Great game in Austin. What a shot with such pressure by Perkins with 7 seconds left. She must of been 5-6 feet behind the 3-point line. Both teams want it so bad that they have to calm down else they blow up at the ref for calling a foul.

Hard to believe out of all the great UT-TTU games, this is only the second in their entire history that went to overtime? Interesting fact.

Great game, another tough loss for Tech. I saw some very good things today, but also some things continue to haunt them, like free-throws and turnovers in the paint. Our lack of depth and experience in the paint is again our weakness. I thought Greenwalt and Ayers stepped up big today, they need to have more of those shots fall. If Greenwalt can just get a little stronger and go up stronger on those shots, they'll start falling.
Jia Perkins, is just so good. I'd hate to think what this team would do without her. She played HER game today--something we've all been waiting for all year!
Texas played another strong game. They have a lot of talent to throw at you and that was the edge today IMO.

Chipper just about had it right with his little ditty. In the end, Stacy, Tracy, and Heather together were to much. The Lady Raiders passed the gut check but still lost the game. They played well and played as a team. I was impressed with Greenwalt. She is going to be a force. She has the talent and she has the attitude. Amber Tarr showed her senior leadership and also looks like a more complete player than I remember from the past.
The Horns are 4-0 in conference. They only need 3 more victories to match last year's conference win total!

wow, great game. I think both teams played really well and it was a fun game to watch......I remember that 3 OT game in 2000 when Edwina was still playing. I didn't see it, I listened on the radio and both teams were flat-out worn out.
Today continued that tradition of great games between these 2 teams.

Tech's inability to knock down some FT's hurt them again. Cook is terrific, Schreiber is really impressive...has a lot of prescence for a freshman
I have zero good to say about Larkin..her lack of sportsmanship and well I won't say anthing more...
I was disappointed in the way the UT players were reacting to every foul called against them...it's a wonder they weren't called for a Technical they way they were getting up in the refs faces.
I was disappointed in Tech's letdown in the 2nd half...they let Texas back in the game and they capitalized on that.

No grojc, that's one thing that you won't ever see, a Tech player yelling at an official. The amount of class that Marsha and the crew make sure their players have is incredible and there aren't too many teams that I see with it (ISU and OU are usually some of the most full of class players). All to many times there was a LL in the face of an official and there were times that their own team members had to pull them away. Kenya Larkin is a player that I have always questioned in terms of sportsmanship. True...celebrate with your teamates but don't get so pumped up that you're getting the face of the opposing players when you celebrate. That's just something that I think Marsha makes sure her players have. We'll see you in Lubbock, UT. Go Lady Raiders!!

I have to DISAGREE with the WHINING of some of you about the UT players' whining at the officials. I was at the game. Sat just a few rows from the floor. Texas Tech got away with a lot of over the back fouls and if you are going to read Kenya Larkin then read your own Amber Tarr also. She whined on every play and elbowed Larkin continuously. At one point, Larkin slapped the ball from her and she slapped Larkin's hand. She is the one that I thought was a poor sport. The officiating was not great for either side but Texas got the worst of it definitely. It was a VERY physical game and the refs let them play. I was impressed with Greenwalt. She will be very good. Don't know when Jody will figure out that at least at this point, Kala Bowers is NOT a 2 guard. Great effort by both teams. And while I think Jody Conradt's offensive strategy and schemes need some work, to say she is not a classy person is RIDICULOUS. She also demands class from her players. Amazing that Tech fans weren't WHINING until they started losing.
Fennelly has said that Iowa State players are NOT PERMITTED to get in the face of the officials. I will say, though, that he sometimes seems to make up for that on his own.

You of all people Bobcat...Never once did I call Jody classless. Amber Tarr, a poor sport?...please! It was Larkin that provoked any kind fight. She always has. Last year she did it in both Austin and in KC with Katrisa O'neal. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif You bobcat were the one telling everyone how your team was going to shreads and how Jody should be let go because her offenses suck...blah blah blah...and so on. Jumped real quick back on the wagon didn't you?

