I like him. He gives some legitimacy to ESPN's coverage, that they are serious enough about it to assign an experienced person.
I like SDS a lot.
Nell bugs me for some reason.
I always thought Vera Jones was funny.

Much, much, better ESPN. Now, if we can just tie Nell's hands to the desk and get Stacey to relax a breath a bit, I'd say it's the best since Mimi Griffin and Rebecca Lobo. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

DblT81 I think if you don't try to listen to what her hands are saying she might make more sense.

The reason that I get annoyed by Nell Fortner is that she is constantly repeating things that the audience already knows. For example, whenever Vanderbilt is playing she always talks about how good Chantelle Anderson is, but never even mentions Jenni Benningfield. She talks about how great UConn and Tennesee are, but always over looks Texas and LSU. The majority of her comments are simple cliches that even an average fan is aware of. I'll begin to respect Nell more once she starts making a few controversial statements and begins to acknowledge some of the nation's lesser known stars. This is why I like Stacey as a commentator, because she isn't afraid to make bold predictions (i.e. KSU beating UConn) and she makes an effort to talk about players other than Alana Beard and Diana Taurasi.

Cha-ching! I think you have identified why I get so disgusted with some of the ESPN regulars. They just repeat the same old things about the same teams & players. I liked the bit of game coverage I saw today by Swin Cash. She was talking about the current game and the players in it, not talking about other players/teams not in that game. How refreshing!

Yes, I think that is part of it. Saying the not quite so expected. Nell sez look for Augustus and LSU. (of course, they are playing #16 SW Texas, so that is "REALLY" the game of the night, I'd think) Stacey calls an 8/9 matchup the one to watch, Wisconsin-Greenbay/Washington, throwing in a plug for Giuliana Mendiola. Rece tosses in a comment about Stacey vs. Mendiola ~~ as if she had forgotten, cute little aside.
Oh, and do watch Stacey. She does a little hand waving/pointing of her own, usually with the left, as I remember. Nothing to compare to Nell, though.

Over on RaiderPower DB1T81 suggested a fine money raising effort for Tech...get fans to pledge $1.00 everytime Beth Mowins mentions Duke during the Tech/SMS game. If we add another $1.00 for everytime Van Chancelor mentions the SEC during the Tech/SMS game. This could mean some BIG time $$ for the university. Swin Cash did a good job today and didn't I hear Sue Bird doing color on another game..

I also enjoy Swin Cash's commentary. Sue Bird was also working. I don't remember what game she was covering. I think it was a game going as predicted.
After finally getting the information about Full Court, I decided it was to much money for to little and didn't order it. I actually enjoyed the ESPN/ESPN2 coverage yesterday. Although the big upsets didn't materialize, a number of the games were much closer than expected.

Guess I'm just too easy to please, but I love Nell Fortner and Stacey Dales-Schuman, too, hand-waving and all. It did occur to me that some of their remarks may be scripted since they have only a short time to talk and nobody wants them to ramble (too expensive!). The show's producers may have set them up so that Nell will say what everyone is expecting to hear and Stacey will be Devil's Advocate. I don't know. But I'm just so thrilled that we have the games on national tv (I'm an old Baby Boomer) that I'll accept just about anything. And I honestly think that these 3 are doing a great job.
I do miss Robin Roberts and Vera Jones, though. I enjoyed the chemistry that Robin, Vera and Nell had. And there were times when Vera had me rolling on the floor with laughter.
I must confess that I e-mailed ABC and begged them to get Robin out of the war zone. Sure, it was a silly thing to do, but geez, they have plenty of people over there to cover the war. And she only gets about 90 seconds each morning to talk, anyway. And I'm sure that ABC will go ahead and do exactly what they want to do. They probably didn't even read my e-mail since they are probably getting thousands every day...but I did it anyway. So, there!!!

I liked Swin as well, but you better listen fast because she talks as fast as she is on the court. I like the fact that she stays to what is happening on the court in front of her and knows the game.
Sue Bird did the games in GA and was a little quiet at first, also talks fast, but got better as the day went on.
Then, out west, there was Lisa Leslie. Although she is better than she used to be, she is hard to listen to.

Maybe a little biased here but the best analyst ESPN has is Brenda Van Langen. Probably because she is a Big 12 and Nebraska native. She did the Fox analysing for some of the Big 12 games the last couple of years. She did the South Carolina/UT-Chattanooga game with Dave Revsin and will probably do the Penn State/Holy Cross tilt for ESPN today.
Don't know if many fans know or are even interested but she grew up in south-central Nebraska went to Kearney State in Nebraska, became an assistant coach there before being named a assisant coach for Angela Beck at Nebraska in the early 1990's. She worked for the NCAA in Kansas City after that.
Nebraska showed a lot of its games on NETV the first couple years that Paul Sanderford was here. She's started doing the analysing for the NETV network and her career in announcing escalated from there. If I remember right in the off season she sells recruiting software to colleges & universities. She still resides in Kansas City.

Vera Jones started out a little rusty in my opinion today for the UT game, but I love her. She finally remembered it's a JUMP STOP and not a "hop step" after UT performed about a dozen of them. She seem to be looking for a traveling call there for awhile and I was worried about her mental stability.
I do miss Robin, Nell and Vera's chemistry, but I'm just as pleased as punch too that all of this is actually on TV!
I'm just thankful I have the Dish Network with the "alternate" channels (for free). http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
