Today while watching the tournament I keep hearing the annoucers saying that Tennesse has never lost a NCAA tournament game at home. But I think they have I don't remember what year it was. They had the regional at their place and they lost I don't remember if it was a 2nd or 3rd round that they lost. I remember that Pat made the girls be ushers for the regional.
Does anyone else remember this and know what year? For some reason I want to think it was around 1999.

It's hard to remember way back when but the announcers were right.

They lost to Xavier a few years ago, but I don't remember if it was at Thomson-Bolling Arena or not...

they have never lost at their arena during the ncaa's.
i remember them losing to la tech, iowa, & virginia but those were nuetral sites. one being the semi-final of sweet 16 againts la tech, and then the final of the regionional against virginia, and a final againts a regional against iowa. those all occured back in the early 90's. i think one was 1989-90 season.

Is this the first time Tennesse has hosted a regional?

I think what ISUbballfan may be referring to is in 1990 the Final 4 was in Knoxville and Tennessee lost in the regional and therefore didn't get to play in the Final 4 on their own home court.
So...it could be worse, can you imagine having to play the Lady Vols at home in the Final 4? Thank goodness WBB has moved beyond that.

Thank You Bball! I didn't realize that final fours use to be at home sites.
