One of my staff just told me that she got tickets for me for the 2 sweet 16 games in ABQ. The 450 tickets alloted to Tech when the high rollers in the Red Raider Club, etc.
Course it's in the UNM sections, so I'll have to be good. I figure I can wear my Lobo t-shirt and my Tech cap...cheer loudly for both teams and maybe I'll be safe.
To be frank if UNM wins, that will be ok. I've followed the Lady Lobos almost as long as I've followed the Lady Raiders. I may be wrong, but I think the Lobos are hungrier than the Raiders and that might be the key.
Whatever the case, it should be great games with a great atmosphere.
And I'm looking forward to seeing Beard play!

That is my jealous face. Of all the games in the tournament, I want to see TTU-UNM the most, more than even a possible Notre Dame/Colorado championship who-could-have-picked-that shocker.
Everyone's a Lobo

I'm envious too, Bball Girl! That is going to be a great game...one you can really get into and yell like crazy. I'll be thinking about you. Have a great time and take care.

BBALL girl-some of us plan on a little tailgate by the football stadium-come by if you have a chance. Hoping for a good, close game.

Thanks for the invite.
I want both teams to play their very best and then I'll be very pleased with the outcome no matter who wins.
Geez but some of the Lobo faithful are worked up over Tech not playing UNM anymore. That move was taken as a major putdown (I don't think it was) and Coach Sharp is now "evil"...can't think of a less evil person...stubborn yet, but not evil. UNM played AZ, La Tech and Texas this year so why should Tech loom so important. You'd think we were UConn or Tenn with many NC's under our belt.
Tech fans have gotten themselves overly riled up at percieved slaps and kids going to other schools like Valek to Purdue, but it was not even close to being this vehement.
As Cisti said in the paper this morning..."we're not anyone, we're just playing to get to final four". We're going to approach this just like any other team...
It seems counterproductive to focus on this percieved slap instead of focusing on what this team has accomplished (and what the fans have done to support this team).
I hope folks can take a deep breath, realize that Tech ain't the evil empire and we can have a great game. Maybe I should borrow some armor and leave my car with the Tech parking sticker/Texas plates at home http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

bball girl, those Lobo fans don't hold grudges do they? When Dave Bliss left NM to come to Baylor, he took a few NM players with him, who didn't want to stay and play for a hothead like Fran Fraschilla. Well, Baylor had to play at New Mexico in the NIT, and the treatment those guys received there at the Pit was inexcusable. A few embarrassed Lobos fans posted their apologies on our boards following the game, because some of the things the fans did were flat out uncalled for. Wear the armour.
That's ashame, because otherwise, the NM fans are very good bball fans.
Sure Marsha is weak for not playing them, when she plays just about everyone else on her non conference schedule, but it doesn't deserve all the pub it has been getting in media outlets all over the region this week.

I wish some things wouldn't be said at games either. I will yell and make a lot of noise at games, get on the refs if I think they made a bad call or aren't being consistyent on both ends of the floor. don't get on a player or coach unless there is dirty play or bad sportsmanship going on. And I'm one that hates trashtalking. Cisti and Marsha will probably get booed by some. There was talk on the Lobo board about some people chamging their minds and not doing that. Unfortunately an article in today's trib with some comments from Cisti have riled some people again. And Marsha says her reasons for not keeping the series going are personal and she will keep them to herself. Repeated that in this morning's paper. Maybe there is some bad blood I'm not aware of between the coaches??? There are players on each team that have played a lot of summer ball together and are good friends. Probably sometime during the recruiting process Cisti and Jordan Adams became friends. Jolee Ayers had some nice comments in a couple articles I saw. Why can't the fans show the sportsmanship that the players seem to have for each other. And to say they hate someone because of a state or a school seems very absurd to me. I've met and talked to a lot of nice people that have followed their schools here or when I've gone to road games. But every school also has those fans that I wish there weren't.

I'll tell you why Lobo fans are still not over the whole Dave Bliss thing.
Four seasons after Bliss left:
Overall record: 65-59
NCAA appearances: 0
Four seasons before Bliss left:
Overall record: 102-30
NCAA appearances: 4
Although I blame UNM AD Rudy Davalos for making some bad hiring decisions.

Our teams are often far better at leaving things on the court than many of the fans are.
It isn't just UNM that goes nuts over things like this. I was at Ole Miss when Peyton Manning chose Tenn instead and he had committed high treason, received death threats, etc. Tech's done their share..
What's sad is that all this stuff can put so much pressure on a team, that they can get tight. It's serving to rile up Tech squad and the fans. Besides shooting, sometimes Tech has played without enough emotion (SMS)...so all this furor is serving to fan the emotion for both teamS and frankly when Pierson gets mad, she's even harder to stop.
This is UNM's chance to shine and I'd hate for nasty people to spoil that for this team.
I know it's going to be loud and crazy and that's great. I think the NM faithful may be suprised at the number of Tech fans in attendance, it's going to be far larger than they realize. Lots of Tech fans got tickets last week in anticipation.
Should be fun..