Bobcat, I agree with you about Bowers. I wonder how she would look at the 4. We could use a backup with more offensive potential there. We have more than enough 2s so moving Bowers would also give us 1 less player competing for guard time. With Larkin seeing most of the time at point and Schreiber rarely leaving the game unless she has fouls or we have a substantial lead, that leaves 5 or 6 players to compete for time at the 2. I do think Bowers is improving. It was good to have her height for defense against Amber Tarr.
Conradt has moved Schreiber to the 4 for a bit during the past few games. That seems to work as well. We have guards. We don't have much at the 4/5 after Stacy, Tracy, and Anissa. I did think Mercedes Williams looked promising again today. I'm hopeful that she and Jody Bell will be good players for Texas in the future.

I don't recall whining about ANYTHING. Tech deserved to lose on missed FTs alone.
And I recall praising the efforts of Schreiber and Cook.
I don't recall complaining about the refs...
I'll stand by my words...I was disappointed at the behavior of the UT players displayed by the number of times UT players had to contain their own players...remember we saw it on TV, so we got to see the replays and the looks on the ref's faces.
Larkin may play her heart out, but I'll stand by my opinion regarding her questional sportmanship...cause I am not talking about TTU games...I'm talking about the Iowa State game, the Colorado game and a number of other games where I'm seen Larkin's brand of sportsmanship.
I like to see teams win and lose gracefully. I like to see hard fought games where teams give their all day in and day out no matter who wins or loses.
Texas deserved to win this game...their's no doubt about it. But in the end, it's just a game.

And the little psyche foul that Perkins had at the beginning of the game (practically running over Larkin) wasn't an intimidation thing? Please. What a sore loser. I'm glad the rest of the people who represent your institution on these boards have some class. Yes, Raiderpower, Marsha Sharp was gracious in defeat today. Most of the many Lady Raider fans who traveled to the game in Austin today were supportive of their team while remaining generally polite. I thought Conradt and the Texas coaching staff were gracious in victory. The Texas fans were polite to the Lady Raider fans as well. No insults were hurled. The crowd didn't gloat. Two gentlemen behind me, one from each school, carried on a perfectly civil conversation. Each felt free to comment when they thought a foul went the wrong way regardless of whose team benefited from or was hurt by the call.
Raiderpower1, Why don't you try to emulate those you admire? I've read your remarks on raiderpower.com. It is not 'full of class' to personally insult the other team's players by making comments about personal attractiveness, body parts, or gender adherence, even in cyberspace.[Yes, I was on your board. Many fans read other team's boards. Sometimes, one reads interesting observations there.] Even the petty personal insults you feel free to post here are not examples of 'class'.
'Class' includes: (1) complementing other teams' players when appropriate; (2) offering basketball anaylsis; (3) occassionally choosing to overlook another's faults.
I'm sorry that I did not feel that I could overlook the comments you made about our players even though they were made on another board.

It was a great game in Austin. Both teams seem to be ready and only one team could win. I didn't think that Kenya L. had a problem with anything but only to win the game. The game today is one of the best in the USA. Texas Players and Coaches all have Big Class and the Head Coach of The University Of Texas is
Jody not Judy. So, give that to your Sport Information Department at Tech and make sure they give it to whom ever is call the game at Tech. Both teams played with sportmanship. It was a great game (period).Raiderpower, get over it and both teams played really hard and these are some of the best players and Coaches in the USA. Grow up Raider Power it's a game and it was a GREAT game, it the Big 12.

