Does anyone know if this is in lieu of or in addition to replacing Pington? I think Coach Harris has previously handled a lot of these duties.

I figure it's in addition to replacing her. Do any Div I teams ever have just 2 assistants?

OU right now has 3 assistants, in addition to a director of BB operations.

Aren't 3 assistants pretty much the standard for conferences like the Big XII, SEC, Big 10?

I think the BB operations person primarily does the road trip scheduling, meals, hotels, etc.

Often, director of operations is a stepping stone toward an assistant coaching job. Maybe Fennelly is hedging his bets with respect to finding a quality assistant for next season. If he can't find anyone, he can just promote Roberts...

This is just wild speculation on my part.

This position is a new position that most high level D1 programs have had for some time. I have heard that ISU will be interviewing candidates for the asst. position either later this week or early next week.

It certainly gives ISU a leg up in the recruiting of Crystal Howard, although the coach is very deserving a moving up.

Exactly!

Case-and-point the Nebraska Women's Basketball Director of Operations Dr. Micah Parker accepted an assistant coaching job with Drake just yesterday. He had previously coached at NAIA II Concordia NE. and had very good teams. Had he stayed with Concordia last year, instead of becoming Coach Yori's Director of Operations he would of coached his team to the final 4 of this years National tournament.

swok34 is right when she says directors of operations primarily schedule road trips, airfares, meals, hotel and other functions. For Yori though it was like having another assistant on her staff. Amy Stephens learned of his coaching abilities with the Huskers last year and snatched him up before another school beat her to it. Meanwhile Yori continues to hunt for another assistant and now a director of operations.

Actually, Whaley went to OSU as the DOO, having been the 3rd assistant at UT-San Antonio. Though I don't know this, I suspected the pay was better for the DOO than for being a 3rd assistant....or, perhaps it was moving up into a larger conference.....to find a better assistant coaching position.

I bet the pay as DOO at OSU was better than that of third assistant at UT-SA, but I'll also bet that 3rd assistant probably pays more in general.

"although the coach is very deserving a moving up."

Michele is solid, but needed a little more seasoning at the high school level. Her Central teams could have done a little more with the talent they had than there results showed.

Nonetheless an awesome step up for her. I hope Central's new coach is somebody with the same drive and potential she had, instead of some ne'erdowells who coach in OPS schools.

Losing Micah hurts. The guy has a lot to recommend himself.

Now who does Connie get as a good 4th assistant and operations person?

We're counting days to Volleyball, and Jamaal's next interception.

Whaley took the OSU job for a few reasons. First, she is very good friends with Cowgirl assistant (and former Husker player) Amy Gusso, who was an assistant with her at UTSA. Also, Whaley turned down the exact same job at OU to come to Stillwater. She said she felt like she could learn from Goodenough and her style, since she already had a good grasp on Coale's methods (that is not a slam on Coale, who she still talks with once a week, but rather she wanted a broader knowledge).

Also, Goodenough took a pay cut to get a DOO, something Halterman never had.
