Tonight was a most touching senior night.

Jody Conradt never tires of telling the fans what a 'nice' group of young women make up this year's team. She told us tonight that she never has and never will coach a nicer group. Considering how long Conradt has been coaching, those are strong words of praise and admiration. The team's seniors, Tai and Alisha, have certainly been important in helping to establish the affectionate and supportive environment that the team evidently provides for each other.

I am sure that this team's character is as important as the players' talent in achieving the Big 12 co-championship or championship, however things turn out.

Some of you may remember that Ilrey Sparks who was an academic counselor to some of the players died in a car accident this winter. The players presented a contribution to the educational benefit fund established for Imani Sparks, Sparks' 3 year old daughter. The players also wrote personal cards to be given to Imani when she is older. Another surprise contribution to the fund was made in Jody Conradt's honor by parents of the players and fans.

Alisha read a letter from former player, Meg Brown, who was diagnosed with Cancer around the fall of 2001. The good news is that Meg reported herself to be cancer free as of December 2002. The letter included a summary of the treatments Meg has been through. What a difficult journey Meg has been on. She is still weak and still undergoing medical treatments.

Edwina Brown was present. She just returned from playing in Israel where she had a pretty good season. She'll practice with the team during the post-season.

Fred Applin introduced the male practice players and told about a sweet gesture made by the young men. At 12:01 a.m. on Valentine's day, the young men knocked on the players' doors with roses.

Good luck Horns in the post season!