Congrats to Texas. Schreiber is already great. Cook had a huge first half. Stephens had a huge second half. I was impressed by their play. Especially, the consecutive free throws to ice the game. Wish Tech could do that... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif
Both teams fought hard and were fairly evenly matched which is backed up by the box score and the fact that it took overtime to decide. Tech couldn't hit free throws and couldn't stop the S&S express from scoring in the last 10 minutes of the game.
There were bad calls on both sides. In the OT, Stephens got a basket and a foul shot for what maybe should have been an offensive foul; but that wasn't long after Tarr got away with a drive to the basket and what maybe should have been an offensive foul though Stephens was called for blocking. The referees did not decide this game. A bunch of women who played their best did.
Bobcat, show me where one Tech fan on this board whined about the officiating? Bball Girl said she was disappointed in the UT player's reactions to fouls called against them. Two different issues. I DO see where YOU WHINED "Texas Tech got away with a lot of over the back fouls."
Bball Girl was right on the money about the fits that several UT players had after foul calls. Annisa Hastings threw three tantrums, jumping up and down and complaining about the calls. On the third one, she stepped toward the official saying something when two of her teammates, including Stephens, grabbed her and pushed her away. Perhaps due to her fits, FOX showed replays of each foul and each was clearly a good call. Kaira White was literally hopping mad at an official after a foul call, again the replay showed the call was correct, but whether it was correct or a bad call, her reaction was poor. Stephens again had to step in and pull White away. Stephens herself threw a little fit after a foul call late in the game, and keeping with her leadership role, she literally grabbed one arm with the other and calmed herself down. Now that one was funny to watch. Stephens was emotional but she knew better and so she stopped herself. Stephens was the leader each time, perhaps keeping her teammates from getting a T. These demonstrations were something quite different from when players grin or slightly shake their heads *no* when they don't agree with a call. And they were quite different from when players *lobby* officials for their cause while the clock is stopped. (I don't approve of this lobby thing either, it shouldn't be allowed, but you see tons of players doing it.) Look at the tape of the game. None of those fits had an impact on the outcome of the game, but they did happen.
No excuses here Bobcat. I thought Tech played their best game since they beat Vandy. Texas won, fair and square, with better play. But it was close and maybe the outcome will fall Tech's way in the U.S.A.
Ooo, Carolann, your post got my curiosity up and I went over to Raiderpower.com. Not a pretty sight. Vulgar, in fact. And yet somehow the perception exists that Tech is classy and Texas is not. I'll say this: both the Texas and Texas Tech teams have class, determination, desire, and ability. Some fans of both teams do not.

uh guys....what happened to our pretty even-headed, no trash talking message board?
I have to say I postponed by nap by 20 minutes so I could see the overtime period of this game......uh, the nap USUALLY wins, but today I think both teams played very well. Also don't believe either team really LOST. Ok, I know it shows up on the w or l side but it could have easily gone either way.
I was really impressed with the chemistry that Texas Tech has found after losing 2 players. This was an absolutely GREAT game and a good game for the "general" public. It was fast paced, both teams were playing really well.....I think it spoke well of the Big XII to have a game of this nature televised to the rest of the world.
Uh, the nap won after that, no way was I watching Stanford pancake Oregon.........I started watching the Xavier/George Washington matchup and was snoozing before the 17 min mark in the first half........sloooowwwwwww game.

I just got in and watched the tape of the game. It appears that the young ladies and the coaching staff's in this game today fought a hard fought battle. The difference was the risk Coach Condradt took in the first half to sit Cook and Stephens to keep free of their third foul. Sometimes coaches don't realize the importance of putting a game away when you can is. Subs keep the scappy Texas bunch close enough to enable the big three for Texas (C,S & S) to carry Texas down the stretch. I agree about Kala. With Heather playing so consistently well at the three then Kala must step up at the 2 if she is going to get quality time. Tia Dillard and White need more time this year to help when Larkin leaves next. Big decisions but I hear Texas recuited point guards well. I was very impressed with TT's talent. It will be hard to win in Lubbock. With http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ut.gifSchreiber/Stephen/Bowers and :TT:Greenwalt/Perkins/Ayers so young this matchup will give us all great games in the future. I also enjoy this message board. It is not near as negative as many others. Good Healthy interchanges.

