Bears win, 85-62. Actually, we will host the Fresno St-Oregon St.
winner on Wednesday night. Musch better effort tonight. Great defense, including 16 steals, and actually shot over 50% !!!!
Two random thoughts-
1. The Arizona State coach was giving Sherri a run for her money in the short skirt category. Not that I'm complaining!!
2. ASU starting point guard was from Ames, and was a blonde no less. I thought it was against Iowa state law to let those play for anyone but the Cyclones.
Go Bears! Go Tigers. Let's do the Big 12 proud!!!

I believe she is a neighbor of Bill Fennelly's too. She wanted to go away to college.

Again it was the Stephanie and Sophia show, with stronger contributions from the supporting cast. Dionne Brown played well. Much better overall game by the Lady Bears.
Arizona State didn't match Baylor's quickness or athletism. Lady Bears never let the Sun Devils make a run.
Crowd numbers looked about the same as first round game. I'm guessing somewhere around 3,500 but haven't seen actual attendance. Update....attendance listed as 2,438. Seems low. We need to pick up the pace or Baylor will become less attractive as host team.

Kylan Loney is the name of ASU's point guard from Ames. Her dad was a football coach, I think the OC or DC for that wife beater McCartney. Looney's dad is now with the Vikings.

I don't think we need to sweat it, Yemen Bear. We had the highest average attendance of the 32 WNIT teams going in, and the first round attendance figures were nowhere close to ours.
I've been to enough games at the Ferrell Center to know a crowd of 2400 when I see it. There was a lot more than that there. More like 4,000+ and many BU fans on baylorfans.com agreed that the count was way low. Whoever was counting tickets today must have been using an illegal substance.

Kylan Loney grew up wanting to play for the Cyclones but Fennelly (yes her neighbor) told everybody that she wasn't a good enough shooter to play for the Cyclones. Well her dad being the offensive coord. got wind of this. So Kylan, being 3rd on the recruiting deep chart, was finally approached by Fennelly because his first top two recruits said no, she in turn said no. As far as I'm concerned it was the right thing to do.
That is the way Fennelly recruits and that is why he can't get any of the State's top recruits. He doesn't recruit them very hard and then all of sudden thinks they would just love to be a Cyclone in the mean time the other recruiters have a leg up. Or he stops recruiting a kid because he thinks he doesn't have a chance when all along he was still in the running (Stephanie Rich, Wisconsin's leading scorer this year, former Iowa Miss Basketball)
Or he makes them cry in his office when he puts them on the spot during summer camp...you have to decide today or their will not be a scholarship available tomorrow (Ann Cavey, played in the Final Four for SW Missouri State)
Sorry for the rant but it's been bugging me for a long time.

Don't worry over the attendance to much YemenBear. I've checked the attendances of all the other WNIT games played so far and the 2,438 ranks third only to the Baylor/Northern Iowa,s 3,309 and yesterday's Iowa/Marquette game which drew 2,445. Iowa (on the other side of the bracket) had 2,165 in their first round game against St Louis.
Iowa plays Creighton Tuesday night which is an intriging match-up thats sure to draw a more fans because Creighton beat Iowa during the regular season. Who knows maybe Creighton will knock off Iowa again. But as long a Baylor keeps pulling them in like they are you'll be able to see them a few more times this year in the Ferrell Center.

If Creighton shows the moxie and toughness they did in the second half at Siena Saturday, they'll make they could be in the Ferrell Center...playing for all the marbles.
I'd like to see my lasses in Blue battle Baylor.
