Bill Self to KU

A bit off topic, but I'm curious to know what the rest of you think about Bill Self going to KU.

My own opinions are based solely on a NCAA game a few years ago against Arizona where he threw exceedingly physical play and fouling at UofA to try to stop them. He had a deep bench and was willing to foul out most of his team to try to win the game. I was not impressed....but that should not be the basis for an overall opinion of a coach...

I think he's a pretty good, young, in-your-face, kind of coach. I think he'll keep KU at the top, but will be a different kind f ball than they've seen from Roy Williams. I think Self's ties to both KU and OSU will make it interesting. The Big XII has some great coaches!

Not really that unique a strategy. Often when a team has three average post players on the bench, facing one great one, you'll hear the coach say "we've got 15 fouls to give". It's part of the game - not unkown in the women's game, either.

As one who has rooted for the Russians against Kansas (on the men's side), I'm just looking forward to the headlines:

After '88. Final four on Kansas' alternate home court at Kemper Arena. Locals passing out buttons promoting Big 8 solidarity. First semi-final game, OU fans cheer for Kansas against Duke; second semi-final game, home crowd KU fans cheer for Arizona against OU.

Then in the finals, they added injury to insult by stealing our Championship. Come to think of it, their coach left then, too! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/mad.gif

Its already started. The headline in my paper today was "Self-appointed coach at Kansas".

WIBW TV channel 13 Topeka got in the game tonight with their "Self analysis" report on Bill Self's coaching record. Not to be outdone KU Students are buying tee shirts that say I'm happy with my new self or some such.

As a guy who's name is Bender I have always been interested in word games with names. Lord knows I've heard a lot of them.