This whole Cisti-hate thing is so stupid! Don't they have something like 5 Texas girls on their team? Apparently the stream is supposed to flow only one way.

Cisti shot off her mouth in the Trib yesterday...(see the Cisti article I posted) and ended by saying she didn't even like ABQ.
Mandi Moore (pg for UNM) however played AAU with Nat, Casey, and Jolee and those gals are looking forward to a homecoming.

Should be interesting. Several girls from Texas have played for the Lobo women's team, several this year-as well as players from other sports. I do think it's stupid. One thing I do disagree with that Sharp said is that the Albuquerque papers were rude to Cisti. Mike Hall of the Journal has always supported her and has done a few nice stories. The other paper pretty much gets on Flan for not getting her. If someone can show something from an Albuquerque paper that shows they mistreated her, I'd like to see it.

It's kind of ironic that Cisti's playing time might be limited due to her back condition. I think its just a difference in perception, Coach Sharp might think the articles were unfair and the N.M. fans and media I'm sure think they were fine, I don't have a problem with either side. What is not perception is the way Cisti was treated at the game last year, that was uncalled for and I don't blame her for having a chip on her shoulder about this game.

I'll pull the gloves off on this one. I don't hope for a close game, I hope Tech destroys UNM and leaves them crying in their seats. They have chosen to make this personal and their attacks on Cisti and Marsha will not be forgotten. Tech does not own UNM a series. They are lucky we played them as long as we did. Marsha wants to schedule more games like La Tech and Duke instead. I agree with her strategy. There are some great UNM fans, but as a whole they are renowned throughout the SW USA as incredibly rude fans. I hope we walk in there mad and take it to them early and often.

Cisti Greenwalt is running smack on somebody? Based on her performance this year, she really needs to keep her mouth shut and rebound once in awhile.
This who shot John will only come back to haunt her.

Chipper...agree. I think Coach Sharp had quite the chat with Miss Cisti after telling the media that Cisti would not be available for one on one interviews. Frankly, I expected Miss Cisti to spend the game on the bench...she had a couple of baskets, a couple of rebounds and then 4 fouls. Twas not an impressive performance.

Bballgirl-was hoping you might stop bu our tailgate. We were out there till about 6 then started to go in. Had some enchiladas and chiliburgers. I will say I am one that DID NOT boo Cisti or Sharp. Even Flan after the game said he wish the fans wouldn't boo Cisti, either. What a difference for us with Jordan on the bench for the last nine minutes of the half. Hurt a lot.

Yeah, I wanted to come, but Mom's with me and she wanted to go to the Tech party.
I think Flanagan made a mistake in putting Jordan on the bench with 2 fouls. She's a smart enough player to handle that situation. Without her on the court, UNM really struggled...if she'd been in there the game might have been much closer. As far as I'm concerned she is one of the most under recognized post players around...I know she was a pre-season AA..but she can hurt you in so many ways. The fans in front of me started chuckling every time she'd get open on the perimeter, I would gasp. She had some great blocks on Pierson.
I did feel bad for UNM...they had such sad looks on their faces, it's the end for Jordan and the other seniors, but what a legacy they've left.

Well I sure didn't! After the NM fans booing Cisti, Marsha, the Court Jesters, the Tech Cheerleaders, etc... I'm glad Tech beat the living crap out of them.
GO BIG 12.....2 teams in the final 4 please!

Some of the fans were jerks. But the Lady Lobos were pure class all the way.

Forgot to say...some of the Tech fans are jerks too...now they are bagging on the whole state of NM on Raider Power..that's really classy too. They forget that this is a game played by college students, not a life or death situation.
Having said that, I went to the game planning to try to keep my mouth shut as much as possible. However, when our wonderful girls came out during the Georgia/Duke game and the boos started, I got so mad I was shaking. There went the keeping my mouth shut vow. I did however contain myself most of the game.
My favorite moment came when a man behind me yelled Texas sucks! I turned around and said we're not Texas! He seemed a bit stunned. I also told the guy behind me that if he booed everytime Tech touched the ball and made a play, it was going to be a very long night of booing and he might want to concentrate on cheering for his team.
So now the question of the hour on the Lobo board is are you going to the game and who are you going to yell for..Duke seems to be the overwhelming answer, however since UNM loudly pulled for Georgia, this could be interesting..
Well if playing in front of a hostile crowd helps this team find the mentality to take care of business like they did on Saturday, then let them yell for Duke.
But I hope they come and show their support for WBB (I think they have another regional in 2006) and I think they will.