Wow, what interesting talk on this forum about the game! All I can say is GREAT JOB TEXAS!!!! A must win ballgame! Secondly, what a great game to watch on television. I am a younger fan, who resides in a place that has quiet hours, but today I couldn't control the emotion. What else can be said about a ballgame that makes you nervous, excited, and even tired after the game? A true ESPN Classic (well, if they show women's games in the future!!!) I just want to say, after all this talk, way to go HORNS!! Great game girls! To Texas Tech: way to play your hearts out! A couple of missed free throws did you in I think. Perhaps I misunderstood your comments about class. I respect Marsha Sharp as a coach. I think she is one of the very best in the country. And I respect the way Texas Tech plays basketball. HOWEVER, you were obviously looking at a different game than me. YES, some of the Texas players did get emotional. But so did the Texas Tech girls as well. It was a very hard fought game. But when you attack our players I have to jump to the rescue. I saw Amber Tarr complain alot today as well as some of the other Tech players. And as far as coaching goes, why don't you watch Coach Sharp complain continously on the sidelines. She does it every game I have watched. At least I can say Coach Conradt does not do that. I don't fault Coach Sharp for being intense, so don't fault our players for being intense also. And as far as me jumping back on Coach Conradt's bandwagon, I never was off of it. I have said before and I will say it again, our offensive sets and schemes leave a lot to be desired (in my opinion), and I thought that is what this message board was about. If you disagree then fine. I assure you I won't lose any sleep over it tonight.

I'm not imputing it to all Tech fans, DblT. I'm sure its just a small minority. And every team has those type of fans, including UT. Luckily, Hoopscoop has very little of that kind of stuff, unlike most other message boards. However, it seems like the "Texas is unsportsmanlike" stuff comes up every time we win over the Lady Raiders (reference the conversations on this forum after last year's game in Lubbock), but you don't hear that anytime else.
b12fan, I agree with your assessment of the risk of sitting Stacy and Tracy with two fouls in the first half. We looked absolutely awful offensively during that time. However, it turned out to be a great move. That's why Jody is the coach and we're all watching the game from the stands or on TV.

Look, the biggest whinner I ever remember in the Big 12 was Renee Hanebut. I think she even got a technical against Texas. This is such a great rivalry. I too will jump to the women's defense. Its interesting how different the discussion was about the UT-ISU Game.
But you know, I'm glad women's basketball can get these kinds of emotions going. But its a game. RaiderPower - You've won most of the game in the 90's - be a little more gracious in defeat.

I sincerely do appologize for my comments about Stacy Stephens on the "other" board. I know that it was my frustration of other things in the game that caused me to say those remarks. That and the fact that the league that I coach in here in Lubbock will start in a couple of weeks and bad memories from last season't championship game have creeped back into my mind. Stacy Stephens is a great player who will be one of the best in the league when her junior and senior seasons come up. I do not however appologize for what I said about the way Kenya Larkin's sportsmanship. It is obviously just my opinion and you all can take it for nothing for all I care. I was upset yesterday about some things about the game that Tech couldn't necessarily control, but I should have kept my cool and I didn't. It was almost immediately after the game that I started posting and I know that I should have waited to cool down. That being said, I appologize to all ut fans that have taken my comments to heart.

Crud. Just realized once again that Stephens is only a sophomore. And you can tell by yesterday's play that Stephens has definitely become the heart and soul of the Longhorn team. Not often that a sophomore has that distinction.
One funny point from yesterday's game. There was a time when Stephens got fouled and went to the foul line and teammates were coming up and high-fiving. In that process, one of the UT players got a finger in the eye and it made Stephens and another player laugh. Who got a finger in the eye?

It looked like one of the lady horns didn't pick up on her teammates intention to do high fives, didn't raise her palm to meet another, and ended up getting slapped in the face. Thought it was K. White.
It was Asha Hill and it should make the Big XII "blooper" reel!
