hmmmm...force OU into a half court game...make the shots you're supposed to in your offensive half court...play fundamental defense against OU...and get a couple of calls from the zebras... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

This certainly OU's best year to make a real statement and get past the Sweet 16. Best enjoy it while you can.

Two words... Roz Ross... That girl is tough. The shots were falling for her. Baylor just couldn't contain her. I kept telling my wife that someone was going to put together a run. Unfortunately, it was OU. The run at the end of the game was the difference. I was surprised that Dales had 13 points and I really thought Ross had more than 24.

The officials stunk as usual. IMO they called badly against OU in the first half and badly against BU in the second half. It did not affect the outcome however. I guess refs will always be a pet peave of mine. One minute they let them play hard and then the next, the whistles go to blowing. My biggest complaint is the "out of postion to make the call" ref....Next, the X-ray vision call and then the Anticipation call.

Wow, Coach Coale needs to stick with the little black skirt she wore this afternoon. The pants in your post could make the Blackwell list. I overheard fans around me yelling for the ref to watch the game and not the coach. She is a very good coach and an attractive lady.

Swok34, it was a pleasure meeting you this afternoon. You should be proud of your team.

Next time! Go Lady http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/bu.gif

I was thinking the same thing. Coale's a knockout, isn't she? Needs to bury the snakeskin pants, though.

Do Mulk and Coale put on a show or what? For a while I didn't know if I was suppose to be watching the game on the floor or the sidelines. Those two coaches work the refs about as well as anybody I know outside of Geno!

Anyhow, what a game. I really thought halfway through the second half that OU was done for. I really thought we were going to lose. OU was getting obliterated on the boards for a while giving Baylor too many second chance points. And Lambert was too quick for anybody, I mean anybody. She would hesitate, blow past the defender - and she didn't need to get a layup. All she needed was the open 10 to 12 footer and she was sinking everyone of them. Lambert will be a phenomenal WNBA player. Agree with announcer, if Lambert can produce more from the 3-point line, she will be awesome in the pros.

Ross, Ross, Ross! What can you say. I would like to have a tape of the discussion Coale had with the players at the 8-minute media timeout in the second half. OU just came out and said, thanks, but we'll take over from here. Ross nailed two 3s, and you could just tell from the body language on both sides that this was OU's game. It seemed to affect Baylor on the offensive end as well. All of a sudden they weren't clicking as well.

OU rode the shoulders of the Big Four: Dales, Caufield, Hill, and Ross. They accounted for all OU points but 1. KLEENEX really should consider sponsoring senior night in Norman. I think the fans won't let our seniors graduate - we'll miss them too much. At least we have Hill back next year!

Big, Big, Big win. Anytime you get road wins, it's just fantastic. Sooners now have 11 straight road victories in the Big 12 dating back to the 1999-2000 season! Is that amazing or what?

Next up is at Iowa State on Tuesday. Eeeesh. Will the Cyclones be mad or what?

I don't know what is happening to the Cyclones. I thought they would take it out on A&M today. I just hope it is a good game.

oh ye sooner fans of little faith.........I never lost faith and had to remind a few of those around me of the offensive firepower of OU. One thing OU has that has caused some teams to faulter this year is "end-game mentality" and this group of the primary 6 has that.....last year it was Stacey that took over in these kind of times...this year it seems to be Laneisha or Roz...
I cannot say enough about Rosalind Ross's performance in the last 6 minutes of this game. She was the true star, and the spark that refused to lose.....she brought her 'tude. Thank you, Roz.......

I heard on the bus (even though none of us had official stats)...
that Crockrum was held to 4 points in the second half. Caton Hill was her incredible, tough, rebounding self and didn't do much sitting on the bench, if any.

Zo, so very nice to have met you and your wife.....Baylor and Kim
Mulkey-Robertson are going to bring a whole lot of things to the Big XII in the years to come.

The OU/Baylor matchup is always such fun to watch, and it doesn't matter where they play...Norman or Waco...I plan to attend each game every year. I love Waco's arena, though next year, I think I may try to get my own ticket in SEPTEMBER....
I think we ended up with general admission seats that are typically given away to Baylor faculty and staff........ http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
and I really hate that behind the basket near the top of the ceiling kind of view.

I say fly the team on up to Ames from Waco, let 'em rest Sunday, practice Monday and beat Iowa State on Tuesday.

Coale commented on this after the game. She said there's virtually no time to practice on the court between these two games. Therefore, 95% of the preparation for the game against Iowa State will be mental before Tuesday.

It seemed like for much of the game that Baylor really had the inside-outside thing figured out, as Crockrom and Lambert were just killing us - especially Lambert.

As the game wore on, though, it seemed as if Baylor was having a harder and harder time getting the ball inside (where Crockrom seemed almost automatic once she had the ball) and instead started relying on penetration past the defense by Lambert more and more.

