.
I have had the impression and have heard that ISU was not particularly interested in her. This was earlier in the season when there was doubt about her academic ability. Don't know if the perception of Goring has changed, but would love to see Fennelly show some interest in her to keep her from going to UCONN.
I don't have time now to post a link to her story, but you might try looking up www.sportsiowa.com (http://www.sportsiowa.com) and seeing if it's in there. Should be.

Also, some people doubt the rumor about Nina Smith's academic trouble. I hope these people are correct. I'll keep people posted on anything else I hear.

This was the first I'd heard of it, so I'm hoping it's not true either. When I talked to her in the fall, Nina had told me she was having a great time and really liked the school. Hope she didn't decide to have TOO good a time and forget about studying. I'll keep my ears open too.
Thanx for finding the link for me, mred!!
