(#)---seed line before adjustment

Version 1:
The selection committee forces a #1 seed to play on an opponent's home court (LSU to N Mexico). Overall this is an easier bracket to produce and requires fewer seed line adjustments and permits more flexibility in moving teams around from region to region. I put an emphasis on keeping conference teams apart as long as possible, but the committee doesn't usually emphasize this as much as I believe they should. There may teams set up in subregionals that have played each other. I didn't have time to check all of those possibilities. I tried to avoid the obvious ones which required Cincy and N Mexico to flip seeds to keep UT away from N Mexico in Rd 2. The Longhorns could end up a 1 seed, but it would probably result in UT being placed in the Mideast with Tennessee. Some prize!

Baylor could definitely get in. They are right on the cusp. Colo St, Tulane, Mich St, and Charlotte are my last teams in. Colo St played a tough non-conference road schedule, but could be replaced by BYU which made the conference tourney finals and has a virtually identical RPI. Each have 8 top 100 RPI wins. Tulane has a solid RPI (45) and a fair number of top 100 wins (5). Mich St has 3 top 25 wins and 7 top 100 wins. Charlotte won their conference and have 7 top 100 wins. Baylor played in a tough conference, but they only have 3 top 100 wins.

If OU is seeded higher than 10th (possible because I have them as the highest 10 seed with some questionable teams above them), they will probably get pushed back to a 10 or 11 seed because of predetermined site problems. Each seed grouping (1,8,9,16----2,7,10,15----3,6,11,14----4,5,12,13) must have exactly four host sites. Some seed lines must be altered to accomodate this fact. This year, too many host teams tend to fall naturally into the 2 and 7-10 seed range.

Version 2
The committee insists on placing Duke and LSU at neutral sites (Raleigh and Eugene). This requires more seed line adjustments and generally reduces the flexibility of moving teams around to satisfy other bracketing principles.

I vote for version 2. Of course, thats just cause I don't want KSU to have to go to Knoxville and I think we'd match up pretty well with Duke.

Would be surprised if they sent Villanova to Oklahoma for a second straight year.

As for version 2: sure am getting tired of playing UNC. Would be nice playing against some new teams.

Ah.....you're right! N Carolina can't play in Norman.

I'd have to switch them with Miss St. That would also prompt me to switch Ariz w/ S Car, Xavier w/ Wash, and Virginia w/ St. Joseph's.