And for about 15 minutes, we were just dying with that strategy. Lambert was hitting popup jumpers to the side of the lane like nobody's business, and OU was getting far enough behind that it was really getting worrisome.

After a while I think Baylor started to rely on Sheila a little to much. Like so often happens, when you go to the hot player too often late in the game, that player tires, and the FG percentage goes down.

And was it just me, but it sure seemed like OU changed defensive responsibilities to put LaNeishea on Lambert late in the game. Thank you! Caufield really was the difference-maker today, with her late clutch shooting (along with Roz) and her steal- and play-making abilities.

One thing I really noticed late was how hard our ladies were hustling out on the floor. You just got the feeling that there was more desire on OU's part. One particular play, where Stacey Dales almost stole the ball, fell down, rolled over, got up and sprinted to almost steal the ball again, was nearly worth the price of admission alone. That was another spark for our team, which was huffing and puffing mightily from the effort late. Sometimes I think that Stacey works so hard that she is going to have a heart attack, the way she is breathing so hard.

Anyway, a fine effort by Baylor in spite of losing one of their best players earlier this year. I fully expect them to continue to play fine ball and get a good seed in the NCAA's this year.

And what a wacky conference season so far! Missouri upsets Tech today? And ISU loses to A&M, with their RPI rating of #210? You've got to be kidding me! And coupled with the solid 4-0 start by the Longhorns and the sensational sprint by KSU, we are going to see surprising things in the conference this year.

I still think OU is in the catbird seat, but won't be shocked if they lose at Manhattan, considering how the crowd will be and the home court disadvantage. I very easily could be wrong on this, but it seems likely to me that KSU will stumble at least twice the rest of the way due to the young and inexperienced squad they are putting on the floor. Maybe one of those losses will be to Colorado, a team due for some good fortune, considering how tough their opening schedule has been. They are certainly better than their record so far.

Anyway, it's been a fun day for Big 12 sports in general, and a very rewarding one for Oklahoma fans in particular.

Besides that, my puny Hoopla standing may have just taken a dramatic turn for the better. Life is good!

Forty minutes---it's the absolute perfect amount of time for all the bad calls, missed shots, made shots, hustle points, rebounds, heart and soul to produce a great game and determine the winner.

Baylor jumped off 7-2; then here storms OU. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ou.gif fast breaks led them to an 18-11 lead. Dang, back comes the Lady Bears, with balanced scoring, and some intiguing calls to lead by 6 at the half. OU wasn't or couldn't score in the paint except lay-ups off fast breaks, also getting out rebounded.

Second half was alot the same as each time OU would scratch to 2-3, Lambert, Danielle, or Fox would push the lead to 5-7. Even yet, the been there before experience showed in the eyes of the Sooners. Even when Baylor was up by 8, with about 8 min's to go, they eyes of both teams looked different. Sooners were hard, determined and confident--Bears were wide, a bit shocked and concerned or even apprehensive.

Then as has happened so many times, the knockdown threes from Ross began, and back to back. Then Ross steals the ball, just takes over the dribble from Lambert, and passes up to Dales for a lay-up. Hill hits a three and Caulfied scores and makes a few free throws.

The looks on the eyes and faces of the players stayed the same for the last 8 minutes. Sooners senior experience and confidence was just too much for the Lady Bears, and deep down, I think the Lady Bears knew it and feared it also.

However, Lady Bears, IMO, have a great coach, fans, players and system. They will get better from this experience and start to win more of these kinds of games.

Let the "wars" of the Big 12 continue and then let's kick it up a notch in the tournament.!!!!!!!!!

Great win for http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ou.gif on the road against a very good team.

Did you notice that Oak Farms Dairy had shirts printed that said "got mulk?". I noticed a six month old infant with one of them on. That is great.

My wife is not a basketball fan like I am, but she would go to the games with me just to watch Sonja Hogg put on a show. Now she has coach Kim to watch. She asked me yesterday, "whats a run?". Coale certainly is good....but coach MULK not only puts on a show, she wooorks the refs. I think she is the best, Geno included.

Wow!!! What a great game, terrific coaching, players playing with passion. You guys in the Big 12 are really lucky. My UConn team plays in the Big Least, yuk.

Here's a smile for you Sooner fans. This quote was my local CT newpaper (today)...
"(Oklahoma coach) Sheri Coale calls me (Auriemma) from Oklahoma and says 'You can go on your Big East vacation now, while we go to work' ... you're not playing anybody." Sad, but true.

For us fans, it's great to have a good team, but it's better to have great games like yesterday's OU/BU game.

Both teams, Congrats!

ps is it spelled Sheri or Sherri? I've seen it in print both ways.
