Voepel has some interesting comments and the K-State faithful will enjoy her comments about the humble 'Kats. I would have liked to see co-POYs with Ohlde and Wecker..but here's Voepel's take on the FOY issue.
"But as was the case last season, the coaches' selection for freshman of the year is sure to inspire some criticism because it defied the statistics. Baylor's Sophia Young led the Big 12 in rebounding, with 9.5 per game. Among the league's freshmen, she led in scoring (13.4), steals (2.5) and field-goal percentage (56.0).
The award, however, went in a tie to Texas Tech's Erin Grant and Oklahoma's Chelsi Welch. Grant did lead the league in assists, with 6.9 per game.
Last season, Wecker's statistics across the board were better than any other freshman, but Schreiber got the rookie award."
