I think Texas vs. Tech is the Best!

What do you all think!

Hi all...i am new to this message board, but i will start by agreeing that Tech - UT is the best rivalry in the conference...yes, i am partial to tech, but what other rivalry will give you two historically great programs battling each other for so long, and two coaches with two totally different styles of class?

Tech and UT does qualify as one of the most long standing--

OU and OSU---Bedlam series and all is also huge

Here were my thoughts on the subject from a post on this board last year (read both of my posts in the thread)
http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000599.html

Guess I must update my schedule from that past ten years:

<pre style="font-size: 8pt"> Year - Reg Season Record - Details
90-91- TT 0 UT 2 – TT gets first victory ever in a 2 point win in SWC Tourney
91-92- TT 1 UT 1 – TT gets first win during regular season and wins in SWC Tourney 76-74
92-93- TT 1 UT 1 – TT gets first win in Austin; Tech also wins in SWC Tourney 78-71;
on 1/20/93 UT wins in Lubbock 76-75, Lady Raiders never lose another game that season,
winning the national championship. UT did not win in Lubbock again until 2001.
93-94- TT 1 UT 1 – UT wins first match 66-65 and also breaks TT win streak at SWC Tourney 71-69
94-95- TT 2 UT 0 – TT gets first 2 win regular season, no matchup in the SWC Tourney
95-96- TT 1 UT 1 – no matchup in SWC Tourney
96-97- TT 1 UT 1 – no matchup in Big 12 Tourney
97-98- TT 2 UT 0 – no matchup in Big 12 Tourney
98-99- TT 1 UT 1 – no matchup in Big 12 Tourney
99-00- TT 2 UT 0 – Perhaps most classic battle yet in double overtime in Austin,
Tech prevails 91-85. UT gets revenge with win in Big 12 Tourney
00-01- TT 1 UT 1 - UT breaks Tech's 41 game home win streak, longest in the nation,
and wins for the first time in Lubbock since '93; Tech gets revenge in Austin
and wins the Big 12 Tourney matchup</pre>

Based on the number of classic, close, buzzer beater games and the close record over the past 11 years, I still say there are none better than this.

http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ut.gif vs http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ttu.gif

*Two great programs (each with a national championship)
*Two legendary coaches
*Not only in the same conference, but in the same STATE!
*Fighting for the same recruits
*Have played at least twice every year for ????? years

The rivalry is, without question, the best in the conference and possibly the best in the nation.

Thanks, dblt...this message board is certainly a breath of fresh air from the espn board...

As for all of those home games against UT, i was at every one during my tenure at tech, remembering especially that loss before our national championship run...i still say that krista kirkland's foul in the closing seconds should have been a no-call that would not have put UT at the free-throw line...ah, memories...

I think I would have to agree that Texas & Texas Tech is the biggest rivalry in the south Big 12. I'm not sure the OU women's bb team has a "huge" rivalry with any Big 12 team.....
ok, maybe if we could beat Iowa State, that sure would be nice.
I think there are some rivalries in the north that I'm not as familiar with......

ISU's only two real conference rivals are Nebraska and Kansas, and neither one is particularly great. Kansas and ISU have a rivalry that's anything but friendly. ISU and Nebraska have had some great games in the past, but right now Nebraska just isn't good enough. Right now, ISU's best rivalry is probably Drake. Iowa State has been so historically awful that there just aren't any well-established rivalries.

Definitely, ISU doesn't have any true great rivalries. But would agree that Kansas probably best qualifies. We hate them and they hate us. Total grudge match every time we play regardless of how good or bad either team is - especially since the arrival of Fennelly when ISU started winning some games against them AND became the first Big 12 team to beat them on their home floor a few years back. Other than that, Iowa would be the only true rival, IMO. They kicked us all over the place for years, but we've won five in a row against them now.
